Having some problems with the server. Am working on it now to find a cause and fix.

Quick diagnostic suggests bad RAM *sigh*

about a hour (maybe 2)ago I couldn't log on to the site at all then after a bit it seemed fine.

but I am running some other programs right now,I figured that was the problem.

Same for me, but that was rougly...15 minutes ago

For the technically inclined, it was the preempt feature of the 2.6 kernel that caused the crash.

I'm going to re-compile the kernel without that, which should hopefully fix the problem. The hosts are looking into the possible memory cause.

Unfortunetly, yes. Don't think I'm going to get much sleep tonight.

Anyways, as per the announcement, the hosts will be replacing the RAM at 3:30AM CST (9:30AM BST) tonight. Downtime is expected at around 30 minutes, probably less.

The key index in the Db has just been fixed.

I was just about to mention that... but couldn't post and by now if you do get an email like the message claim, I take you should have gotten around 500 by now

Don't know if it's related, but lately I've been getting pages in KMC that say "This page cannot be displayed, the server is unavailable," or something of the sort.....

Is this my computer or what, because it doesn't do it anywhere else

There are no server problems as far as I can tell

Then are the ads related to the server?
Because sometimes it wont load and that too says server unavailable

Nope, but it shouldn't affect the forums page at all.

A problem with the database has just been corrected. Everything should be working OK now.

what was THAT? The site went down on me 3 times in the last half hour. It did late last night for a few seconds too.

OK, after about an half hour of database checks. Everything is looking good.

My suspicions are on the hard drive. I'm going to have to look into that a bit more though to confirm.

Yes, I just found out and fixed the problem.

I'm working really hard behind the background with the server hosting people to get the server replaced ASAP.

Everything just decided to not load a few minutes ago, and when it was loading it was going veeery slowly.

I am aware of the problems. They will be gone tomorrow when the hardware is swapped.

I'm going to make a backup of the database, so the forums may go slow for the next 5 mins or so.

I was getting error messages.

But is working faster for me now.

One problem was sorted, then another one arose

The IP addresses used for the DNS server became unroutable. Been working non-stop in the background here to get it back up and running - which means some people may not have been able to access the KMC site if they hadn't used it recently.

Anyway, as far as I know, everything is working perfectly fine now.

i see you had to change the little hampsters in your machine again. Running on that wheel all day must be tough work for those little guys.

Once again, we experienced a server problem. This time with the hard drive....the only thing that wasn't replaced recently.

I'm getting pretty fed up with this, and I think it may be time to find a new server elsewhere. Hopefully within the next few days.

how come only some forums were affected ? are u using different hard drives for the forums ? (what I mean is, I noticed, for ex, only the GDF was not working while some of the other forums were)

More server problems...yippee. I was noticing some weird ones at about 2:30 am CST...whenever I tried to view a thread in certain forums I'd get the database error page, like what Rusky said. Some of them didn't work, others did

The edit function has to acces the database... localy I assume, so if the db address is inputed separatley in more portions of code, it could go cranky... although this is more like a begginer mistake... somth I'd do

The edit problem was because of the redirection used while the DNS changes propergated throughout the Internet. I haven't had a good look at the code yet, so haven't been able to fix.

Anyway the server move may be delayed, as I'm in talks with the technicians at the datacenter to simply replace the hard drive - meaning possibily zero-downtime.
