Batman, just because he rocks. And he has better qualities as a leader. Bats usually likes to be the outkast of the group. He wants to be in control, thats one reason he doesnt like supes.
Arachnoidfreak
Batman is far from righteous. Superman is righteous, Captain America is righteous, Wonder Woman is righteous, Batman is not. He'd be a very good leader though.
Gregory
Batman is very righteous; like all of the JLA, he tries to do what's right, no matter how dire the circumstances, which is what that word means.
I'm not sure that Batman would be that good a leader; I mean, he's a good leader for any given mission, but in the long term, there would be problems. For one thing, a leader should trust the people he's leading, and Batman is relentlessly paranoid, something that got him kicked out of the JLA. For another, a good leader should listen to the ideas of his subordinates, another thing Batman isn't good at. And a leader should pretend to respect the people he's working with, whether he does or not. And a leader should be able to devote himself entirely to the team, something Batman can't do because he's also utterly devoted to his home city And so on and so on.
I nominate the Martian Manhunter. He has all the qualities of a good leader, I believe.
SUPERMANDAMAN
Superman all the way he is a born leader batman isnt even as full on member as the rest and not to mention in kingdom come who was the leader thats right superman.
Alpha Centauri
The thing I do really like about Supes is the excitement factor. The way he seems like he'd fight even if he knew it meant death. Like against Doomsday. The death of him didn't waive his will to fight. Captain America would probably poop himself.
Batman isn't righteous. He has killed before out of revenge or fury. Captain America or Superman would NEVER EVER do that.

As much as I hate to say this,I believe Superman is teh righteous leader of the JL.As Gregory said, Batman is great and all but just not leader material. For one thing, he is a hard core pessimist and that does not help when u are leading.Superman has all the qualities of the rightful leader of JL.
Gregory
No, he hasn't. It's sort of funny that, considering the fact that Batman never killing is a major part of his character--that it's the driving force behind the Knightfall saga--the driving force behind his relationship with the Huntress--that it's completely impossibole to read a lot of Batman comics and be unaware of this, so many people still think that Batman kills. Well, maybe not "funny," but certainly interesting, in a geekish sort of way.
As for Superman "never ever do something like that," I have these weird memories of Superman almost choking Luther to death in Public Enemies. I have even more weird memories of a future Superman who is driven to try to murder both his present incarnation and the Batman. But since Superman would "never ever do something like that," I'm probably just hallucanating those moments. Then again, maybe not.

I'm talking in the sense of like how Wolverine would kill. If you pissed Wolverine off enough, he'd kill you. Superman blatantly wouldn't kill a man for his own gain. He almost killed Luthor, he didn't ACTUALLY kill him. Coz Superman always has the idea that live is well too valuable to waste. I don't believe he'd kill of his own free will and just for himself. I believe if Doomsday was no threat to humanity he'd just tried to subdue him and not kill him.

Oh Superman HAS the tendancy to kill and he does!well in this awesome JL episode 'A Better World' Superman burns Lex Luthor to death and later on leads the future JL to kill the presant JL. As expected the future Batman is the first to realize this is wrong and helps the current JL escape!Loved that episode, the batman vs batman scene was a classic!!!!

Batman is righteous. He is very much so leader material. His very intelligent, uses strategic and appropriate moves to get things done as safe and easy as possible.
punkyhermy
yEAH OFCOURSE HE DOES BUT...he does not connect with his fellow JL members nor does he know how to treat them.
LeAtHerRFace
Yes, norri radd is right.
Batman knows how to cooperate with his fellow jla members if he had the chance to be the leader. As long as bats is in control, he will be one of the greatest leaders.
vu_Quang
yeh, what he said.
Gregory
Batman was a full member last time I checked. Are you thinking of the cartoon?
Shadow_King
i say superman should be the leader because batmans to cool to be the leader thats why hes cool as the outkast of the group.
Arachnoidfreak
You don't pay much attention, do you? It's hard to believe that you are the same person who posts those beautifully well written paragraphs in the Batman RP.
That "future" Superman didn't kill Luthor, he gave him a quick lobotomy, burning off a certain portion of his brain, so Luthor would stop being evil, just like all the other inmates in Arkham Asylum in that episode. Did you notice the little holes in their foreheads? Also, the only reason those JLA members were 'more ruthless' was because Flash had died, and the cartoon portrayed him as the group's conscience, which isn't the case in the comic books.
punkyhermy
OOOOHH DEAR!!!!!!
I just watched that episode long ago...and payed most attention to the batman parts really!(shrugs) i got the whole thing wrong....'superman killed' ..... honestly!!!!!Oh and those holes...yeah no wonder....
Daywalker
Batman is the best by far but he isn't a leader. I wouldn't even call him a leader when he's with the "batfamily" He's more of a thinker/advisor who voluntarily places himself in the shadows.
Superman is the glory boy for the leadership role.
Daywalker
Are you sure he didn't kill Lex in that episode? I don't think they showed him again after that scene in his office. I want to say that he did kill him and that's what started the whole martial law bit. I know he neutered the rest of the villains but I think he offed Lex. If he just lobotomized Lex, I don't think there would have been much impact to the story. I think the shock was that Supes finally killed Lex. I have it on tape and i'll watch it again to be sure.
Arachnoidfreak
I seem to remember seeing Lex's head fall back, and you see two holes there on his forehead.
punkyhermy
u know...that's what i thought as well...like daywalker said, the impact of what supes had done, it was intense i don't think everyone would have behaved that way had supes merely lobotomized Luthor. But then again why else would those holes be there?!
Alpha Centauri
Can we get onto the comics instead of the cartoon please?
Cartoon is out of continuity and mean nothing.
-AC
Daywalker
Well cartoon or comic, it's Superman for all the same reasons but Batman is the best character on the team. How's that?
LeAtHerRFace
Superman is the glory boy just because hes the strongest and he wants to be the leader. Bats doesnt give a rats @$$ if hes the leader or not. Hes always the outkast and the guy that likes to do things on hes own and finishes it. But if bats wanted and was the leader, the jla would do much better. A leader should be someone with a great and strategic mind. Superman can get his glory as being one of the jla and also the strongest, but not being a leader.
Alpha Centauri
"A leader should be someone with a great and strategic mind."
A stable mind also. Batman doesn't have one of those I'm sure.
-AC
norrin radd
stable mind? genius are not stable.
Alpha Centauri
Geniuses are more than capable of being stable minded. Not unflexible minded is what I THINK you were getting at.
-AC
Gregory
A DC editor once called Batman the most sane man in Gotham. I don't know why so many people think he's unstable, but I'm fairly sure they're wrong. In fact, you have to have a stable mind to do the Batman thing; look how poor, unstable Azrael ended up.
