What is the Quadratic Formula?
Agent Elrond
x=(-b(+/-)square root(b^2-4ac))/(2a)
hope that helps, if u can follow it
the (+/-) means "plus or minus"
in words it's "x equals negative b plus or minus the square root of b squared time 4AC all over 2A"
Aurora
E= mc2?
Jedi Priestess
the what?
Discos
AE I think you're wrong
Agent Elrond
how so Discos?
JKozzy
THANK YOU, Agent Elrond. You saved me.
JP - If you teach Algebra next year, you'll run into this bugger
Discos - What's wrong with it?
Agent Elrond
np, it's forever etched in my mind. Learned it back in 8th grade, remembered it since. Glad to help
Silver Stardust
...and why did you need to know that?
Aurora
Wow I am impressed AE!
JKozzy
Doing some review work and I completely forgot it. But Alana's graduated, so Alana can forget this stuff
Silver Stardust
Yeah
...plus I programmed it into my calculator
Agent Elrond
I used to have it in my calc. For some reason, I never put it back in. It's quite simple to input it, except some ppl forget to put () around 2A. Common error
Agent Elrond
what kind of review work?
Silver Stardust
Heh, I'm too lazy to actually remember it...besides which, not like we really used it in Calculus this year...
Agent Elrond
cool, calc. I'll be taking that next year. should be fun, for me
Jedi Priestess
well see now there ya go, I teach Speech/Drama and English
Silver Stardust
Calc is fairly easy, especially if you're good at algebra. By the end of the year you'll be able to solve differential equations in your sleep...
JKozzy
AE - Algebra review book, didnt do so hot in it last year so I'm prepping for next year.
JP - Precisely
Agent Elrond
any stuff with cubic and quartic equations? I'm looking at how you solve them and....
jawdrop
Silver Stardust
trust me, once you get used to them they aren't as nasty as you'd think. I passed the AP test, so apparently I understood what my teacher was teaching...
Agent Elrond
I'm sure that's true. When I got my forumal sheet for pre-calc, I was freaked out by all those equations, now I know almost all them by heart.
Silver Stardust
Ha, I didn't even take pre-calc...jumped right into AP Calc this year
It was kinda scary at first, but we'd spend about a month (at least) on each chapter, so that our teacher made sure that we totally understood everything.
Agent Elrond
Lucky u. If I did good in Math A (first-year high school math, but took in 8th grade b/c I was smart) and Math A/B (second year), I could have taken math B Honors (third year and more advanced than regaular math B). Since I'm a year head, I could have taken Math 12N, the take Calc BC in my senior year, but I'm just taking Calc AB, but that's still good.
Discos
here in Britain we dont have a 4 in ours
RaventheOnly
you need it for when you are dealing with three unknown variables
of course its completely useless for the more advanced problems
RaventheOnly
muhahahaha!!!! AE i thought the AB was going to be a breeze to until you hit Integrals and everything you thought you learned was useless
Tptmanno1
Quadradic formula
*Shudders*
I allways forgot how to use it with factoring and stuff.
Man, Pre-calc's gonna be hard.
Agent Elrond
not unless your lucky and they give you a formula sheet to use
Tptmanno1
*Prays*
I hope so!
§pearhead
Shit, do we have summer review work that we need to do?
JKozzy
Well, YOU do, Mr. I'm-so-cool-and-going-into-PreCalc-next-year
§pearhead
I am?
Tptmanno1
Oh me and spear can suffer together!
RaventheOnly
You are going to wish everything was as easy as the Quadratic formula when you go to pre-cal and calc
Black Onyx
MATH NO!
i failed math every year since 3rd grade
§pearhead
Hell, I forgot how to do division
Oh how I love my calculator
Agent Elrond
Precalc was pretty easy. All we did was expand on everything we already learned, went more in-depth
Tptmanno1
Me too.
my graphing calculator is my friend!
Black Onyx
i never learned
Agent Elrond
what kind do u have? I have a Ti-83+. I use it all the time. Matrices are soo easy with a calc
§pearhead
I've got a TI-86 plus or whatever
I forgot the exact number, tbh
Agent Elrond
I would like to get a TI-89, but I think thier banned on SAT's, I think
RaventheOnly
did you have honors? and then AP Calc this year? our teacher was a mad man that ran us all into the ground
Taylor series and Integrals .....o joy!!
RaventheOnly
there are only Ti - 84s last time i checked guys
§pearhead
Yea, my bad RTO
I've got a TI-83 Plus in my hands right now
Tptmanno1
I've got the TI-83+ silver one Its cool. I have SO many games on there.
Mario is the coolest though!
Black Onyx
jeez geekfest extrodanare
droolio geeks are so sexiee
§pearhead
Geek? No, just oddly good at math, and I owe it all to my calculator
Black Onyx
i hate math cry but i think thats just because my math teacher is a vietnam veteran scarieee
he screams at EVERYONE
RaventheOnly
no... the geeks for me are the ones who leave our manditory study session to watch Yugioh
swear by god we were ready to kill this girl for that
Ti 83 plus here to.
§pearhead
"Yugi oh"
anyone who watches that show should be shot
RaventheOnly
they should and the studio that creates them should be pillage and the creators turned inside out.... but thats just me
Black Onyx
is that that show with the kid tht has that wierd hair
RaventheOnly
Yes... thats why they must all die
§pearhead
Do you have any idea how many card games are out now?
ffs
Black Onyx
my favorite card game 52 pic up throw them everywhere and leave
RaventheOnly
I never played any ever .... i have battle tech cards but that was because i was 9 and the robots locked cool.
i can only imagine how many and that scares me
Agent Elrond
Magic: The Gathering is the only good one.
I once saw a card game for American Idol
§pearhead
lol
the only "card game" i got is some Bazooka Joe thing that came on the back of some old baseball trading cards
Black Onyx
i still have my pokemon cards from when i was 9 somewhere
i should burn them
RaventheOnly
ohhhh ohhh i have basketball and baseball cards from 1990
i'm gonna save those
Agent Elrond
The original ones? Keep them. Fine some 5th grader and sell them to him/her. Burn any new ones. They're not worth the paper they're printed on.
Black Onyx
yea there original
JKozzy
Are you?
§pearhead
No
Algebra 3, CP
Tptmanno1
I think I still have pokemon cards somewhere too. I'm gonna make a profit offa those.
Never paid anything for any of them. Got 'em all from friends and cousins!
JKozzy
And no, I'm just reviewing last year's material, I think only Precalc kids do summer math work
§pearhead
Good
summer reading is bad enough
JKozzy
You're telling me
§pearhead
Indeed, I am
I started "Death of a Salesman", so far, I've discovered the old man is a senile lunatic and the sons are sex-crazed pervs
JKozzy
Mm.. I started the history book, got five pages into it, and lost it
My parents think I'm almost through with it... I love Sparknotes
§pearhead
I figured I ought to read at least one of the books, after that, erm, "botched"
job of reading A Tale of Two Cities
JKozzy
Heh, oh so slightly botched
§pearhead
My parents didn't even know we had to read it
they were telling me at the end of the year that they were surprised I hadn't had to read it in school yet, so me being, the perfect son
tell them, "Oh, it sounds like a good book, I'll read it someday."
JKozzy
My dad said something similar like that..
"That's a good read" only I said that I read it, but didnt understand it at all. Not a lie
§pearhead
Pff
I didn't even open to the first page
that's an all-time low
JKozzy
We all read it in class, unless you didnt even do that
§pearhead
Nope
We did? I do NOT remember that
JKozzy
And Standring was all, wow, this opening paragraph was one sentence, and everyones like wowww
§pearhead
Oh yea, that!
ok, so I didn't read anything on my own
JKozzy
That's better
§pearhead
Whatever pleases you, O Joe
JKozzy
I'm O Joe!
Black Onyx
hey joe where you goin with that gun of yours
Black Onyx
what?
JKozzy
Yeah, that's right.
soundtrack
confused as usual
§pearhead
goddammit, people WILL call you that
JKozzy
So?
§nakehead
Math for people who dont cheat on the resume
JKozzy
The thread reeks of poser
§pearhead
I'll make it known; your name will be O Joe for all time!
JKozzy
Thanks for the new status
Silver Stardust
...wow.
O Joe, that's funny...
I took Algebra when I was in 7th grade, and then again with trigonometry sophomore year
