DC was once the big money maker with Batman and Superman. Now Marvel has taken the crown away from them with X-Men and Spider-Man. Marvel was once the embarassment of Hollywood between 70's-90's and now DC is. DC wants to make Marvel into nothing again so their first big move is to destroy the X-Men franchise in any way they can since Spider-Man is too big for them to handle. However Catwoman has slowed them down for a while. They want to put the finishing touches on defeating Marvel by making another Batman and Superman film. While both still have other side projects like the Fantastic Four and Flash Gordon. We will have to stay tuned for the next 2 years to find out who the final champion will be.
Shadow_King
well i hope Batman and superman dont do better than FF.
Joker1237
You can say that Shadow King, But I want Batman to be better than Spiderman 1, (Which is hard to do) I mean BAtman 89 was great, Batman returns, was a ok movie, But not as good as one, and Batman forever was a bad movie, and Batman and Robin is not even a movie imo. I want Batman to recover from what Batman Forever and Batman and Robin did. Its not a lot to ask, but it is.
Alpha Centauri
Couldn't care less really. If they're all good movies then it doesn't matter surely. The only ones at profit are the fans. As far as end product is concerned.
I hope the Superman movie is decent. Batman movie has already been and gone, another one wasn't that great. Who the hell cares about The Flash? No one.
-AC
TheFilmProphet
I think the Fantastic Four film will do badly for plenty of reasons.
1. Jessica Alba is playing Sue Storm
2. The director of Barbershop is directing it.
3. The budget will be between $80-$100 million compared to an average of $150 million for a comic book film.
4. The film will be released together with Mission Impossible 3.
who?-kid
DC : The first Superman is still the best superhero movie ever in my opinion. But all the Batman movies where painful, to say the least. And I refuse to mention Catwoman.
Marvel : two great Spider-Man movies, two almost as great X-Men movies, one decent Punisher movie, one bad Hulk movie. O yeah, before I forget, a very average Daredevil movie. And the FF movie will probably suck too, I'm afraid.
Shadow_King
only DC movies i liked Bat phantom,Bat 1,Bat returns, SUpes 1,2,4
TheFilmProphet
I also hope that Batman Begins does great but I don't really care that much about another Superman film. You can't expect Batman Begins to do beter than Spider-Man 1 because thats too much to ask for.

Stephen Sommers Adapting Flash Gordon Source: Variety Thursday, August 5, 2004
"The Mummy", "The Mummy Returns", and "Van Helsing" writer/director Stephen Sommers and his producing partner Bob Ducsay have landed the rights to Flash Gordon, and will adapt a feature film based on the iconic comic book superhero for Universal, reports Variety. Sommers is producing the project and may write the film. He has yet to direct a project he hasn't scripted.
Flash Gordon dates back to 1934, when it was created by famed comic strip artist Alex Raymond, and for decades after appeared in movie serials, animated fare, TV shows and a 1980 feature helmed by Mike Hodges ("Croupier"

1. I agree coz she's a terrible actress.
2. Sam Raimi directed The Gift, which sucked. Then did Spider-Man which ruled.
3. I also agree on the budget factor.
4. I don't see what effect this would have.

Joker1237
Well Batman 89 was better than Spiderman 1 imo, But each to his options I guess.
who?-kid
1. don't care
2. doesn't mean much
3. Don't be blinded by the budget. Great movies have been made with little money. And don't forget there are no real big stars in the movie who run away with 20 % of the budget.
4. So, who cares about MI 3 ? Brian De Palma and John Woo didn't

.
SnakeEyes
i did not Batman in 89 at all. Tim Burton is messed up imo. Also Michael Keaton did not fit the role of Batman, or Bruce Wayne. Complete dissapointed
JuggernautFan
marvel also produced the blade trilogy.... which is great, except i havnt seen the third yet. even if they didnt do as well as others with money making, they were great stories.
who?-kid
Blade : damn, I knew I forgot some movies

. Blade was not too bad.
Alpha Centauri
". Don't be blinded by the budget. Great movies have been made with little money. And don't forget there are no real big stars in the movie who run away with 20 % of the budget."
Exactly. Chris Evans isn't gonna want multi millions.
I think that The Film Prophet has a problem with Jessica Alba for reasons other than her acting ability to be honest. Which is BS.
-AC
Nataku8188
The blade movies were EXCELLENT films, although more like underground comic movies because they strayed quite a bit from their roots. Their popularity did have marvel change the character though, which says something about them, doesn't it ?
TheFilmProphet
All I said was Alba is playing Sue Storm then you said she was a terrible actress

Anyway the budget is important because they need as much money as they can get remember having to put the Torch into flames, spaceships in space, Reed stretching, The Thing's costume, Sue's invisibility and shields. This is not cheap and if you want to make it all look convincing its pretty difficult to do with a budget like that.
Spider-Man 2: $210 million
The Hulk: $150 million
Spider-Man: $150 million
Superman: $200 million
Batman Begins: $130 million
X-Men 2: $125 million
Shadow_King
X2 cost so little.

Marvel is supiror to dc
Joker1237
Hey Batman 89 and Batman returns were great movies, and because of these movies, US Bat Fans can enjoy Batman TAS. If these Movies flop I dont think Batman TAS will come true.
TheFilmProphet
Only the future success of DC's and Marvel's films can tell us that.
Lenord
Which Punisher movie are you talking about the first one the new remake? For me the first was better.
TheFilmProphet
The Punisher 2004 was at least a million times better than The Punisher 1990 version.
Alpha Centauri
Well I think if they do it right they can make Alba look really great for the role. I just think she sucks as an actress.
100 million budget (F4 Maximum) isn't bad at all. 50 million of Hulk's 150 was Hulk himself. So it only took 100 to make that. Budget isn't much considering the actors.
-AC
DarkCrawler
5. Julian McMahon is playing Dr. Doom.
No, why couldn't they have Gary Oldman!
TheFilmProphet
I do agree Alba is a terrible actress. It depends how many shots of the more expensive scenes they will shoot.

Forever. Or unless DC heroes can be as interesting and down to earth like Marvel ones. In the comicverse, you have to agree that Marvel has most the best characters around. The interesting world and character of each Marvel heroes is why Marvel is superior to DC in the comic realm.
This transcends to movies as well. The only reason those early Marvel movies sucked was because of low budgetting and poor special effects, unlike today where CGI's and stunt performances are far better than in the early days.
TheFilmProphet
The reason why Marvel movies were terrible back in the days was because Marvel was giving up rights to their characters left and right. Example The Punisher 1990, The Fantastic Four unreleased 1994, and the Captain America films. It wasn't until 1999 that Marvel realized what they had to do.

Jack Black has closed his deal. He will be playing Green Lantern in a film that has been described as a “zany comedy version a la THE MASK.” All rights to the DC comic have been worked out as well, so you can expect to start hearing more about this project in the months ahead. As I understand it, DC Comics tried desperately to dodge this bullet, but ultimately, they don’t have the right to veto something if Warner Bros. really wants to make it happen. This is the problem with the way DC’s deal with their corporate overlords is structured. Their hands are tied. As much as they are aware of the problem with this approach to the material, they just have to sit back and watch it happen along with fans of the character and the rich mythology that has been established over the long run of the various GREEN LANTERN titles.

TheFilmProphet
True. DC takes alot more risks for example just look at Catwoman.

Superman1 and batman2 were great because you couldn't fault the casting, direction and film score but the new crop of marvel movies that i've enjoyed in they're entirity as a viscral form of entertainment are even better as they're more fun and reach people who don't read comics but also appeal to those of us who are blessed too. god bless stan lee.
TheFilmProphet
Marvel films usually reach large amounts of people just look at the Spider-Man and X-Men franchises. Stan Lee is the ENTIRE reason why Marvel is where it is today.
jayson
Stan lee IS the man. What a visionary. when you think that the current crop of writers and artist struggle to produce one comic per month and he was maybe writing 6 you begin to understand the genius of the man.
Alpha Centauri
With all due respect he didn't have to write as deep or thoughtful stories but I do agree with you.
He didn't even create some of the famous characters till he was in his 30s or something. By the time he was my age he was senior writer at Marvel, or editor. Something.
-AC
ScarletSpider
It's not really DC taking the risks with the new DC comic book property movies. In the comic domain, DC controls it's characters completely. Many things outside of that are subject to the control of Warner Bros.
DC isn't taking a risk by casting Jack Black as Green Lantern. They're taking a punch in the face from their corporate big brother, and being forced to aquiesce. I respect Marvel a bit more for sticking in their, clawing their way out of a chapter 11, and keeping full control over all of their characters in every medium. This will allow them to make, for the most part, superior movies, I think. DC simply has too many voices and too many opinions, whereas Marvel represents their characters truly, giving direct input to the movies, and thus they reap the rewards and make money hand over fist.
Both companies are good I think, I'm a big Marvel fan, and I tend to lean more towards their characters and buy more of their books. Many people often credit DC with most of the "firsts" in comics history. However Marvel (as Timely and Atlas) made many of them too. The first character crossover was Marvel's, with a battle between Human Torch and Namor. This was the first step in establishing the comic universes of today.
Alpha Centauri
I mean Marvel is one of the very few most-known companies in any medium, that is actually excellent.
I mean like in sports clothing it's Reebok (At the moment) which suck. You get them in everything, the big ones. The big companies I rarely ever any good at all really. Marvel is the one that does it. Of course there are so many mini companies as I'm sure Arac will agree, that are awesome too.

Joker1237
Batman and Superman first team up in 1957 when they fought Joker and Lex, and there human robots or what ever, What year did Torch and Namor team up?? I was sure Torch came around in the 60's.
Joker1237
Look it up and F4 4 came out in 1961, a good few years after Superman and Batman team up.
TheFilmProphet
Sorry but Torch was around before the Fantastic Four. He came around the 40's.

The original human torch, an android with the ability to control flame came out in 1938. Namor came out around the same time. Their creators were friends and had the idea to overlap the characters, and they appeared in Marvel Mystery Comics #15 together. Which came out in January 1941.

Aquaman Headed to the Big Screen?
Source: FilmJerk
Thursday, August 26, 2004
FilmJerk reports that Aquaman may still be adapted for the big screen...
Sunrise Entertainment heads Alan and Peter Riche, whose credits include the feature film versions of "Starsky and Hutch" and "The Mod Squad," are the newest team to get Aquaman to the big screen. Our source indicates first-time scribe Ben Grant is currently writing the screenplay. However, the source was unable to verify whether the production will be an origin story or one which assumes filmgoers will be familiar with the character. There are no actors signed to any roles at this time.

The first Human Torch wasn't Johnny Storm. It was an android.
The original Human Torch began his existence is 1939 in the laboratory of Professor Phineas T Horton, one of the pioneers in the field of artificial intelligence and robotics. The culmination of Horton's research was an android who mimicked virtually all of the functions of a human being, including independent thought, but was composed entirely of synthetic materials. The one flaw in the android's design concerned the photoelectric solar cells which covered every square inch of his body and served as his power source. The cells were too volatile and caused the epidermis of the android to burst into flame upon contact with air but without harming the android itself.

The only movie I ever really liked was the superman movies with christopher reeves and Batman Forever Marvel's characters tend to be more down to earth and more understandable.
Lately, Marvel movies >>>>> DC movies and are making more money. DC can only counter by remaking Batman and Superman again after so many movies have been made about them.
TheFilmProphet
5 Batman films
5 Superman films
Including the upcoming films.
I can see DC digging for scraps at the bottom of their comic book properties after Batman and Superman. After that it will all be over for DC films.
Marvel however will have enough characters to last them at least 25 years.
DC maybe has 10-15 years at the most.
Marvel will clearly be the winner before its all done.
Shadow_King
true. Warner bros cant find decent writers for any of the other comics of DC. and are just making more movies to crappy sagas.
TheFilmProphet
All they can do now is remake the old franchises and make a few other terrible films like Catwoman and Aquaman.
Shadow_King
most likely the only good movie they would make is JLA.
TheFilmProphet
Yeah that will probably be DC's last move after they try everything else.
Shadow_King
yea. and i cant wait to see ironman movie.
TheFilmProphet
Yeah just as long as the right actor plays him.
GreatMuta
Hasn't Tom Cruise expressed interest in playing Ironman?
Also i think Marvel at least owes DC a nod, afterall DC movies brought the Comic movie blitz to the front with Superman and Batman movies.
We all know that the Marvel movies are the current staple for the industry from what we all know and posted. I am VERY hesitant about the FF movie and wait before we crucify Jessica Alba (she was hot in Honey) this could be a role she really can submerse herself in and actually do it justice......unlikely yes! but still. We can only hope Tom Cruise plays stark....it can only help the movie with his fame....you know producers will give him anything he wants!
TheFilmProphet
Well I think Iron Man already looks great since Alfred Gough has written the film. He has convinced us in the past with Smallville and Spider-Man 2 so I have no doubt he will do it again with Iron Man. Now all they need is Tom Cruise, a great director, and sufficient budget.
