OK heres the problem, I love to draw and i' am really good at it. But the problem is that the only way i can draw good is if i am looking at a picture. Say like a picture of spawn or homer simpson. Though if i draw from imagination then it comes out like crap. So does anyone here have any advice to give me to help with my problem

Have you tried the peeps in the Artwork forum?

crap i forgot

yes, Practice...or do a rough sketch analyze the problem areas and show your rough sketch to others ask their advice or areas of that drawing need improved then practice more...then once you think u have the rough areas fixed then make the final drawing.

try to draw with looking at the picture and add your imagination, for example change colours or background etc. and as much fantasy fantasy as it will be possible wink thumb up

neh..i used to have your problem. just pick a few drawings you made looking at something and try to make them again, until it turns out ok. then slowly..experiment with drawings of your own. you can't really appreciate what talent you have by mere copying

Try turning the picture that you are drawing from upside down and the draw it right side up

That is sum very good advice. That is wat i would say. Coz i also had this problem but im getting better by just drawing it over and over again after copying it once.

I dunno if u have noticed. But if u copy sumthin say at night, try draw it the next day without copying and u'll find that it turns out quite good. Draw it every day and u will be able to draw/sketch much better.

I'd say don't try to hard and sort of meditate on the image or feeling you want put across. Don't get frustrated or mad at yourself. If it's not coming out like you planned, go with it and let your hand guide you. Don't guide your hand. In my case, once you do these exercises long enough, you will develop your own style. At that point it will be alot easier to imitate someone else. If all else fails, keep tracing till your fingers go numb. It really helps when training your hand and your eye. Good luck.

No...I draw from my imagination and I rock!! But i have to listen to music in order to be good.

well you can draw yourself in the mirror but try to add different clothing
and then slowly try to put a different face/hair/body type etc
