not including David Niven from casino royale, as, as i've mentioned elsewhere on these boards, no-one ever does, for a very good reason, every JB has been from a different country: respectively Scotland, Australia, England, Wales & Ireland. So in keeping with tradition, where shall the next Bond actor hark from?
As a kiwi I vote NZ, although I'm not sure of an appropriate contender for such a definitive role, eg Not Russell Crowe. But for that matter, I have trouble seeing anyone in the role, regardless of nationality.
?
yerssot
next one: in the countries you named, minus NZ and Australia
besides who wants to count georgey-boy as a bond
Dirty Vader
I dunno, maybe a guy from the channel islands or Feroe Islands....
yerssot
the Cook-islands too
muntox
i suppose it would be widely considered simply WRONG to cast an american, although i have thought george clooney could make a good one if he can do a british (or scottish*) accent.
*interesting trivia note: ian fleming wanted roger moore to play bond originally but he was busy making the Saint for tv so it went to connery (yay for fate!), and he made such an impression on ian that his later novels stated bond's (previously unconfirmed) nationality as scottish.
yerssot
it's not aboot the accent though
ash007
it has to be British because it has to be
he wouldn't be James Bond without his British charm
yerssot
you DO know that George Lazenby was from Australia, mate?
forumcrew
bottom line hes gotta sound british
yerssot
put please no american dumbass
ash007
indeed no Americains because i dont mean to be rude but it will ruin it
yerssot
that's putting it mildly, double o ash
The Redeemer
I've nothing against anyone being the next Bond...as long as he's Christian Bale...
yerssot
*goes off to change his name to Christian Bale*
I would love to say a few phrases in a bond movie
The Redeemer
I'd just love to shag Lois Chiles.
yerssot
be Bond get the shags for free
Evy_O
why would they ruin it?
The Redeemer
'cause Bond ain't American.
yerssot
he's also not australian, so?

Ello, I am Bond, Apu Bond! Do not steal my twinties or I'll blow your bloody head off. **Meant as a joke** Albert Broccelli only wanted an English gentlemen to play the part of Bond because Bond is English. There can't be anyone else. Lazenby was Australian and he only played the part for one movie. It only did well because Bond fought Blofeld, the head of SPECTRE, played by Telly Salvas. (Forget the spelling of his name). All the actors who played Bond have been English-que since.
Kaleanae
Apu Nahasapemapetilon
Evy_O
Did you make that up?!
he can try British accent, if he's a good actor, nobody will tell the difference
yerssot
erm, evy... your mister "Wolverine" Hugh hid his accent too in X-men, only I've read about a few scenes where he dropped it and Bond simply can't change accents inbetween scenes!
Evy_O
if he's a good actor of course he can yerss
and I didn't notice that about Hough in X-Men
yerssot
you were more focusing on his nose?
Evy_O
not exactly there
yerssot
the hair ? or still the accent
Evy_O
the rest
yerssot
what will convince you to do otherwise?
Evy_O
let me think!!
nothing no2
yerssot
I really don't see him as the next bond
Evy_O
who do you think it'll be then?
yerssot
if Pierce is right about the talks, the only other chose is Clive Owen
Discos
they should go back to a scotsman again, can't go far wrong with a scottish person
Discos - oh shit..*hides location on profile"
yerssot
or get an australian to put on a kilt
Evy_O
scotsmen have a funny accent
yerssot
only connery
Evy_O
and pippin from LotR
yerssot
but we don't talk about that movie, cause it's not Bond related
Kaleanae
Apu's last name? No, that's he's last name
Evy_O
like everything else we talk about is
well, oops, sorry didn't know
yerssot
actually, pretty much everything is on topic
Evy_O
sure it is
I hope no mod visits this place lookaround
yerssot
nope, kes once every blue moon
but lets get the topic back: any english speaking country, minus the USA and to a lesser extend NZ
EllaMarie
Yes - absolutely James Bond should be from the UK. Note that although some of the actors came from outside of England - (e.g., Pierce Brosnan), they can handle a British "accent" even though they hail from Ireland or Scotland or Wales. Please excuse my lack of political geography - but aren't Australia and New Zealand still part of the UK? Anyway - many of the Brits do well at imitating the bland American "accent" also. It's all a matter of training - which I strongly believe the Brits get the best theatrical / artistic training, from the talent I've seen come out of there in the last 25 years.
What did Sean Connery sounded like in the earlier Bond films (I don't recall)???
yerssot
don't worry EM... lots of people here have a lack of that political geography
(when I write England, I almost every time mean Great Brittain or the UK)
if I'm not mistaken, Australia and NZ are part of the Commonwealth, so, they are half and half part of the UK, than again, this is guessing
Sean sounded rather normal at the start, the "sh" sound like in Indiana Jones ("I'm shorry 'bout your head"
came on later, more in Never Say Never Again, but that movie doesn't count
Evy_O
Sean Connery's accent was class
Even though not exactly british
yerssot
at first it was shon
EllaMarie
I read recently that the James Bond character was "born" somewhere in Scotland - but raised in England... I thik most Scots can do a Brit accent or Irish or vice versa - actors, that is...
"Whoever" it is - would work with a dialect coach likely (if necessary) - many an American had to be "trained" to be "English" - like Gywneth Paltrow and Renee Zelwegger (bridget jones' diary) - not sure how WELL they sounded, but anyway...
I''m obviously from North America - and I believe the actor to play James Bond MUST must be from the UK. It's key to credibility, I think.
yerssot
not sure about the books, but the guy has scottish roots. You can see that cause he wore a kilt in OHMSS
that brings me to the other thing: Lazenby was australian, so he wasn't UK (though he lived there)
EllaMarie
Ah yes, remember that Australia and New Zealand and even Canada were all once part of the British Commonwealth. (Canada took back certain authority from the Queen - but there's still enough of a connection that we have a "Governer General" representative OF the Queen here in Canada.
I'm not sure of Aus. and NZ's current status - but all of us are included in the "Commonwealth Games" (kinda like the Olympics and the Pan-American Games).
Also, we have a lot of British actors in our Canadian theatres - and have had for longer than the Brits have been prominent in American theatre and movies.
Having noted all that... perhaps a CANADIAN should be JB?
That was only a JOKE!
Evy_O
What's wrong with Canadians?
EllaMarie
It was a joke because I AM CANADIAN - and no that wasn't an ad for Molson Canadian beer - haha!
(that phrase is part of their ad campaign, for those who didn't know)
Are you Canadian, Evy-O???
I think most people don't realize how many actors and comedians are actually Canadian (especially comedians).
I can't fathom any that would suit the James Bond person, however.
Evy_O
No, I'm not Canadian, I'm from Greece
And btw you can call me just Evy, the O shouldn't have been there
Well, how's Canadian accent?
EllaMarie
Actually - I forgot one Canadian actor who is pretty good looking - fits the characteristics except I can't see him being "cold" or an "assassin"
Ever seen the American TV series "JAG"??? The lead character, Harmon Rabb, is Canadian:
Very handsome - but NOT James Bond IMO. I'll try a photo here:
EllaMarie
OOOOOOPS! Wrong picture. Here's the guy from "JAG". The other picture was of him - but not "in context."
His real name is David James Elliott.
Evy_O
no haven't heard of it unfortunately
but he looks cute
EllaMarie
I never know what's being shown in what part of the world. There are non-English / non-North American websites dedicated to "JAG" or David James Elliott (to my surprise) so I thought maybe it was showing "somewhere" in Europe.
yerssot
darn girl, when you said I AM CANADIAN, the word "molson" immediatly popped into mind, you beat me to it
yeah, saw jag.. most of the episodes that is... he's good, but definitly not bond material
EllaMarie
Yerssot, how is it you would be so familiar with "Molson" beer? I thought you only tried Labatt's Blue while in Canada. Do you watch Canadian TV via satellite or something? Most of those commercials run during hockey games, also.
Hmmmmm... imagine James Bond playing hockey "under cover" - that would be a farce!
(or any other sport for that matter)
yerssot
I spent a long time in Canada last summer, and those ads were my fav
together with Blockbuster (the rabbit and the hamster: shake what you momma gave ya)
well, bond has played a lot of sports already going from horseback riding (A view to a Kill) to skiing (OHMSS) etc.
Evy_O
well the skiing he did was amazing
though it wasn't really him, but oh well... I wish I could ski that great
yerssot
yeah, in some movies you can easily see it's a stuntman
Evy_O
yeah, for example in that one with Roger Moore, can't recall which one exactly
yerssot
View to a Kill, when he's driving in the car after May Day, sometimes you can clearly see it's a stuntman
The Redeemer
Just catching on to that one, Y...??? Rog's "later years" were played by stuntmen...
yerssot
yeah, I didn't found Live and let Die and FYEO, so I had to see that one
EllaMarie
Yes, but hockey seems a bit too "rough" - like imagining Bond playing Rugby - although... giving rugby's origin - I could still see it sooner than hockey....
yerssot
for some reason, I don't see Pierce playing rugby
Evy_O
For some reason, I do
yerssot
you just want him in shorts, I ment, Pierce as in Bond
Evy_O
correct for both
yerssot
I don't get it... you want a 50 year old in shorts?
oh and to stay on topic: UK
EllaMarie
Nothing wrong with a 50-year old in shorts if he's got nice legs! ... and not a huge belly hanging over the top of them...
Pierce doesn't have the large belly (thankfully!) - and I have no idea about the legs!
I can think of a lot of women/actresses around age 50 that have great legs - so why not men?
yerssot
well, you can see him in swimmingtrunks in Goldeneye
EllaMarie
Oh that's right! Goldeneye -
He must have looked good there or I would have taken notice of the ugly legs... (I notice legs).
yerssot
you didn't saw much
EllaMarie
I don't have a photographic memory - I'll take your word for it about the swim trunks and the legs...
About the "not seeing much"... are you eluding to something else besides the legs???
yerssot
I wouldn't dare implying such nasty thoughts
Evy_O
you can also see his bare chest in the start of DAD, not bad, not bad at all
you notice legs?
yerssot
you can see that of course in GE
damn those hairy british guys ... as Bond said in You only Live Twice:
"Japanese saying is bird never makes tree in empty tree"
Evy_O
actually not all british guy are hairy
they mostly are not me thinks
yeah, said that to tanaka
yerssot
how do you know that exactly?
you got that one right babe
Evy_O
I've been spying
and I'm always right
yerssot
so... since he HAS to have hair (see YOLT), he HAS to be british huh
EllaMarie
What? Nobody wants a bald James Bond?
yerssot
I ment on the chest
EllaMarie
Okay, definitely good to be "bald" there, IMO.
Even better to be "bald" on the back+shoulders too!!!
yerssot
but Bond isn't
EllaMarie
Chest hair is fine - back and shoulders would turn off a lot of people if shown onscreen.
Bond just had chest hair - right? AP had to have the "waxed off" for the Highlander role (or so I've read). He looks pretty dark - and those eyebrows.... there's no way AP could be naturally hair-less!
yerssot
than bring in the wood
Evy_O
hey, chest hair is fun, I demand a hairy bond
yerssot
My name is Bond, Hairy Bond... not the same ring
Evy_O
well, at least it's two syllables
G.P
James Bond will be French. And he'll talk about cheese with a big grin and an outrageous accent. No doubt.
yerssot
I actually found a site where they had it in french GP, but can't find it
G.P
For the sake of all of us, you'd better not find it again.
Evy_O
omg that would be hilarious
yerssot
seriously GP, I was hoping you could help; tried to locate it but can't
The Redeemer
Lana Wood?
yerssot
Woody
The Redeemer
But she was PLENTY!
EllaMarie
WHAT???
The Redeemer
Lana Wood = Plenty O'Toole = DAF = wooden actress = the WOOD reference!!!
yerssot
*best Moore accent*
of course she was
(I HATE it when he says to a girl "of course you are"
EllaMarie
Funny, I heard Connery with the rrrrrrolled "r" in "course."
yerssot
that would have been
"of courrrrsh she wash"
EllaMarie
Leave out the "h" - and Yes, that's it.
yerssot
but... but... connery! the 'sh'!
EllaMarie
Hey!
It was MY imagination!
You don't have to be exact when it's not even real.
yerssot
but Bond is real!
The Redeemer
Of courshhh he ishhh!!!!!!
EllaMarie
Okay, okay, OKAY! That's just TOO much SPIT all over the place!
EllaMarie
yerssot, do I have to gang up on you with Evy??
chair
yerssot
would you?
but there's a line already
Evy_O
I second that notion
But what about *ahem* the topic here!
*reads up*
JB's nationality
yerssot
see, Yerss gets away in the nick of time
true Bond style, so I suggest he'll be ... belgian
EllaMarie
Canadian, eh? canadian
What a stupid smiley for Canadian! It just perpetuates the American idea that we all live in igloos!!! rolleyes1
yerssot
Canadian??
I can't imagine Bond saying:
"Sir, what is all this comotion aboot?"
EllaMarie
"Aboot?" That's the SCOT'S way of saying it - what are you -er - drinking?
And FYI - the "eh" tacked onto most expressions is prevalent in EASTERN Canada - not in the west. But, it does make for good humour depending on the comedian/actor. (SCTV)
EllaMarie
South Park is NOT Canadian. Just crass.
"Kids in the Hall" (Canadian) is SUPERIOR to South Park"
The Redeemer
Belgians don't drink! They're like us Irish...never touch a drop...it's all only a myth...drunken Paddies...now like i wus sayin'...wot wus tat?!? *hic*...
yerssot
it's a myth? oh dear, I'm doing it totally wrong than
EllaMarie
Thanks for the good laugh, TR!
The Redeemer
Take another swig of that expensive Stella, Y...
The Redeemer
A good laugh??? What the f***?
Every post I've done is OT and very cutting edge...some people!!!
EllaMarie
HEY! Don't get mad at me!!! I was giving you a compliment for having clever commentary!!!
(*raises right eyebrow and starts tapping index finger*)
yerssot
you're not taken seriously ... see, that's why Bond can't be Irish anymore
The Redeemer
He was always SCOTTISH...including his Rotten Mouton Rotschild...
EllaMarie
And Canadians are too literal?
Okay, don't paint us all with the same brush.
That goes for the Irish too.
And the English...
And,..... okay, nevermind. G'night.
yerssot
but he liked the kaviar russian
Evy_O
don't fight people
The Redeemer
BTW - whoever takes a Paddy seriously??? Don't forget the kittens...
yerssot
that's not fighting silly
The Redeemer
Hey Evy, this ain't fightin'...just good honest banter...I've seen enough fightin' NORTH of where I live and beleive me it ain't something very pretty...THIS is only fun!!!
Hey, how are things coming along with the Olympics?
yerssot
now that was one big offtopic post
EllaMarie
If James Bond was a greek god of mythology... wouldn't that be a twist!
Just don't make him look like Brad Pitt/Achilles (demi-god)
yerssot
there are already enough people who worship him
Evy_O
It's not fun, fun it is when they start beating each other up
The Olympics will be ready in time
Another project is finished, a big one actually
Dunno the english name though
ok I hope I don't sound very patriotic
cause I'm not
yerssot
evy brought it off topic
Evy_O
no, I just replied to an off topic comment
yerssot
and you brought it even more offtopic, I'm disappointed in you
Evy_O
look who's typing schmoll
yerssot
me, the next Bond, so his nationality should be clear now
yerssot
they mean of course after 2005
Evy_O
ah, NOW it makes sense
