"Wonderland" is out today on DVD. Just curious if anyone else had planned on renting it?

For those not in the know, it's about the 1981 Quadruple homicide at Wonderland Dr. in California, involving adult film star, John Holmes.

It was actually rather disappointing, and really didn't pick up until the last 3/4's of the movie. Val Kilmer was actually pretty decent as a dope fiend, but that wasn't enough for moi.

However, it did include the actual LAPD crime scene footage from the morning of the slayings. It looks like it was shot with a Super 8, so it's kinda TCM-ish, grainy, bad color. BUT, it's rather graphic, which is cool.

Best rating I could offer would be **/**** stars. It's "decent".

BackFire
Not a horror movie, moving.

Donald Kaufman
I got that movie last week, cuz I work at a video store. But I didn't have time to see it. Heard it was decent, but there is the documentary about dude also included in the DVD. It's called "Wad", I heard it is awful.

Cinemaddiction
"Wadd", yeah, as in John Wadd, one of his porn aliases. I started to watch it, then realzied what it was, theeeeen of course took the disc out.

Donald Kaufman
LOL thats the right answer Cineaddiction!!!
Thought U were gonna tell me it was goood!!! (relief)

Evil Dead
Great, great, great, great flick............better than I ever expected. I went in to the movie expecting it to mainly focus on Holmes life up to and including the Wonderland murders. I was wrong. The movie doesn't focus as much on Holmes, although he is the central character, it focuses on the Wonderland murders and the actions that led up to the Wonderland murders. The movie presents the story from all three perspectives........never biasing it's opinion and taking one person's side or the other. It is a must watch dvd...........

The dvd is LOADED........everything you could want in a dvd is here. It even has the actual police crime scene video included, which surprised the hell out of me. I didn't expect them to include the video (which I'd already seen on MSNBC a few times in documentary specials) on the dvd.......you know, with the bodies laying around and all.....but they did, in it's entirety. On the second disc is a full length documentary (about two hours) called "Wadd" about the man himself, John C. Holmes. I thought I knew all there was to know about John Holmes.......but I learned something new from the doc. I never knew he had knowingling participated in unprotected sex in pornographic movies after he had been diagnosed with AIDS.........I must say, I lost any respect for him I once had. His involvement in the Wonderland murders was him protecting himself.......this was just a blatant disregard for other people's lives. Anyway.......go rent the dvd. Great flick.

My comments from my 2/10/04 "Wonderland" thread

so you didn't dig it............okay.........everybody else reading, go rent it.

Cinemaddiction
Hmm, i'd suggest reading up on the movie before renting it. Most kids on here won't know who John Holmes is.

Evil Dead
good point.........

I don't believe knowing who John Holmes is will make the story any better as everything you need to know about him pertaining to the Wonderland murders is given to you in the movie.......still, knowing who John Holmes was and being interested in him will make the movie more enjoyable.

If anybody does not know who John C. Holmes was..........that's fine, there is a great 2 hr documentary on his life included on the Wonderland dvd. Just watch it first. You will know just as much about the man from that documentary as everybody else does............
