I just browed through some sites and I noticed that Goldfinger is after all this time still holding a RECORD!

It's:

MOST SUCCESSFUL SECOND SEQUELS (in other words, number three in a series)

With a Gross of $51,081,062 it made an improvement of 106% because the Predecessor Gross was $24,796,765!




after all these years, still standing there on the table

but it will get swept away by X-men I'm afraid

I'm also fairly certain that, in terms of the number of tickets sold {rather than the gross profit, which is, of course, subject to inflation}, Thunderball is still one of the most successful movies of all time ...

actually, Thunderball is ranked 26th

(Goldfinger is number 40)

considering the targeted audience, it's amazing they still rank that high!

ah, glad we cleared that up... I reckon bond number 22 has a good shot at beating it... if bond 21 is normal again people will go to 22 much easier again

Even so ... I doubt it. Bond mania is nothing at all like it was in the 60's; plus, movies in general just aren't doing as well now as they used to {in terms of the number of tickets sold}. It's all about the money now ...

Huh??? Erm, yerss, the first and only time a JB film has extensively used CGI was in DAD ...

yeah, but it went down after GE with making it too action packed and doing cgi (not much but it was still there)

But - there were CGI in some of the really old films too {like DAF}

yeah, and the blue screen they used was extremely sucky
but they didn't use cgi too much and it was "normal" actionfilled with still stressing the spy-aspect
the pierce ones don't do that

That's sort of sad; it's like the producers just gave up and cheated ...

they chose for the easy money

For all its flaws, DAD still had a lot going for it. It was Bond no. 20, it was a 40th anniversary release, it had Halle Berry in it etc etc etc. IF Bond 21 also stars Pierce {I'm not saying that that would be a bad thing - after all, I like Pierce!} then how can it possibly top that? Unless it starred Sean Connery or something ...

I doubt the "regular" person cared about it being number 20 or it being 40 years old

But I'm sure that the "regular" person cared that the film featured Halle Berry in tight leather !

DAD was, what I would call, another sad chapter in an obviously once cutting edge film series.

And it used the energy to laser blast South Korea and the minefield, like Blofeld blasted military installations around the world in DAF. A total rip-off.

No, someone just forgot about DAF and used the same plot for a modern age idea, imo. DAF was well ahead of its time. But the VR simulator was futuristic somewhat. They need to add to that.

On the DAD DVD, the writers DO admit that they were re-using a storyline from DAF which they didn't think was properly "realised" in the seventies ...

but for only a few seconds

OHMSS is also the worse movie for poor editing. For example when Blofeld and his goons are coming out of the habitant in their ski gear. The lighting was bad, the editing was even worse, and you can definitely see someone was drunk when they did both. *hehe*

the camera work in Dr No wasn't one of the best either though
