whats your favourite?
they are both equal in my opinion but if i had to pick then mine would probably have to be the first one because it is more horror

ragesRemorse
well the first is obvisouly the crown winner, because it is so original, not only in story telling, but in filmaking. The character development is top notch,as is the acting. However, lets get real here, the better of the two on the entertainment department is Aliens. It is just more bang for your buck. The suspense in the movie is just outrageous. It also rivals any other suspense action movie to date. This is just filmaking at it's best here. More aliens that are presented in a dark memorable way. Not to mention the baddast ass marines hollywood can produce on film smile maybe it's just because aliens is my fav film.

MildPossession
My favourite out of all of the films is the first one, Alien, love it.

Lord_Andres
same here, the first one

Cinemaddiction
Funny you say that, because there is no character development. I watched "Alien" yesterday with commentary by Dan O' Bannon and Ridley Scott and he said he didn't feel you needed character development with the Alien on the ship.

I love them both, but "Aliens" was just overall more entertaining.

Mr Zero
chalk and cheese.

Alien was a great haunted house story, Aliens was a great Gung-ho war movie. I prefer haunted house as a rule but Aliens made me sweat more. I always refuse to choose when asked this.

Kontraz
i say alien, because it is obviously more original and creative. Aliens is a great movie as well, and is action packed. Its a rough decision, but in the end alien pulls off the win cuz the alien creature looked so much better (in concept). It had the fiberclass "case" over its head, whereas in aliens it was removed.

Major Knight
i would say that aliens was just better becuase it had the queen alien, way more action, way more dead plp, and just having more aliens makes it worth it. but alien is still a fav to me, i liked it becuase it was way more scary(when i was a kid) darker. but 2 was way more entertaining.

Ghetto Goblin
i kinda liked the second one.

Spitback
Alein

Evil Dead
while I respect Alien and enjoy it very much.......I must go with Aliens on this one.

and to totally mind**** most of you I'm sure........I'm going to have to go with Alien 3 over Alien too. Same dark atmosphere as the first movie........the plot wasn't any better....I just enjoy it more......I enjoy the characters more.

dean7879
alien 3 was more sadder and i hated that they killed newt and hicks off...that pissed me off...no way better than alien but it is still a great watch

BackFire
I enjoyed Alien and Aliens both quite a bit. However, they are completely different types of movies and very hard to logically compare.

Evil Dead
I LOVED the beginning of Alien 3............

I love the fact that they opened the film by completely shooting down the happy ending of Aliens. Basically they're saying, "you know the happy ending at the end of Aliens? If the movie would have been 10 minutes longer this is how it would have turned out".................

that's one reason I love the flick so much.

ragesRemorse
Well any way you look at it, there was infact character development with Ripley's character. I think it was pulled of very subtle and quite well. Nothing epic, but very significant changes. when it comes to sci-fi you dont get much character development period. The best performance of this in a sci-fi flick is probably Kurt russel in soldier. However, the first three Alien movies do have some damn fine growth in their characters.

As for Alien 3. For the lonest time i hated the movie for basically being the same movie as the first. After years of being pulled twords it,i broke down and decided to analyze it positively. It does as Evil says, have great Atmosphere. Not better than the previous, but not worse. though the film did pretty much copy it's roots. I think it did well in staying it's own movie, with the writing and acting.

SlipknoT
Man this is hard, but I'm going with Aliens.

Major Knight
naw i think CD is right man, there was apsolutly no char development. the movie moved to fast with no rest to have any. not like aliens were i believe they slept a little and talk a few times. but in alien when they finally now whats happening its all fast paced and she has no time for anything.

ragesRemorse
that is exactly how her character grows. At first glance ripley is given off as ghost on the crew of strong leaders. Her strength and will is hinted at a few times before the mayhem that ensues. she stays a quiet officer loyal to her duties. then suddenly they are faced with an unknown killing machine. Everyone of the crew is lost except for Dallas. Dallas holds their sanity and resoning together. Ripley shadows this at times, but is still bound to her training. After dallas is killed, she then rises and shows her leadership, though she is frieghtend her strength still shines through. By the end of the movie, Ripley has gone from a quite restrained officer on the ship, to a desperate, feirce woman who is no longer scared of what has preyed on her entire crew.

Cinemaddiction
There's a difference between stepping up and literally being thrown into a position, like Ripley was. She was already a commanding officer on the Nostromo, so whatever she actually overtook, leadership wise, shouldn't have been a surprise to anyone.

The only evolution in Ripley's character would be in "Resurrection", if you ask me.

dean7879
didnt like ressurection at all.

ragesRemorse
How could anyone? Atleast any self respecting alien fan

Cinemaddiction
I do. Jean Pierre Jeunet's cut of the film, contrary to whatever anyone else says, is a more full, defined version. Besides, it's got the most interesting cast and characters, IMO.

ragesRemorse
ok i cant even touch your opinion on the final cut. We are obviously on two different mind sets here that cant be enlightened with any knew knowledge on eigther side. However, you think The cast in Ressurection was the most intersting cast out of all the alien movies? this is somthing i had to jump into no matter how far away our perceptions are from each other.

Cinemaddiction
It's like this.

Ripley's clone, No. 8, is in a moral dilemma. She's 1/2 human and 1/2 Alien, so her allegiance is tested here, as Aliens are headed for Earth on an abandoned ship. Her apparent heartwrenching decisions are what would led itself to being the most actual development we have ever seen in Ripley, given she was just gung ho in the other 3 films.

As for the characters;

Ripley/No. 8, who is 1/2 half human and 1/2 Xenomorph, who in turn carries what could be certain doom for Earth in her hybrid creature.

"Call", easily the most interesting android to date.

Ron Perlman's "Johner" character, who is always fun to watch.

"Vreiss" (Dom Pinion from "Amelie" and "City of Lost Children"wink playing comic relief once again, from his wheelchair.

Michael Wincott as "Elgyn", aka "Top Dollar" from "The Crow". If nothing else, his awesome voice and badass attitude really harken back to that of Corp. Hicks in "Aliens".

Brad Dourif, who thinks he has finally found a way to control the Aliens, when it's apparent he hasn't. I personally think he's great, especially in LOTR.

The "Alien" franchise has always had a back-up cast playing second fiddle to Ripley. I just think that this cast was just as good as that in "Aliens". In addition, I think there was alot more tension in "Resurrection", than there was in "Alien 3" in particular, and quite possibly the original.

Evil Dead
booooo

ressurection was boring........cheesy......and quite cliche'd. I swear at points I thought I was watching Critters 4.

dean7879
i could accept alien 3...any more films after that wouldnt be a good idea

squirty
i liked them both i haven't seen the third i love alien ressurection thumb up alien

SlipknoT
Dont worry, its not your fault

dean7879
saying you like alien ressurection is the same thing as saying u like halloween 5

WindDancer
Two different directors (Ridley Scott and James Cameron) make it hard to decide which one is the best. I love both films. But I'm more sided with the original. That's only because I like Ridley Scott's films more than James Cameron. Not taking anything away from James, is just that Scott is one of my favorite filmakers. Still, both films are classics.

Cinemaddiction
I like "Alien: Resurrection", you like "Rocky 5". We're even.

Personally, Scott and Cameron are even in my book. Both super ingenuitive, and still manage to put out great movies. Although, Ripley has kind of pulled ahead with "Matchstick Men".

dean7879
yes i like rocky 5, its not bad but it shoudnt of been made
ressurection is bad and shoudnt of been made

ragesRemorse
Agreed. any alien movie with Dan Hedeya and Winona ryder in the cast is just destined for shit.

Cinemaddiction
Of course, you proved my point of subjectivity.

tabby999
the first one is superior in my mind, because they have the guys chest blow out. come one, who saw that shit coming? but the second one is good, the thirds not bad, but the 4th.....hmmmmm, no not good even a little

dean7879
agreed

BadKitty
I love the alien series...but if i had to pick from just the 2 aliens has it

eggmayo
its gotta be aliens - unless you saw alien as soon as it came out, it was so taken off it didnt look original any more

TakeshiManganji
You are all fools! Aliens is so much better than Aliens, despite Alien being a truly fantastic film aswell.

Unholy_Cheese
/\ yeah i agree, they were they only great two
