Hey folks, I'm wanting to buy some NIN and I was wondering which album is the best.

I'm usually the one to start threads asking about bands!

I dunno, but would like to know too!

Pretty Hate Machine = very catchy and easy to get into. Good introduction to them.

The Downward Spiral = heavier, more complex, amazing lyrics.

The Fragile = longer (double-disc), more experimental, at times etheral and beautiful. Technically flawless, too.

All three are great in their own way. Everyone has their own particular favorite, mine is The Downward Spiral. So thats what I'd reccomend. It's the most rounded. PHM is too short, TF has a few too many instrumentals.

Don't get any, NIN is horribly over rated. All of their songs have the same basic sound.

Actually, all three of their albums each follow a completely different pattern.

You need to get your ear's checked out

I did last week, they're fine.

Also, they may each have a different pattern, they all have a very similar SOUND. I can always tell a NIN song, but I can never distinguish one from another. They all sound the same to me.

All I know is when I hear a NIN song on the radio, I change the station.

Yeah, it's always humerous to hear that cop out response when they don't have a inteligable or valid argument against what I say, mostly caused by their inability to argue or debate in a reasonable manner.

But I guess you're right, I must have horrible taste in music because I don't like what you like, despite the fact that you have no viable argument for the basis of your opinion.

Untill you produce some kind of actual retort to what I say, I am, by default, more correct then you, because I am backing up what I have to say in some way. You may want to look into doing the same, kid. You may find yourself with some actual credibility, and people may actually care what you have to say.

By pattern I meant the general sound of their albums. All three sound different, as they were created in different ways and circumstances.

Its true, they do have a distinguishable sound, but I can't see how thats a bad thing. You can always tell immediately a Metallica song or a Korn song or a System Of A Down song. Being instantly recognisable is the mark of a band who have created their own style and not followed a generic formula.

As for not being able to tell one song from another, thats simply a case of you not being interested enough in the band to make the distinction, which everyone does with bands they don't like.

Go with Pretty Hate Machine. I liked NIN when I first heard them, and then I heard PHM and I ****in loved them.

I like PHM a whole bunch, but I struggle to comprehend why some people prefer it to TDS, which is technically, musically and lyrically superior.

Why? because it's the original. If you listen to it from the right perspective, you also get that empty feeling when you listen to it, like there is something missing, but it doesn't need to be there...not that that made any sense. that's why i love it more than the others.

nin is a really cool and original band so i say go with the cd that has the song "closer" its a good song. i highly recommend picking one up if you have the mean.

I already have Closer. I DL'ed it a long time ago. And Head Like a Hole.

Well, I took DB's advice and bought the Downward Spiral. Great album.

Specially as Closer is only the fourth best track on their.

personally i think PHM is the best album, having heard all of them

TDS will always be my favorite album, although PHM has my favorite NIN song.
