is it just me or does it seem like that most anime is set in the future

at least all of the ones that ive seen lately or i should say most of my favorites (lol): cowboy bebop/wolfs rain/trigun/outlaw star. but it was funny b/c i was watching some of patlabor:2 (sp) and it was set in the year 2002, it was kinda funny seeing how they thought that year was going to be .

yeah back like in the 50's they thought we would have flying cars and robot maids by now
