MF D00m
Since there's always best rapper threads I decided to make a best or favorite hip-hop album thread. You don't even have to be a fan of the genre, but if you like a particular hip-hop album, post it and explain why you enjoy the album. Or just post what albums you like, whatever you feel like.
A few of my favorites:
MF Doom "Operation: Doomsday"
Count Bass D "Dwight Spitz"
Pip Skid "Friends4Ever"
Quasimoto "The Unseen"
Moves feat. Birdapres "Alleged Legends"
Classics
A Tribe Called Quest "Midnight Marauders"
Common Sense "Resurrection"
Nas "Illmatic"
Park-Like Setting "School Day 2, Garbage Day 4"
Fermented Reptile - "Let's Just Call You "quits""
Ghostface Killah "Ironman"
Farm Fresh "Played Out"
I'll post more later. Those were the first that popped in my mind.
HockeyHorror
my favorites i dunno they change alot, lately i really like, every day i like a different album more
what i've been listening to lately
Ill Bill- Whats Wrong WIth Bill
John Smith- Pinky's Laundromat
Viktor Vaughn- VV2 Venomous Villain 2
i agree with everything on your list for classics except illmatic
i think its a bit overrated but thats my opinion.
i still haven't heard the Fermented Reptile album, Park like setting album and farm fresh.
ill check those out next
MF D00m
Classic:
John Smith "John Smith's Blunderbus (or, In Transit)"
MF D00m
That's cool, but IMO I think Illmatic is the most complete hip-hop album ever.
I'm feeling Pinky's Laundromat the most out of the albums you listed. I hope people will check him out becasue he's a hidden gem. It wont be long before everybody knows about him though. He just started and he's too good to go unnoticed.
If you ever get around to listening to those albums, I think they'll find their way on your classic list. They're really that good. For people who miss the golden age of hip-hop with dope lyrics and fresh beats, check those albums out.

I'm sure there are more...but the 90's were just insane times for me, music wise, and spawned some of the best, honest actual "Hip Hop", before corperate America decided to blur the lines, lumping music with a positive message with the swill produced by the materialistic club music makers.

Paris - the devil made me do it (cant believe i forgot that one)
Gang starr - step in the arena
Cinemaddiction
Man, I haven't heard that since I was a Freshman in High school (1994).
Onyx was more hardcore rap than Hip Hop, though. That was an awesome year for rap in general, expecially with debuts by Dre, Scarface, Nas, Biggie, Snoop, and 2Pac just a year before. Kinda put Hip Hop like Artifacts, KRS-One, Beastie Boys, Bush Babies, Lords of the Underground, Apache, Boogiemonsters, and a bunch of other great acts that never really got a chance to break out, on the backburner.
Guess it's always thrived underground, but when all those acts above were out, there wasn't a need to look elsewhere. Then Hip Hop kind of came back to the forefront in DJ Shadow, Blackalicious, Mos Def, Common, Black Eyed Peas, Jurassic 5, etc..only to get lumped in with guys like Cash Money Millionaires who are nos apparently considered "Hip Hop", which couldn't be furthur from the truth.
Oh well. Thems the breaks.
HockeyHorror
7L and Esoteric- The Soul Purpose

Wolf Dog
A lot of you guys already mentioned some of my favorites but some others that you guys should litsten to is Deltron 3030 witch was a concept album. One of my Top 5 faves is the Cannibal OX album. It is the most darkest hip hop ever. Its almost gothic hip hop. EL-P's dark beats combined with Vast Aire poetic lyrics is just so beautifil together. It might be my favorite but it always switches between thes albums.
My Top 5 (in no particular order)
1.Cannibal Ox
2.Madvilliany
3.The Unseen
4.Third Eye Vision
5. Deltron 3030
HockeyHorror
great list^
but Third Eye Vision better than Deltron 3030? i would disagree on that one.
and Cold Vein is a crazy album by Cannibal Ox. Morgul is overrated sometimes...but Vast is great.
D-Double

llyod banks the hunger for more.

Have any of you guys been to any of your above mentioned favorite artists shows!? I was SO close to going to the Madvilliany release party/show. I am determined to go to at least go to one show before the end of the school year. Hopefully they will have a Quasimoto 2 release party and I'll definitley go!!!
I know this is off topic.
HockeyHorror
my bad
Afro Cheese
No Wolf I've only been to one concert in my lifetime and that was when I was little with my parents and it was classic rock bands like Jefferson Starship and Bad Company. But I plan to go to shows when I'm older.

Favorite Hip Hop Albums
HockeyHorror
which album do you guyz prefer
Company Flow- Funcrusher Plus or Cannibal Ox- Cold Vein
Wolf Dog
They are very different albums. It depends what you are in the mood for. Come to think of it I haven't heard Funcrusher Plus in a while. I'm gonna listen to it right now.
Alpha Centauri
"terrible list my ass"
Yes, terrible list. Anyone that cites Lloyd Banks as one of the greatest albums of all time has no musical perception. You picked all 2pac and Biggie albums when both of them only ever had two that were above par. Then you didn't even pick Eminem at us most un-commercial, you picked his breakthrough album.

I heard Aesop Rock's Daylight track for the first time the other day (i know its old now) and i'm gonna get his album as soon as possible. What a great track, can anyone tell me what the rest of the album is like? Also i want to get Sage Francis "Personal Journals" soon as i've heard good things about him to. Any others i should look for?
Afro Cheese
Labor Days is a great album, you should definitely get it. If by "any others" you mean Aesop Rock albums, I would say Float is my second favorite.
koolruningz
Thanks man. I meant other hip hop albums in general, any opinions are welcome.
Afro Cheese
Eyedea and Abilities- First Born is a good album if you haven't already got it.
hh?
eyedea and abilities are great^
Sage Francis > Aesop Rock
anyone agree or disagree?
koolruningz
Do you mean they are similar?
Afro Cheese
It means Sage is better. I would have to disagree by personal preference, but I haven't heard as much of Sage as I have Aesop.
koolruningz
As long as both are good, i'll have no complaints. Also i have Broken Arrow by Blackalicious (great album), is Nia worth getting?
Afro Cheese
Haven't heard it.
koolruningz
Have you heard "Blazing Arrow"?
Afro Cheese
I haven't heard any Blackalicious albums all the way through yet, just random songs. I like the song "Brain Washers" which is on the Blazing Arrows album though.
hh?
Nia is great too. but i cant say which is better. need to give a better listen to both.
the Gift of Gab album was great too.
koolruningz
Sweet, i'll add that to my list then. Having 2 kids really sucks when you want to buy music for yourself, Im pretty sure my 6yr old boy would rather have the latest Optimus Prime then me get some new sounds.
Afro Cheese
What is Optimus Prime?
koolruningz
Are you serious? Optimus Prime is a Transformer which are toys that first came out in the 80s. I had a few myself (showing my age now), they are still going now and have cartoons, comics and anything else that takes parents money away (i'm on the other side of the coin now and can appreciate how my parents felt). My son loves them and we watch the cartoons together every Saturday morning (at his request of course, ahem). Optimus Prime is probably the most famous of the Transformers.
113
Transformers are awesome...i stil lgot my optimus prime toy......loved that show, and best toys ever made.
Afro Cheese
Ohh.. I thought it was a musical artist in New Zealand or something.
koolruningz
Well you learnt something new today.
