Hey guys I wrote the history of the elves but I was focusing on the Sindar Elves.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Long ago before the rising of the Sun or the Moon, in the far east of Middle-earth, Cuivienen, The Water of Awakening, awoke the first Elves. The Elves awoke under the starlight of the Years of the Trees, on the shores of the Inland Sea of Helcar, beneath the mountains of the Orocarni. The Valar did know anything about their existence, but the spies of Melkor soon discovered about the existence of Elves. Melkor then sent his creatures to watch and harass the Elves. A lot of the ancient Elves were captured and imprisoned in Utummo by Melkor. The tortured Elves are thought to be the origins of the Orcs. The period of time that the Elves were in this terrifying and unprotected state is unknown.

The Valar had discovered about the existence of Elves form Orome, who had heard their singing voices. He had named them Eldar, the People of the Stars, but Elves called themselves Quendi. Concerned for the Elves safety, Valar left Valinor and went to war against the Dark Lord, this was the Battle of Powers. Valar was victorious, and he took Melkor captive and brought him back to Valinor.

After the defeat of Melkor, the Valar debated on the fate of the Elves. It was decided to bring them to the land of Valar. Orome was sent back to Cuivienen to summon the Elves. Orome found that Elves were afraid of Valar and did want to go on the journey. To help the Elves decide, three ambassadors were chosen, Finwe, Elwe, and Ingwe. The three ambassadors traveled to Aman with Orome. Then they arrived there, they were filled with awe by what they saw there.

Most of the followers of Finwe, Elwe and Ingwe set out on the Great Journey across the land of Middle-earth. They were known as the Three Kindreds, the Noldor, the Vanya, and the Teleri. Those who disobeyed the summons were known as Avari, or the unwilling.

Orome lead the people of the Three Kindreds. The Teleri, led by Elwe and his brother Olwe, were the greatest amount. Many of them were uncertain and doubtful. Many of them left the Great Journey and remained in Middle-earth. The most noble of them were known as Nandor, who were lead by Lenwe down the vales of Anduin.

Some of the Teleri Elves decided to leave the journey. They settled east of the Misty Mountains, and became known as Silvan Elves. They lived on ether side of the River. Some lived in the land that would later be know as Lorien, and other’s around the hill of Amon Lanc in the far south of Greenwood the Great. At the time, of when the Silvan Elves were living closely together, that the Silvan Elvish language was created.

As time goes by, the Silvan Elves move further away form one another, and join with other Elves. Because of that the Silvan Elves branch would become extinct. But nonetheless the ancient language survived.

The Silvan Elves of Greenwood the Great would later become known as Mirkwood Elves. In the Second Age Sauron's power grew. The Mirkwood Elves slowly withdrew farther northward. In time Sauron chose to settle within the Forest of Mirkwood itself, built his fortress of Dol Guldur on the hill of Amon Lanc. Sauron brought darkness and shadow to Mirkwood. The King of Mirkwood, Oropher, died in the Battle of the Last Alliance. His son Thranduil became the lord of Mirkwood. It was from Thranduil's underground halls that his son Legolas journeyed at the end of the Third Age, to play a great part in the War of the Ring.

Unlike their cousins in the east, the Lorien Elves remained settled in their land. Amdril was the ruler of Lorien but he was lost in the battles of the Second Age. His son, Amroth, would become the ruler of Lorien. With the power of Sauron growing in Dol many of Lorien Elves fled into the south. Amroth was among them. He was drowned in the Bay of Belfalas. At this time Galadriel and Celeborn became the Lord and Lady of Lorien.

In the Third Age, during the time of the War of the Ring, Sauron’s forces attack both Lorien and Mirkwood. Thanks to the help of Galadriel and her ring, Lorien withstood the tree waves of attack form Dol Guldur. But Thranduil had no ring of power to protect his people, but he was able to drive back the enemy. With the fall of Sauron and the destruction of Dol Guldur, the Mirkwood Elves return to the home land. Yet again the Silvan Elves dwelled in the south of the Wood.

Agent Elrond
Pretty cool, dont' forget about Doriath. Noldorian history is so much more interesting, i think.

seretur
It probobly is, but I wrote this for my kinship. But I am thinking about writing the whole history.

Agent Elrond
do so, it's really good. I wish they "History of ME" for a school subject and you could do a report on elves. That would rock

seretur
eek! That would be great. It would be my favorate subject.

Well if not that, there should atleast put Lord Of The Rings into the cariculim. (sorry for the spelling) big grin

Exabyte
eek! That would be great... I wish we had a subject like that... it's so much more interesting than "real" history

happy Good text, especially because of the details about the Sindar who are rather forgotten in most annals/histories like that... thanks for posting smile

On their council in YT 1000, their opinions seem to be quite splitted - Mandos thinks the elves will awake soon, but nobody knows where or when exactly; they also can't really agree what to do after the elves' awakening, probably a big advantage for Melkor

They awake in YT 1050, I think, and Melkor discovers them 30 Valian years later in 1080... Orome appears in 1085. Those five Valian unprotected years between would equal around fifty of the later years of the Sun, but it seems to be a lot longer in the Silmarillion.
In the following year, Manwe's council decides to protect the elves and wage wars against Melkor, but it takes them another four Valian years to actually start that... in YT 1102, around 220 sun years after the Eldar were first discovered by Melkor, Orome returns to Cuiviénen to take those three ambassadors to Aman.

The Valar, plural big grin Valar are all 14 mightiest Ainur together, not a single person smile one of them alone would be a Vala.

I thought they first didn't want to confused
Orome and especially his horse Nahar with its glowing eyes must indeed have been scary, even more because of this servant of Melkor, the Rider aka Hunter fear

Those Silvan Elves were actually all Nandor, or a later name for them.
The other part of the Nandor, the Laiquendi or Green-elves, were those that later crossed Melkor's Hithaeglir and the Ered Lindon and reached Ossiriand; they also met the Sindar/Eglath there, those that had stayed behind in Beleriand because their leader Elwe disappeared there ^^ Hence nearly all of the Mirkwood elves were Nandor, only their leaders - Oropher and his descendants - and probably some few others were Sindar that had maybe returned to Eastern Middle-earth.

Wasn't Dol Guldur built in the Third Age by Sauron's returning Shadow as he didn't return to Mordor at once?

happy I like the name Amdril... where did you find it? smile I only knew him as "Amdír" or "Malgalad"

Agent Elrond
Exa, don't forget that Melkor drove ou the Valar in Araman. 1 vs 14 how sad sad

umm, don't have much to add. My guess Exa is happy stick out tongue

seretur
WOW! Exa you sure know a lot about Middle-earth. Thanks.

Agent Elrond
she's the LotR-guru, and I'm a guru-in-training. She's got most of the facts in her head, I use internet, lol

seretur
Damn. How long have you been a fan, Exa and Elrond?

Agent Elrond
started around 2001, became a serious fan around Dec 2003/Jan 2004

Thanks, Seretur wink

<ot>
Read the books in 01, became a "fan" in Jan/Feb 02 and a real fanatic half a year after... and reached the zenith around 10 months ago or so no expression

seretur
Not at this moment but I will extend the history to every elve race. Please read my bio and tell me what you think. But remember I wrote for Middle-earth online. Are you going to play that game? It is really good. It is a virtual Middle-earth world and you can go to any place in ME, at least when the expantions come out. You can meat Elrond, and Arwenwinkiss, just not the people from the fellowship.

Here is the link to the MEOMiddle-earth online

Thorondor

If you will play it, but you have to pay an fee, join my guild, we allow men and elves to join. It is called the Elves Alliance. I am heir to the Elves Alliance. (Probobly saw in my sig).

I'm not impressed that you can't be an Eagle =\

Dunno if i'll get it, spose i'll give it a try but dunno if it's gonna be the best one of it's kind, i've been hearing good things about WoW

Agent Elrond

Thorondor

Exabyte
*whispers* am sorry to interrupt... but... what about a new thread about this all... sounds interesting and loads of stuff to discuss... but its at the moment kinda offtopic no expression embarrasment

Agent Elrond
yeah, it is OT. It happens. Could have been worse. To anothere forum and thread!

Exabyte
I guess not, though I really like the idea of the game, but I prefer spending the time I have online in forums or talking ^^

A lot of interesting details in there, good work.
I like the use of the Eldarin languages in all the names and the different stories of Middle-earth connected to Séretur's own, personal story that is still quite independant.

Quite late for the fading Elves in Middle-earth, but yet a logical date

Why did he join so late? Wasn't he there during the rest of the siege of Barad-dûr (started seven years before 3441... so... in 3434?) and the Last Alliance?
Seems reasonable though as I doubt that all the elves that fought in the final battle spent all the past five years there, too laughing out loud

If I'm not totally misunderstanding this paragraph, Taurnil was the father of Séretur and hence son of Angaráto, right? If yes, then this construction is grammatically a little confusing, "his" always refers back to the last subject mentioned, which would in this case be Angaráto and theoretically make Taurnil Séretur's great-grandfather instead of father wink better "Séretur's" instead of "his" ^^

With or without accent?

Interesting to add the half-forgotten Laiquendi to this story, I like this passage. Sad that the Laiquendi disappear so soon in the Silmarillion as most of them die together with their Lord Denethor if I remember correctly erm Tarí's life would be an interesting new topic itself yes

happy Finally a story that doesn't forget Galdor eek! <- one of my favourite characters but he hardly ever appears in any fanfictional texts stick out tongue

Beautiful passage happy reflecting one of the imo main topics of the Silmarillion, adds even more ... historical? memorical? stilistically suiting?... elements to the biography.

Cool name... pretty long though ^^
In names, usually the short element "El-" or "Elen-" (similar to the words for "star"wink replaces the full word "Edhellen" as it's so damn long and with its three syllables kinda draws the attention from the main part of the name, the vengeance big grin

Now... good night cya *leaves*

seretur
THANKS for the feedback. big grin

seretur
I don't mean to bother you Exa but could you help me with the names if the weapons.

Bow:
Alfirenestel “Immortal Hope”
Sword:
Edhellenacharn “Elven vengeance”

I'll tell you the names of my daggers latter, when I find them.

Exabyte
Np, that's what forums are made for big grin

^^... where can I help when you already have the names? big grin
I like Alfirenestel, though it's pretty long happy
Elacharn / Edhellenacharn is also beautiful yes

ladygrim
smile .....

seretur
Thanks. big grin Happy Dance Happy Dance

So should I have Elacharn or Edhellenacharn?

Exabyte
no expression

wink
... depends on what you personally like better smile both are correct.

seretur
What would you recomend? What sounds better for you?

Exabyte
I'm not sure, but for my ears the last syllable of "edhellen" is just a little... too much, as it's - for the meaning of the word - rather unimportant/irrelevant and confusing in such a central position blink I personally like Edhelacharn / Ellacharn a little better as it's easier to speak, but that's just my own opinion smile

ladygrim
smile

seretur
Thanks I think I'll just have Ellacharn.

Kella
My elvish name is Bragocirithiel. That's pretty long if I do say so...so people just call me Brago when i roleplay LOTR. big grin

i hope this was on topic...embarrasment

seretur
I was, more or less, but here staing on topic is kind of hard.

seretur
Hi everybody. Sorry I wasn't posting for sometime I was busy and out on the weekends.

Exa I need your help again. Could you please translate these for me big grin:
Lord
Lady
Heir - Hir (I think)
Marshall
Captain
Warrior
Archer
Swordsmen
Scout
Smith

Exabyte
>>

seretur
Thanks big grin and for the Marshall like a warlord

Exabyte
As a warlord... then I don't know any words that wouldn't be just the same as for "captain" or "lord" in general erm
I don't think the grey elves had such a differenced military~system huh

seretur
Oh erm Well what can come close? If anything
