WindDancer
Whoah! There goes the Big Easy! blink

Nazgulinthedark
new orleans has been sinking for years, and has been though hundreds of hurricanes, i really dont think that ivan is going to destroy new orleans.
my parents lived in new orleans for a long time, and it flooded quite alot when they were there, they just wait for the water on the outside of the leeve to go down, then they pump it out.
new orleans isnt going anywhere.

Maverick2364
Yeah one more hurricane couldnt force the entire city to go under...

botankus
New Orleans has only been in the general vicinity of 33 hurricanes in 133 years, or once every 4 years. They haven't had a direct hit since 1965 with Betsy. Like I said in the other post, Florida and North Carolina are way more susceptible to these storms.

Corran
You say that like it's a bad thing confused

"Long before the Superdome
Where the saints of football play
Lived a city that the damned call home
Hear their hellish rondelet...
New Orleans!
Home of pirates, drunks and whores
New Orleans!
Tacky, overpriced souvenir stores
If you want to go to hell, you should take a trip
To the Sodom and Gomorrah of the Mississip'
New Orleans!
Stinking, rotten, vomiting, vile
New Orleans!
Putrid, brackish, maggotty, foul
New Orleans!
Crummy, lousy, rancid and rank
New Orleans!"

(From The Simpsons: A streetcar named Marge or something like that)

Nazgulinthedark
that makes me feel so proud happy

WindDancer
Speaking of New Orleans....

We are trav'ling in the footsteps
Of those who've gone before
But we'll all be reunited (but if we stand reunited)
On a new and sunlit shore (then a new world is in store)

O when the saints go marching in
When the saints go marching in
O Lord I want to be in that number
When the saints go marching in

And when the sun refuse (begins) to shine
And when the sun refuse (begins) to shine
O Lord I want to be in that number
When the saints go marching in

When the moon turns red with blood
When the moon turns red with blood
O Lord I want to be in that number
When the saints go marching in

On that hallelujah day
On that hallelujah day
O Lord I want to be in that number
When the saints go marching in

O when the trumpet sounds the call
O when the trumpet sounds the call
O Lord I want to be in that number
When the saints go marching in

Some say this world of trouble
Is the only one we need
But I'm waiting for that morning
When the new world is revealed

When the revelation (revolution) comes
When the revelation (revolution) comes
O Lord I want to be in that number
When the saints go marching in

When the rich go out and work
When the rich go out and work
O Lord I want to be in that number
When the saints go marching in

When the air is pure and clean
When the air is pure and clean
O Lord I want to be in that number
When the saints go marching in

When we all have food to eat
When we all have food to eat
O Lord I want to be in that number
When the saints go marching in

When our leaders learn to cry
When our leaders learn to cry
O Lord I want to be in that number
When the saints go marching in Happy Dance

Well, it isn't sinking.....
The hurricane could cause catastrophic flooding since the city is 3 or 4 feet below sea level.

yerssot
I wanna stress that I just quoted a song, never been there so I can't judge

botankus
New Orleans is a great place to visit. Getting back to the hotel from the French Quarter gets me everytime, though.
