Greatest Year in Music for Me

Myth
This is a great year of music for me. I have been a huge Green Day fan since the 6th grade (9 years) and in less than a week I get their new album, the first in 4 years. It has 9 songs and like 6 of them are between 7-9 minutes long each. Then in December, System of a Down has their follow up album to Toxicity. I can't wait. I have been a huge Rob Zombie and PM5K fan for years as well with Rob being my absolute favorite band. Zombie is on a break for his movie but I expect him to be singing several songs on the soundtrack plus Riggs from his band started up Scum of the Earth with PM5K's Mike Tempesta so I'm excited about that as well. PM5K has reunited as well with some new band members and have started some new shit of their own. These are my favorite bands and they are all doing shit at once. This is great to me.

meh, i'm looking at this as the weakest year in music in a long time. Weezer's album looks like it may not be out til early next year, and that was the one i was really looking forward to. Sparta's album was good but a bit disappointing. Though it will be interesting to hear Elliott Smith's final album. The Modest Mouse album was pretty good, but that is two good albums and possibly one great album. Not a great year for me musically.

Alpha Centauri
2001 was the best for me.

Weezer's "Green Album" and Tool's "Lateralus" on the same day. Then add to the mix that The White Stripes "White Blood Cells", Incubus' "Make Yourself", Muse's "Origin Of Symmetry", Jimmy Eat World's "Bleed American" and System of a Down's "Toxicity" all came out in 01 also and you've got the best year in music. By a long way.

05 will rule. New NIN, New Tool, New Weezer (So it seems), New Audioslave (if not this year), New White Stripes (Maybe), New Muse possibly. That seems to put things already on the right path.

I agree with AC, 2001 was an amazing music year, i was in 8th grade then and i listened to all those bands at the height of their careers. Toxicity, green album by Weezer, Bleed American, Taking Back Sunday's first album, Sum-41's album, Make Yourself by Incubus, Dr. Dre 2001, Eminem's 2nd cd, Unwritten Law cd's...all that year..i must of bought close to 30 cd's that 1 year alone (even when i had Morpheus...ahhh Morpheus, does anyone remember that program?)

I loved all the cd's i bought that year and i think that was also the height of my interest in the rock genre and well music in general....2001 = year of great music

ElectricBugaloo
for recently, i'd go with 1994.

Soundgarden--Superunknown
REM--Monster
Green Day--Dookie
Beastie Boys--Ill Communication
Jeff Buckley--Grace
Sloan--Twice Removed
Nirvana--Unplugged
Pearl Jam--Vitalogy
Nine Inch Nails - The Downward Spiral
Johnny Cash--American Recordings
Weezer--Weezer (aka The Blue Album)

and then Lollapalooza had the Smashing Pumpkins, Beastie Boys, George Clinton and the P-Funk All Stars, The Breeders, A Tribe Called Quest and Green Day for half the tour--and that was just the first stage.

The second stage had the Flaming Lips, the PHarcyde, Guided By Voices and The Verve.

Then there was Woodstock 1994. While it could obviously never stand up to the original, it was still the premier concert lineup for the past decade. Green Day, THe Spin Doctors, Primus, Metallica, Porno for Pyros (no Janes...), Red Hot Chili Peppers...damn, the list can go on forever.

So I'd say that 1994 is the best of the past 15-20 years. But If I went back farther, how about when Pet Sounds came out?

finti
even Allman brothers were at woodstock 94 even if they were mere a shadow of their glory days

ElectricBugaloo
yeah, Santana was there too. And Santana was probably as good as ever. He is absolutely killer in concert.

alic88
cant say specific year.... but specific decade has to be 80's. thts when the best music came out no doubt bout tht... if i had2choose best year

83

Deathblow
There's been a few good years recently, but '04 aint been one of them. For me, best things have been:

Soulfly - Prophecy
Incubus - A Crow Left Of The Murder
36 Crazyfists - Snow Capped Romance
Fear Factory - Archetype
Lacuna Coil - Comalies
Viktor Vaughn - Venomous Villain

'94 and '95 were great, '00 was good and come to think of it, last year wasn't so bad either.

Myth
I haven't actually looked up the years. What I meant is that this is the year that I am most excited for, not because of what has actually been released. But oh well. Maybe later, I'll look up the years and see which year put out the most of my fav albums.

finti
hmmmm looking back I must say even if I was just a little kid 1971 was a great year for music
The Who - Whos next
Deep Purple - Fireball
Black Sabbath - Paranoid
Pink Floyd - Meddle
Jethro Tull - Aqualung
Alice Cooper - Killer
Allman Brothers - Live at Fillmore east
Crosby Still Nash Young - Way Street
Led Zeppelin - LZ IV
Doors - La Woman

ElectricBugaloo
and don't make me go back to 69...

finti
another good year

finti
1969
Beatles - Abbey road
The Who - Tommy
Led Zeppelin I, and II
Tim Buckley - Blue Afternoon (yes the father of late Jeff Buckley)

just to name a few

ElectricBugaloo
don't forget Woodstock.

finti
yeah good event, but I was into album and their relase dates. The woodstock album wasnt released until a year after the show. So technically that would be a 1970 album smart smokin'

alic88
1983: mj-thriller
and release of arguably the best track of all times: EVERY BREATH YOU TAKE

shellspeare
1984- the jam, new order, depeche mode, the police, bowie, floyd, yazoo, queen etc......... my best year

finti
hmm Not sure what Floyd album and Police album you refer to from 84, unless you just talk about things you listened to that year rather releases of that year. smile

damn that quote thing gave me problems 4 attempts to make it right mad mad

113
yeah word 84 was good year ( i wasn'y alive then but i know what came out) and to add to the lists above the release of the billy joel album with "For the Longest Time" ...had some other famous good tracks too

ElectricBugaloo
you tell anyone that Woodstock was in 1970 and they'll look at you like you're an idiot

finti
Who said woodstock was in 1970????
I was talking about the release of the album from woodstock and that album was released in 1970 erm

Alice_In_Chains
Greatest Year in music....

1992.

Alice' were at their peak, Nirvana were riding high.
great music came frm tht year.

Alice in Chains' Dirt for one thing CLASSIC.

ElectricBugaloo
I still think that 94 was a better year for music than 92. Most of the things that started to hit hte mainstream in 92 were being perfected in 94, and new types of music in response to the grunge movement were coming into their own also.

and finti, i was tired when i wrote that, forgive me

finti
sure thing

Alice_In_Chains
i prefere the raw grunge frm the 92 time...but hey thts just me

ElectricBugaloo
but in 94 there was so much more going on than just one form of music.

that was the thing in 92, outside of grunge, what was there?

Alice_In_Chains
i dnt really care about anything else but the grunge at tht time....
but i do get u...things had progressed in 94....and i guess there was alot more to offer..
