Possibility or no? I for one would like to see it, and it would give Peter Jackson a chance to give movie-goers some background info on the trilogy (not to mention make even more $$$). But I heard he's having some trouble getting the rights to do it.

Anyone have any information or thoughts on the subject?

I thought he had the rights...or New Line got them. i dunno. i signed the online petition that was on Shadow of the Ring. I was like...number 1142 or something...so lots of folks want to see this movie made.

i think the original charecters from the movie Hugo Weaving and Ian Holm it would make the movie u know fit together with lotr

Yeah I would love to see the prequel to the most awesome trilogy ever.
But only as long as Pete's at the helm. And Ian Holm might be a bit to old to play a younger Bilbo by the time they would make it, but Hugo would definitely be my choice for Elrond....and Sir Ian McKellen for Gandalf.
Isn't Saruman in that story for a short short while? I say if he is...bring back Christopher Lee.
And when Bilbo is seeing the elves in Mirkwood and gets locked up in Thanduil (sp? name? ) castle...maybe we could get a first peek at Legolas? I mean...it is his daddy's castle...and Leggy is really really old.

Not that I'm one of those weird Orli fans...but I was wondering if he would be about in the first story while I was reading it and though he had no mention in the story...I'm sure he would have been in the background. But that's just my thoughts.

they will probably get someone else to do bilbo because the seen in lotr were bilbo finds the ring in the beggining, they said it took like tons of makeup just to make him look young

No kidding, I love it when a truely gifted director doesn't go with the normal Hollywood styles, etc. Maybe that is why PJ can create movies like the LOTR series, simply becasue he is so talented, and doesn't give a flip for how his hair looks. I think watching him in action on the DVD's proves how truely gifted he really is. Those restaurant people only care about Ashton Kutcher and Britney Spears. ugh.

I did! And I thought it was such a good book- that's why I was really hoping it would get turned into a movie. It explains so much!! And it has the whole dwarf aspect which was somewhat downplayed in LOTR. Plus the dragon...

To tell you the truth, I haven't read the hobbit in quite some time. But I did love Thrain (that's the leader's name, right?) and kili and fili... Personally, when i first read all four books (lotr 1, 2, 3, and hobbit) i liked the hobbit best out of all of them. I loved the spider part and mirkwood... It was all so well written! I even used to watch the animated version... How about you Thrain?

I've read the hobbit, great book. I was at a website a few months back that had sent a petition letter to New Line and they actually worte back that they would love to do a hobbit movie and if done they want Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh the head it like they did with LOTR.

My Fav book in the series is The Silmarillion, despite that Tolkien never completed it. I Think originally The Silmarillion was supposed to be longer than LOTR.

NO HOBBIT MOVIE!!!!!!!!!!!! The story was very childish, not like LotR. If Peter Jackson wants to finish Tolkien's work on movies good, then he should stop right now. Besides, we've already seen all the creatures in LotR. If it appears on screen, PJ maybe would want to change some things, that is if Christopher Tolkien let him.

I somewhat agree with Thor, Hobbit was much more enjoyable to read but still I loved reading lord of the rings.

The Hobbit was so fun to read and visualize after you seen the movie so you can have agood perspective on what bilbo and the shire gandalf elrond and all that other stuff looks like

"The HOBBIT" isn't that long, and Exa's post was talking about how the 4 main hobbits in LotR will be coming back for a hypothetical "The HOBBIT" movie playing the same characters that they played in LoTR. Even if the book ("The Hobbit" itself is long, putting the 4 actors wouldn't make sense at all. Not to mention the fact that none of those characters was already alive at the time of "The HOBBIT".

Maybe it will take place in "OUTER SPACE!!!!"

most of the changes to LOTR were, IMHO, the right choices for the purposes of film...

not all things that work in books translate well to the screne...
i think PJ did a great job...

sure, there a few things i would have approached differently...

like leaving the elves out of helmsdeep, putting the wildmen back into that battle, eliminating the ranger sword and having aragorn fight with the broken narsil untill geting it reforged at rivendell in FOTR, etc.

but there is no real need to change anything from the hobbit...
it would all work quite well on film... virtually word for word...

hopefully. knowing jackson he'll still find some way to change things

IT IS HUGE!, so much stuff, so many stories, that can never fit into a film

heck Luthien and Beren would take more than one movie to complete

alot of it could probably be taken out so that only the big story about the wars with Morgoth is left

The hobbit is getting made no doubt after King Kong is finished im sure he is going to start on it. I dont know what you guys are talking abou the only person that could make this movie is Peter Jackson it would be a crime to let anyone else make it. Ian McKellen is very ready to make it too. So im sure he will be playing Gandalf that would also be a crime if he didnt. I really hope they have the same Elrond.
Id even love to see Tour and the Fall of Gondolin, The Story of Beren and Luthien or any of the Silmarillion stories on film but i sincerelly doubt that would ever happend very few have read these stories and theey would probally be too hard to put to film.
But as for the The Hobbit i cant wait i have a gut feeling its going to be made im sure of it.
They are talking about making it into a TV series personally i would like a movie better.

PJ did not do a good job with lotr!! i agree its a big book but he left out all the good parts:/ and changed so much.. (i would like to see the part with tom bombadil in FOTR!! ) dont know if im the only one but i dont like PJ!!

Tom Bombadil, as wonderfull as he was, wasn't essential to the story. so he could be taken out. and the movies are long enough as it is without trying to keep everything from the book in there. it could have been worse.

How to put thousands of book pages in a movie that does not take 45 days to see. I think PJ did an incredible job with the movie. I'm only dissapointed by the way Saroumane died. But I guess it's pretty much the same than in the book. (Grim kills Saroumane and then gets hit by an arroe).

If the hobbit is made, i doubt i'll go and see it if he uses diff actors i.e.some random for bilbo. Or if he does it with the whole thing exa was saying with sam merry pippin etc.

It's too big to make into a movie, you can't have one little story without telling the story as a whole. Or it wouldn't make sense to the the audience and result in slating of the good name of "The Book of Books" and i at least hope it never happens

Silmarillion would be kind of hard, since there's so many stories all blended together as well as the big story. but the final battle against Morgoth would be really awesome

Nah, I'd much rather see the Silmarillion than The Hobbit. Although they should split it into lots of films to get all the stuff in. And Jackson could condense it. And you know it would be good. The battles would just rock! And he could easily get the threshold numbers - he's got a following. I mean comeon - we need something to make our decenber again!

But The Hobbit is the prequel to the Lord of the Rings, so it would make sense for him to make it.

PJ's gonna have his lil' one year hiatus. He deservves it. he's been working non-stop for the last 10 years. Now he make look quite a bit better he's now as thin as a rake, but i hate to think of the side affects of that stress were.

Well after the success with the first three films I would hope that they wouldn't trust anyone else with making it. If it takes time, then we can wait. If PJ wants it then I think he should get it, after all he proved himself with the others. I guess we'll just have to wait and see......

How could they make the Gollum scenes interesting bearing in mind the exposure he's had in the trilogy already.

I wouldn't be suprised if they change the movie to include more characters from LOTR. Expand on some roles and maybe even add some. PJ showed that he isn't afraid of changing things, so you never know what could happen.

As for casting I would have to sit and think about it. The races were so defined already that they will have to pay close attention to who they select.
