Mafia Girl
I don't know if anyone else here likes both a Perfect Circle and John Lennon, but Perfect Circle did a cover song of his song Imagine, and suprisingly I thought it was good(I really never like cover songs). Of course, it can't compare to John Lennon's version. I don't know if my link will show up or not, if it doesn't just go to aperfectcircle.com and click on news, it should be there.

ElectricBugaloo
hmm..i'll check it out. i'll report back on my expert findings.
yes, i'm being a little arcastic on me being an expert
Darth Revan
Wow, excellent stuff, up to APC's usual high standards.
ElectricBugaloo
It's surprisingly good. I don't think that it can equal the original because that was John Lennon's marquee solo song, and it is so entwined with the Lennon mystique.
But it does what a good cover should do: it does the song and adds a little of uniqueness to it (like No Doubt's "Ob-Li-Di, Ob-Li-Da"

. It has the APC thing to it, but then it still holds the simplicity of the original. It is a little more polished and a little more complicated (the original was a simple piano and Lennon's voice), but it is a very good cover
TrAnCeDuO
this song has been doing quite well in Detroit...
Ronny
DARN THIS THING *spanks speakers* cry
Deathblow
Great song, I liked the way they completely personalised it. It would have been very easy to make a much simpler version.
Can't wait for the new album. eMOTIVe, November 2nd cmon!!!
Arachnoidfreak
That video of the "Counting Sheep to the beat of the drums"(or something) that they have on their site is really funny.
StinkFist462

Deathblow
I thought it was ''war drums''

Darth Revan
There's already an APC thread... But anyways...
Close call between both their albums. I have to say that Mer De Noms just edges in at first though, I don't like the song "The Outsiders" too much.

I liked Mer De Noms better for a long time, but recently Thirteenth Step has overtaken it, mainly because of The Package and A Stranger
And I've already pre-ordered eMOTIVe

StinkFist462

StinkFist462
i wish

ElectricBugaloo
Mer de Noms, eMOTIVe is pretty good, different
Drumdude1167
Guess what, thats right, from the twisted minds of maynard, lead singer of tool, comes A PERFECT CIRCLE. Yet this is not a new band, but they're putting thier own spins on some old songs, out right now is Imagin by John Lennon. The song is awesome, yes everything they do is awesome. So I suggest you pick up their new cd nov 2nd called eMOTIVe, and their dvd coming out called.....ill have to get back to you on that, if you know please tell me, i would really like to know, anywho. PICK THAT CD UP......No release date for tool's next album, but they say their trying some new stuff out and they're in the studio alot, so more details later next year.....any who PICK UP THAT CD
StinkFist462
ok dude ... look on the first 2 pages .. there are about 3 - 5 perfect cirlce threads .. i made one even on the new DVD/CD coming out .. look next time or use the "search" thing .
Darth Revan
Durr... search function... I doubt that at this point there is a single person in the music forum who does not know about APC and their upcoming album/DVD...
<<Solo>>
I just found out.
Drumdude1167
im cooler than the rest of you so i guess this one shall stay
Df02
spoke a bit too soon there didnt u...
personally i dont rate APC that much, are like a boring version of Tool
Darth Revan
But they're not like Tool... They're like... APC droolio
Ronny
thats because APC its the most wonderfulist band ever
but i see your point

Df02
they are like a less intricate, more emotional goth-like Tool...and its boring imo lol

Deathblow
Less intricate yes, boring no flucking way droolio.
Nivek's right, they're nothing like Tool. If I had to make a comparison I'd say...a cross between Roxy Music and Lacuna Coil.
Ronny
APC is loads softer than tool i started out with tool then listened to some apc i recognized maynard strait off but the sound is like uber different
but i still love it droolio
cauteriZed
loving the sig,ronny
Ronny
thanks

BOPRecruit 16
the only songs that i can remember hearing by them, is "the noose" and blue that sounded hella good. hearing both of these, got me interested in learning more about this band and perhapes buying their cds. do they have a greatiest hits cd and a new album coming out anytime soon?
Darth Revan
They have eMOTIVE coming out sometime early November, which is going to be a political thing... All cover songs, but I think it will be very good. As for the rest of their stuff, they only have two albums out already, Mer De Noms and Thirteenth Step. Personally I think Mer De Noms is just a little bit better... But they both rock.
BOPRecruit 16
how long has this band beena round? i thought they were around since the 80's or something...no?

Darth Revan
Nope. Tool, which is Maynard's first band, has been around since 1992 or something. APC has only been around since 2000.
Silver Stardust
I'm almost wondering if I like APC better than Tool...
BOPRecruit 16
so he left tool, but is that band still around, tool?
Ronny
APC is maynard experiment his 'baby' if you must
Silver Stardust
I think I've listened to Tool since 1995 about (I was 9), but I only discovered APC last year.
Darth Revan
No, he hasn't left Tool, he sings in both bands. Though I get the feeling that Tool's days are numbered, unfortunately.
Ronny> Actually, APC is Billy Howerdel's experiment... Maynard didn't get in on it until after Billy and Paz and family were together and looking for a lead singer.
SS> I've decided that I do like APC better than Tool... Makes me sad somehow

Silver Stardust
I'm still kinda undecided which one I like better...I think that eMOTIVE will be the deciding factor for me.
And I hope that Tool doesn't break up or anything cry
Darth Revan
I know, me too, but I really think Maynard is going to decide he wants to concentrate on APC cry I just have a feeling...
Ronny

sorry my bad
Darth Revan
Ish coo'
Jesus Christ Ronny, you've changed your sig like five times in the past 20 minutes

Ronny
they all suck and i lost the rest of them again cry
lil bitchiness
Nooooo cry Nivek, it cannot be!! cry
Darth Revan
I'm sorry Milla
I still love Tool, I just... I dunno, APC make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside cry
lil bitchiness
cry Noooooooooooooooooooocry
Deathblow
I thought I liked them more for a while aswell, but then I heard Stinkfist being played ultra loud at my friends house the other night, and I was re-converted to Toolio notworthy
Silver Stardust
Well, like I said, I think the deciding factor for me will be eMOTIVE...right now Tool's still ahead of APC, but it's very narrow.
*Georgina_A*
A Perfect Circle rock

StinkFist462
Tool will always pwn APC in my book .. i love APC but i will always love tool more ...
Ronny
i like them the same cry
Deathblow
Also I grew up listening to Tool, so APC will always be the side-project to me.
Best side-project in the history of the universe tho

Drumdude1167
Tool is the greatest band in history APC is great also NIN sucks terribly.
Deathblow
Got any backup for that statement?
StinkFist462
dude how could u not like NIN you need to burn for that BURN BEEHOTCH
seriously i like NIN as much .. if not better ... than Tool ...
Deathblow
yeah word NIN are one of the only acts out there that can match Tool.
If only Tapeworm had taken off, then you would've seen ranting
StinkFist462
yea why did they stop Tapeworm ? that would have been the greatest thing ALIVE
Darth Revan
My guess is they were too busy with their real bands... Curse that double-teaming fool of a Keenan! ranting
Drumdude1167
i think NIN are ok with closer/piggy/hurt/everything else, but when they came out with star ****ers i didn't really like that song
GUESS WHAT EVERYONE, DID YA HEAR, THE GREATEST BAND IN THE WORLD, TOOL, IS BACK IN THE STUDIO AND WORKING ON SOME NEW THINGS. It would be great if they came out with it by the end of the next year. or beginning of 2006, i would love that. Im listening to prison sex right now, next i think will be....eulogy, then a little aneamia, then some pushit, how about some stinkfist, so i'll be busy, and number 69 on the one cd with prison sex, cant remember the name of the cd, great one though, NOV. 2nd for APC, never forget, im reminding you guys everyday
BOPRecruit 16
is their a music video for "the noose" and when did that single come out?
Darth Revan
I don't think there's a video for The Noose. In fact, come to think of it, I don't know that it IS a single...
But y'know what... Screw singles, I've found that in a lot of cases, songs that aren't singles are better. Like Korn for instance, a lot of their singles kinda suck, but overall, they're a damn good band.
Black Daisy
*twitch* november 2nd
that long *twitch* cry
Darth Revan
November 2nd is my dad's b-day
Guess what he's getting

BOPRecruit 16
Song: The Noose
Artist: A Perfect Circle
Album: Thirteenth Step
So glad to see you well
Overcome and completely silent now
Without himself
You cast your demons out
And not to pull your halo down
Around your neck and tug you off your cloud
But I'm more than just curious
How you're planning to go about
Making your amends to the dead
To the dead
Recall the deeds as if
They're all someone else's
Atrocious stories
Now you stand reborn before us all
So glad to see you well
And not to pull your halo down
Around your neck and tug you to the ground
But I'm more than just curious
How you're planning to go about
Making your amends to the dead
To the dead
With your halo slipping down
Your halo slipping
Your halo slipping down
Your halo slipping down
Your halo slipping down (repeated)
Your halo slipping down to choke you now

Darth Revan
Yeah, I know the song, what I'm saying is that I didn't think it was a single.. Could be wrong.
BOPRecruit 16
oh alright then. is their new album out yet?
Darth Revan
Mer De Noms=first album, released May 2000
Thirteenth Step=most recent album, released September 2003
eMOTIVe=upcoming album, to be released November 2nd
BOPRecruit 16
yeah, i saw those when i was looking up lyrics for the noose. strange title and foreign like titles for the songs on that one album, mer de noms. what the heck does that mean?
IndieKid
Not as good at Tool.
Deathblow
Aside from the fact they have the same lead singer as Tool, they have absolutely nothing at all to do with them, so why compare?
Black Daisy
does your dad like apc

StinkFist462
its french for
Sea of Names
Black Daisy
french fries droolio im sooooo hungry
Darth Revan
No. The idea is to go out and buy eMOTIVe, then give it to my dad, who will never listen to it and so offer it to me
My dear mother doesn't like me spending too much money on music
But it was a joke, my dad's getting a Keb' Mo' CD for his birthday

Black Daisy

i knew that

Deathblow
I totally learned to play A Stranger on my acoustic today

By myself too
I played it for one of my friends a couple of hours ago, he is so jealous of my talents
Next up: 3 Libras

Deathblow
lookie what came in the mail for me this morning

Darth Revan
No fair cry
I already know how to play 3 Libras so schmoll
Deathblow
actually, I totally nailed 3 Libras on acoustic last night
now if you excuse me, I'm gonna go lay down in a dark room and have a religious experience with my new APC cd droolio
Alpha Centauri
I can play every APC riff on guitar. Some sound better than others with/without added effects.
-AC
Darth Revan
No fair cry
I would be getting it today, but I made the mistake of asking the guy at the CD store if he could pre-order it for me, and my mom was in the background, and she said, "oh, would you like it for your birthday sweetie? Of course you would!" cry
I can't get it until the fecking 20th!!! ranting
Alpha Centauri
If you're definately gonna buy it, go download it. Listen to it, then salivate while waiting.
The album is on the net, I've had it for ages. (I own the CD now).
-AC
Deathblow
I was going to download it, but I couldn't bring myself to. For once I wanted to wait until I actually had the CD in my hands. I only actually listened to the first 30 seconds of Imagine when it was on their website.
To tell the truth, I'm actually a little disappointed by it so far. Every song sounds like The Noose off of Thirteenth Step. Great song, but I can see it getting dull. I'm on track 5 right now, fingers crossed it gets better.
Deathblow
Wow, 'Passive' is great. I was worried there weren't going to be any heavy tracks at all.
Deathblow
Ok, Emotive isn't as good as Mer De Noms and frankly, Thirteenth Step shits allover it. A couple of really really good songs, but a couple which just don't go anywhere. It's quite creepy though, which is good.
Sorry for the running commentary

Alpha Centauri
The only music I never ever wanna hear anything of before I get the CD is Tool. Otherwise I'll try to seek SOME of it out.
-AC
Silver Stardust
Really?

well, I don't have the money to buy it today or anytime this week anyway...
wicker_man
I've got Mer De Noms, and they've done some good songs but they're defiantly not my favourite band.
Alpha Centauri
It's a covers album with one new song and a semi-new song. What you hear is what you'll get basically.
I don't doubt their next full-length album will rule. Not to mention that they will be around longer than Tool and Maynard will eventually be able to concentrate all his material on the band.
-AC
Deathblow
I'm sure it will, but I highly doubt that they'll ever produce anything as ridiculously good as Thirteenth Step again. Or at least not until Tool comes to an end, which, god willing, won't happen for a quite while.
Alpha Centauri
I give Tool one, at max two more albums.
-AC
Afro Cheese
I have Thirteenth Step.. it's one of my favorite albums. And I like the songs 3 Libra's, The Hollow, and Judith from Mer De Noms.
Deathblow
As much as I hate to say it, I can only see Tool dropping one more record.
Good songs, but the best song on Mer De Noms by far is Rose. The middle-eastern style guitars are wonderful. Almost reminds of Sepultura.
Afro Cheese
I haven't heard that one, I'll have to try it out.
Darth Revan
My favorite off Mer De Noms is still 3 Libras... But they all kick ass. In a nice, subtle, funky-tuning kind of way.
norrin radd
it seems that when the levee breaks its not an original song from led zeppelin like i tough.
led zeppelin also covered the song. it seems that it is from memphis minnie.
Alpha Centauri
"led zeppelin also covered the song. it seems that it is from memphis minnie."
Not seemed, is. They made it famous is all.
-AC
MagdalenA
just a few comments -
you guys think apc will outlive tool? I cant really see that happening....billy said there are no plans for them reforming yet (if ever) and if they do, he doesnt know who will be doing what in the line up (including maynard) and the other guys seem to have already found other things to do...but i would love to see them get back together the current line up is really something.
-eMotive is still growing on me-
Alpha Centauri
I thought APC would outlive Tool if both were together. Being that APC have split prematurely for Record Company reasons, Tool are obviously infront.
If they were both together, APC no doubt would outlive Tool. I think Tool (due to their rate at putting out albums) will only last AT BEST, two more including the upcoming album.
I'd like to see James Iha leave and Danny Lohner take his place, then he can go back with Billy Corgan, Darcy Wretsky and Jimmy Chamberlain to reform The Smashing Pumpkins.
Buuuuut that will never happen so I guess we're screwed. It sucks but APC gave us two awesome albums and one very good, for what it essentially is. There's a DVD coming out too so we're not starved for material.
Besides, if this does prolong the lifespan of Tool being that Maynard now only has one band, I'm all for that.
-AC
-AC
MagdalenA
the dvd is just a collection of their music videos though so big whoop.
i hear what you are saying though...fair point about tool and apc lifespans
Deathblow
I'm 100% certain that we haven't heard the last of APC. There's no way they'll end that part of their careers with an album of cover versions. As good as Emotive was (in most places), it sounded rushed. It took them 3 years to finish Thirteenth Step, and that was literally perfect. Give them time, and I'm sure they'll do the same again. Two albums of original material is a pretty meagre legacy for such a huge band to leave behind. They run the risk of being forgotten as a side-project.
Besides, if they don't reform, I'll hunt them down and lock them in a studio out in the middle of a desert until they've recorded at least two more CD's. Except for Paz, she scares me.
Alpha Centauri
"They run the risk of being forgotten as a side-project."
I don't think so at all. I'll always view them as a band in their own right.
-AC
Silver Stardust
I was at Best Buy earlier today (my sister wanted to get a CD) and I was sooooo tempted to buy eMOTIVE...but I didn't have enough money on me

Deathblow
Of course, me too, but i'm talking about people say 15-20 years from now.
Darth Revan
Heyyy Paz is cool

<<Solo>>
APC's Cover of Black Flag's Gimme Gimme Gimme is shweet droolio
Deathblow
Yep, thats my favorite song on the album.
Almost makes up for their 'cover' of When The Levee Breaks. God I wish they'd never attempted that song.
Deathblow
I hate it. It's completely flat. Sure it's pretty and kind of relaxing to listen to, but it's awful dull. I don't know whether it's Maynard or Billy singing, and I can't be bothered to go check the sleeve to find out, but you can barely hear their voices, and the drumming which is supposed to be the driving force behind the song, is weak.
The original was a fantastic blues-rock anthem, the cover is just a lifeless piece of ambient boredom.
