I'm sure most of you guys heard about this already. It started as a rumor, and was denied at first. But it's been confirmed already that Mira Nair was offered to direct the 5th installment of the Harry Potter film. She hasn't agreed to it yet, because she's not sure if she "can devote 2 years of her life" working on Harry Potter.

Anyways, what do you guys think of her? I haven't seen any of her movies at all. She directed Vanity Fair (starring Reese Witherspoon) as most of you may know. And coincidently, the girl who plays Gabrielle Delacour in the GoF movie was also in Vanity Fair.

So far, I've read comments about her and her latest movie "Vanity Fair." She sounds fairly like Alfonso Cuaron. People were complaining about how "chopped up" and how badly the scenes were "jumping" in Vanity Fair was (hmm, sounds like POA)... But people have also complimented her aesthetic tastes on costumes and physical attributes to the film (much like how Alfonso gave HP a "magical" touch).

I think she's done like 8 movies and numerous TV programs - they're mainly Indian movies though but the most famous one you might heard of was the recent 'Monsoon Wedding' which did very well in the UK at least, the latest one is Vanity Fair obviously. I don't really know her work either to be honest but I really wouldn't like another Alfonso Cuaron style movie, I agree about the smooth magical touch his film had but I think C.Columbus had that too just in a different way. Plus, Alfonso sacrificed and altered too much for my liking.

As for Mira, she's had big budget movies but this will be something else totally and a worthwhile project for any director who likes grandeur and fantasy and she'll definitely be able to go wild with being aesthetic and luxurious in costume, background etc even though Book 5 is a very dark one.

Either way it will be interesting to see what she can do but I'm not keen on constantly changing director's, she'll be the fourth. Some might say it keeps the interpretation and style fresh and innovative so that you don't get bored but I'm not sure I agree with that in this particular instance just yet. You never know though, I'll just have to wait and see, especially after I see Vanity Fair next month wink

I haven't seen any of her movies.. embarrasment So, I'll remain open-minded..
But, to be honest, I wouldn't have chosen Columbus over Cuaron.. I agree with RPhoe^^ both changed some important, or even minor aspects of the movie.. I'd combine Columbus' attention to details of the books, with Cuaron's set-- personally, I think the atmosphere Cuaron set for HP3, at Hogwarts, was more attractive than Columbus', even though it was a little far-fetched from the book, if you get what I mean.. wink

All, in all, ^^if I didn't make sense, as usual..^^ I think the movies deserve a better director than the past two..

I saw VF last month. How does the movie compare to the book? (Yes, I'm sure the book is better?!?)
