I thought it might be interesting to see what kinds of jobs we have or have had. Are you still a scholar or a student? Do you work full-time or part-time? What kind of work do you do? What have you done in the past?

I looked for this, but couldn't find it, so if it's been covered before, I apologise.

As for myself, I've been a clerk in a videostore, a chauffeur for VIP's, a journalist at a student newspaper, I bartended while I was in London, waitered in a posh restaurant here in South Africa (I once served Nelson Mandela: He had chicken!), at the moment at I am tutor at a university for Sociology students, as well as a research assistant. In about two days I am starting at Media South Africa, as a part-time media analyst.

So how about you?

i used to work for a global pharmaceutical company called west pharmaceuticals. i only worked part time, i was the assistant to the IT manager. So basically i had to install peoples email on their machines, install printers, drivers and whatever stuff, fix broken computers, lots of little jobs like that.

the only reason i left was because i moved to the other side of the world!

moneypenny
I am a lecturer at a University of Technology. I'm also battling through my PhD which opens up lots of opportunity for travel. I worked as a casual in a clothing shop when I was studying and as a belly dancer in Moroccan and Greek restaurants for many years while I was lecturing and doing my masters. Stopped that about 2 years ago when the worry of seeing my students in the restaurants became too much smile Also, I was getting tired of losing bits of my costumes all over the place.

yerssot
moneypenny huh? sounds like someone who should visit the james bond section wink

moneypenny
Sounds that way. Thing is I don't even like Bond movies (I'm opening myself up to major criticism here aren't I?) I liked the name though and under pressure was all I could come up with smile

yerssot
ah shucks, there goes my attempt to lure another soul wink

moneypenny
I could go look, but everyone will laugh at my comments and I'll feel like a lost soul on stillettos with champagne bubbling through my brain... stick out tongue

yerssot

I once saw this site about the most absurd excuses people put down for car accidents. Stuff like "I was driving when I looked around and saw my mother-in-law, then I drove my car into a ditch" or "I pressed the button for the garage door to open and didn't see that I was in the wrong driveway so I crashed into the garage door" and stuff like that.

It was hilarious.

I work as a cashier at a local, family owned grocery store, and now I work at a movie theater...
Life, what life?

Corran
Oh cool - I'd love to work at a movie theatre, I love movies.

Line
they'd probably demand you'd keep your clothes on then ... would you be up for that?

Corran
Hmmm, I've never taken MY clothes off in a cinema before.

Line
ah, good. guess they don't have a fire man's pole in a cinema anyways ....

sorry - it's getting late and I'm killing time. I'd better log out ...

I'm an English teacher in Korea--it's awesome! Good $ and I get to travel all over Asia. There are tons of fellow Amerians here; it's a big party...but I am applying to grad schools right now...the fun has to end some time. *sniff sniff*

Imperial_Samura
I like to think of myself as a student and scholar of life, although the actually subject is history major with some politics. All very good. Still I have worked in the past. I may again in the future. Right now however I am a student and Communist so working is against the code.

PandoraMomo
Yeah, just started there the other day... it is alot of fun, except for the screaming children, but u get used to it. U should really come to my theater.. It could use some excitement.. or nudity.. we nver have enough of either.

Silver Stardust
You got the job at the theater, Momo? Would they by any chance still be looking for anyone?

Full time student...and desperate for a job.

PandoraMomo

Fiery Eyes
Well, this is a really cool thread. It's neat to see what all everyone does in life. The coolest job so far that i've seen was working at the movies hehehe I absolutely love movies!!!!
anyways....I work in the loan department in a bank.

Darth Revan
I'm still in high school... I have no idea what I'm going to study in college, but I'm leaning towards some kind of science... My dream job would be a professional musician, but most likely I'll end up doing something nerdy like science journalism... Maybe teaching geek

MornGlory
I work at a taxi company- I take orders from ppl who want cabs - and if ppl dont get their cab when they want it I get called all sorts of goody names!! -

ChickinMeat
wow, its really interesting to see what everyone does as a job or study's, you never usually think bout this stuff when your posting on here.

i might try get a job in a videogames shop, but i havnt thought about it yet.

Corran
Err Cool, I'd pay for lessons to have you beat me up wink

PandoraMomo
Ok, random work related spazz:
I have worked at my job at the grocery store, and everyone there still thinks I'ma polite, sweet and innocent girl(which anyone who knows me knows is false). And I;ve only been at the movie theater for a week, and already I'm labeled the biggest, horniest "sicko" there. Just because I lost my extra shirt and one of my coworkers heard me ask over the phone, "where's my shirt?", and because it apparently sounded like by best friend and i were having sex, but we were just laughing! Man, how do i get a reputation in one week??? WTF!

Corran
Errmmm OK.

Silver Stardust
Heehee...that story's great...

I have now applied at Momo's movie theater, now I just have to wait for them to call...but I have no patience...and I need a job NOW...

Shaolin Monk
I only had summer jobs up until this year...mainly just painting. I recieved my AS degree (in Computer Science) June of this year, then had knee surgery the day after.

In early August I was hired by Dell for some short term work in Northern California. There were 6 elementary schools that ordered a bunch of computers from Dell, and they needed someone to unbox them, set em up, and put em on the school's network...so I did that for all of August and September.

I now do Tech Support for a local ISP. Well...I actually just sit there with a headset on and two monitors in front of me, playing games, surfing the net, watching shows/movies, etc...I get maybe 3 calls a day. It's like getting paid for what I do in my free time big grin

Lyn
Hmm...I'm still at school. I've just started part-time work at Charcoal Chicken...laughing
When I leave school I want to go to University and get a Bachelor of Music and Education to become an Instrumental Music Teacher - Clarinet. Still have a while to go yet though...

Fire
still a student big grin
