I was listening to a local radio show this morning, and they were discussing this store "Build-A-Bear." The store is primarily a plush toy distributor with a very clever twist...

The children pick the animal and watch it get made before their eyes. They pick accessories and everything. Build-A-Bear Official Site

It is indeed genius marketing in its prime... but what about the parents. Every person that called in about Build-A-Bear was saying that employees do not even consult the parents about whether the child can receive all of the extra accessories on their bear. They ask the children what THEY want... and you know that if a parent tries to intervene and say, "No, your dog cannot have slippers," that is just asking for a public tantrum to ensue.

They are kinda pricey, if you buy little clothes etc, but hey she only goes once a year so what the heck.

One person bought three bears. The grand total was approximately $200.00 USD.

They ask the children, and children have no concept of monetary value, or budgets. They ask what accessories, clothes, shoes, ect. they children want on the bear, and you know the kid wants their bear to have sunglasses and a cute little shirt.

It is, more or less, very low and disgraceful.

Actually, no SG that's great business (mostly for the store owners). A salesman making a sale like that is pretty skillful.

I understand that a sale is a sale regardless of how it is done. However do you see no wrong in their methods?

Somewhere along the four pages my main point was missed.

Do you not find it immoral that 9/10 times these employees ignore the fact that the money for these bears have to come from somewhere, and perhaps sometimes the Bank of Mom and Dad is running a little lean. But who cares? Lets make sure this kid has sunglasses for the giraffe.
