Dude what are you doing?
You are aware that most tuners have a BASS setting too.
Make sure you aren't tuning it in Bass mode - no wonder your strings are snapping.
Most tunersdisplay things like 1E for the "highest" string. Then 2B, then 3G, then 4D, then 5A, then 6E.
E A D G B E
You must be lashing yourself by snapping them in that way.

There could be burrs in his bridge. I had that problem too. But, then again, maybe he is tuning them an octive higher then is needed?

If in doubt, check the tenseness of the string. There should be some give so you can bend the strings easily.
If, however, the strings are taught like garrot wire, then stop what you are doing cos they are about to snap again.
Try looking online for some "sound" tuning files. Some sites will play a tone that you should try and match on your guitar.
Try and understand what range you are looking for before tuning too. Try and get the pitch in your head beforehand.

yeah i know 6e, 5a, 4d etc. thing....
i'm tuning my 5th string, and i'm turning the pegs to get to 5a, but evertiem i turn it, the string snaps....is it the way i put the new string in?
Red Superfly
Yeah, and do you have it set on GUITAR? (your tuner)
It shouldn't be snapping. Now I'm confused. WHat sort of guitar is it - electric/acoustic?
Is it possible you are using the wrong string?
***S***
What kind. Electric or Acoustic?

check it out i think your turning it the wrong way man try to get it to the same note by turning the peg the opposite way from when you brake when i first started playing i had the same problem those hand held electric tuners are funny like you can get to an A tuning either way you turn the peg but one way it gets to tight and brakes
hope that helps man

I did use electric tuners before, but now I use a pitch-whistle and/or a pitchfork. I find them better.
Preference, I suppose.
Red Superfly
I can tune it normally, just by listening to it, but I have my electric tuner handy because I'm nit-picky and have to have it set EXACTLY right.

Buy an issue of Total Guitar, it has the tuning files on the CD.

Maybe your strings are rubbish. Theres no way you should be able to break your e,a or d strings. Your guitar would snap in 2 before they broke.
