Hey WindDancer any chance you could find me a picture of an Ojibwe chief named "Hole-In-The-Day", or "Bugonagashik"? (not sure about the spelling of the Indian version)
WindDancer
Yeah I have one!!!! He was a great leader of the Mississippi bands! He was consider quite a gentleman, and he was also very diplomatic! Can you believe that his murder was never investigated!!! The Government never did investigated the murder. Even today certain Native activist are appeling to the government so that the chief case is brought to justice (sounds strange but for them Justice has not been served).
Here is his pic:

Darth Revan
Thanks for the pic
He's an ancestor of mine, somewhere down the line, did a project about him way back in sixth grade
Darth Revan
And about the murder thing... Typical of the US government. They have, for as long as we've been here, been prejudiced towards Indians.
VilleValo462

The scalping, actually, was done on Native Americans, rather than other way arround.
It was the way of proving you murdered them. Some used to give out rewareds to people who killed them.

Here's a good one of Chief Joseph of the Nez Perce... Little small though...

I know scalping was a practice originally used on Indians, but didn't they eventually adopt the practice themselves? Anyways...
A similar thing was done with the Plains Buffalo herds--the government paid people to go out and shoot as many buffalo as they could. This was done for several reasons--the first being that the buffalo got in the way of trains, and trampled farmer's crops. The second, and I find this really disgusting, is that they were trying to destroy the plains Indian's way of life so they would be forced to move onto reservations. "Buffalo" Bill Cody, the famous gunslinger/frontiersman, got his nickname from a massive buffalo slaughter he participated in. It's just... disgusting... I can't think of a better word.
WindDancer
That is so cool DR!!!
lil bitchiness> I'm sorry for using some historic events and turn into politics. I'll be more careful next time
