Lately I have been contimplating my place in life. My job, as great as it is and the room for progress it offers is a very tempting thing... but I want more. I dont want to fathom whether or not I should call in sick everyday, I want to be sex-cited to go to work.

So, over the last week or so that I have taken Vacation time, I have been weighing my options... and one re-occuring choice is Military service. I know the downsides of potential death, but every time I think about it, it feels like the right thing to do.

Please, help me. What do you think of KMC's Man of Steel going into service?

First off, just to clarify a few things, I would probably not join the US military. I am Canadian AND American... what is commonly referred to as a DUEL CITIZEN.

I am aiming more for Canadian Navy, or perhaps the Marines.

scott...as an ex military spouse i know a lil bit about military life...its not for everyone but then you are not everyone . if its something you want to do then do it . have you talked to a recruiter yet ? they can help you with this decision too .

war is not always whats gonna happen....my husband was in during Desert Shield/Desert Storm 1990-1994 and he never was sent to war . it just really depends on your MOS .

there are alot of draw backs to being in the military . especially if you have a spouse . the time away when you train is one of them....but in the same respect...there are lots of good things as well .

i didnt like it when john was away from me . the longest time was when he went to jump school and was jumping out of planes...he was gone for 8 weeks but its what he wanted to do and i supported him all the way .

Mhmm, Nicci, it's slightly selfish of you to approach the subject from that angle. I was brought up in a military family, my dad was in the Royal Air Force all my life up until a year ago. As much as I missed him greatly when he went away I did enjoy the travelling I experienced when we were all posted to other countries as a unit. I grew up on RAF bases, with children who were living exactly the same lifestyle. I have to admit I loved it. My brother is giving serious thought to joining the Navy as an artificer and I applied for the RAF as an intelligence analyst. Unfortunately, although I passed my aptitude tests I failed in my interview, having admitted experimenting with drugs. They're strict bastards. I guess what I'm trying to say is, it's an excellent choice of profession. Don't worry about how families deal with the lifestyle, I can say first hand that it's a wonderful and enriched life to lead.

Just remember that 'Canadian Military' is an oxymoron

I called the recuitment centre today. I have atleast two months to wait before I get an answer about whether or not I am in.

The West Edmonton mall has three fully operational (sans weapons systems) submarines for the children to ride in.

The Canadian Navy has two fully operational submarines.... for the children to ride in.

To put it vaguely, I was the instigator to an accident that severely damaged several people's lives. During the arrest they busted me for heroin possesion and a shitload of other things as well. I was sentenced to three years shortly after my 17th birthday and was released after little over 2 years at 19.

I dropped the military plan, went to high school (I'd dropped out at 14) and now I'm in my 2nd year of veterinary medecine.
