papabeard
What do you think was the best decade for Horror? and Why?

30's,40's50's, 60's, 70's,80's,90's or 00's?

SlipknoT
Hmm, I'm going with the 80's I mean we got

Day of the Dead
Hellraiser
Friday the 13th
A Nightmare on Elm Street
The Evil Dead 1,2
The Thing
American Werewolf in London
Killer Klowns From Outer Space
Fright Night
Aliens
And Countless others

In the 70's we got some great ones too, like Dawn of the Dead, TCM, Alien, but I think the 80's were the golden years of horror.

papabeard
I agree agree definetly the 70's or the 80's, in fact im going with the 70's
because of

Halloween,
TCM,
ALien,
Friday the 13th(made in the 70's released in the 80's),
dawn of the dead
JAWS
THE EXORCIST
DRILLER KILLER
this was the decade when horror seriously took off as a genre. The 80's in comparison were far more commercial and exploitative, more interested in money than in imagination and innovation, it was bandwagon-jumping and cash ins, rushed films with no plot or imagination oall the classic are from the 70's when horror cinema was raw and experimental, pushing boundaries and limits, creating plausible storylines and giving credbility to a usually mocked and parodied genre

Napalm
70s and 80s

Cinemaddiction
Yep, late 70's, early 80's.

dean7879
70's

phantasm
cannibal holocaust
jaws
halloween
last house on the left
hills have eyes
dawn of the dead
black christmas
texas chainsaw massacre
exorcist
the shining?
the omen
alien
let sleeping corpses lie
susperia

80's

nightmare on elm street
tenebrae
maniac
american werewold in london
evil dead
the thing
return of the living dead
aliens
hellraiser
pet sematary

what list is better????
its hard to decide

BREN

eggmayo
Late 70's, 80's and early 90's

Dazzler619
The 1980's and early 90's

WindDancer
For me the 70's and the 80's.

Cinemaddiction
The Shining 1980.

dean7879
ahh...i need to study more reading lol

papabeard
it has to be the 70's all the way.

and whats with everyone choosing 2 or 3 decades, it kind of misses the point.

papabeard
again THE SHINING made in the 70's released in 1980

dean7879
so i was kinda right Happy Dance

BackFire
I'll go with the 70's, just for the huge number of influencial films that came out that decade that really changed the way horror films were percieved.

Mane
eek! I THINK THE 2000's BECAUSE WE GOTZ COOOL NEW HORROR MOVIEZ LIKE THE GRUDGE, THE DARKNESS, THE VILLAGE, OPEN WATER, VAN HELSING, AND SIGNZZZ!!!!11!1!!11 Happy Dance embarrasment rolling on floor laughing

willman
the best decade was the erly elm street films

BlackC@t
The 80's! eek!

SlipknoT
Mane, I really hope your kidding?

Mane
You honestly think I'm that stupid? no expression

SlipknoT
No, but I was scared for a minute.

MornGlory
i like all the horror movies of the 70s - they are still spooky and hilarious

Cinemaddiction
I chose one decade. A decade is 10 years, and my ten years fell between 1975 and 1985. smart

Let's not split hairs.

Zilverz
1980s for me where the **** is the poll at ? haha

papabeard
Its not splitting hairs, the movie was made in the 70's ( and took about 2 years to make, so production started in 78)and due to bureaucracy was not released until 1980, i think a film should be defined by the time period it was made and not when it was released, the release date has no bearing on the creation of the film but serves only to satisfy the fat cats whose pockets will be lined by the talents of others, looking to release a film at the optimum time to guarantee maximum profit

papabeard
late seventies early 80's is fine, but some people have just chosen 70's,80's and 90's, hahahaha

papabeard
What was the best decade for Horror?

blackdragoon
id sa 80's and now because:

80: 976, chucky , the freddy's , most of the jasons, demons , goulies ect

now: the ring , the grudge

papabeard
dragoon are you having a laugh, CHucky?

Wolfie
I say the '80s.

A Nightmare on Elm Streets
Friday the 13ths
Hellraisers
Evil Dead 2 (#1 was in '79, no?)
American Werewolf in London
The Howling

papabeard
Definetly the 70's

Cinemaddiction
You just asked the same question..? What's the best decade for Horror?

romper_stomper
i definitley have to say the 70`s they had some really no holds barred sleazy gritty flicks come out then and there were pretty much no rules
last house on the left
i drink your blood
i spit on your grave
the hills have eyes
texas chainsaw massacre
how can you beat films like these

kmcdude
80' one word.............Slasher's

romper_stomper
yeah i have to agree the 80`s was a great decade for ultra violent slasher movies

Cinemaddiction
Glad you didn't say ultra-VIOLENCE. Ultra-violence is a Kubrick term for rape, and dorks tend to sling it around without knowing the meaning. wink

Deano
savontys i say

slayer
The 70's and 80's were both great...to hard 2 pick a fave.
