SaTsuJiN
Yay, AoE III discussion thread~...

so what kinds of machines/units
will we see in AoE III? it looked fairly
Medieval to me.. but I suppose
they didnt wanna overly cliche that
since the total war series is riding up on that

The period we're covering is basically
from the end of Age of Kings until the industrial age.

I dont think the industrial age will be
so advanced that it will ruin the funfactor..
they also explain why they chose that timeframe..

The colonial time period is a good
fit for an Age game. Although military
technology has advanced, the fundamentals
of combat haven't changed from the Age of Kings
time period the way they would, say for WWI.

They also touchdown on one of your
concerns about those who are uncomfortable
with the move from the Medieval era :

this time period is probably less familiar
to most folks than the medieval time period
of Age of Kings. Some of the guys on the
project began with the misconception that
this time period was just "guys with guns,"
when in fact the unit diversity of the 1500s-1800s
is even greater than in the centuries before.

Well wouldn't be the first time the screenshots are a lot better than the game itself. But besides that I'm assuming it will have to do with the greats wars in europe between the 1500-1800's (a lot happened in europe in those 3 centuries) I'd like a campaign about the independance of the US from England. the US civil war will be a tad too late I assume also Napoleon will most likely not make an appearance (tho it would be a cool campaign)

dave123
hopefully this won't be one of those games where they try to pack too much stuff in, and make it too complex erm

SaTsuJiN
I hope they'll include some chinese or japanese civil wars... but I guess they might only be sticking to european civs erm
anyone know what races are definately gonna be in?

Maverick2364
Spanish, British and French.

Lord_Andres
I'm guesssing um what are they called in english? , that counrty right next to Spain they did alot of exploring during this period

Maverick2364
Portugal? They didn't exist in AOE II though.

Fire
if they want to do a decent job they will in this one. (they might very well include a few oriental civs Sat) prolly also the germans and maybe even an american nation, ofc also indians

dave123
the more, the better yes well... normally

Samas-adian
The game takes place in colonial time in the New World. Spanish, French and English are the confirmed nations. There's about 5 still not confirmed.
Looks awesome and from what i heard its going to play like a dream. It even has the Havok Physics Engine that allows cannonballs to hit the earth first and then roll and kill more people.

RaventheOnly
Its basically rise of nations laughing out loud

Lord_Andres
Ya Portugal, I bet my ass they will be in

Fire
I wonder how they are gonna do it (cause in some screenshots there are so many damn non-combat units wandering around) with the population limit and controling everything.

Samas-adian
The ages go from 1500 to 1850. The main idea for AoE 3 is that you have a home city that gains experience and builds up while your playing. I think you build up the city by yourself and the NPC's flock automacitally like in SimCity. You get to customize and stuff. But the main point of the home city is that its your economic support while you colonize the New World.

Fire
yea prolly gonna be something like that

SaTsuJiN
I thought it was going to (for a majority of the traditional play) mimic AoE 2 Expansion... hunt, fish, log, harvest, mine.. build structures, create units, flip through the ages.. I think if they took any of that out it really wouldnt be AoE

Maverick2364
I don't know, it looks far bigger than that. I'm not sure whether or not I'll get it since I may be a huge AoE fan, but they'll all be using guns which is less traditional and the warfare won't be as good. It'd be a bit more difficult to formulate actual strategies.

Fire
I think you will just have to build like mines and so forth and the comp will generate the workers (you might still have to pay gold or food or whatever for more workers) kinda like Caesar

Drifter101
i notice how often in these screenshots u can see the horizon as far back as possible yet in the real game even after u use the no fog cheats you can only see so far, yet in these screenshots u see for miles upon miles in the distance

Samas-adian
You dont have to build mines or any other drop-off centres. YOu create a villiager and send him to the resource, its automatically goes the reserve.
Its similar to original but somewhat different because of the inclusion of the home city in the Old World while your colonizing the new world. So its sort of your economic centre.
Its not like Rise of Nations at all.

choosewisely
i don't like the god things in it

Samas-adian
What?

Drifter101
they dont like how age of mythology put god powers in the game

Samas-adian
But what does that have to do with Age of Empires?

Fire
Samas were do you get your info?

Fire
nothing much except that AoM was an AoE spoof

SaTsuJiN
AoE is the RTS pwnz0r.. I hope they dish out new screenies soon @_@

Samas-adian
PC Gamer, just released a 10 page story about the game.

Fire
ooh cool, too bad we don't get it here, and if we did I couldn't go and buy it cause of those crappy exams.

Dogbert
I should get a subscription to PCG soon...

Samas-adian
Its much cheaper to get the subscription than to buy it every month.
Fire, you dont get it there? I know your from Belguim, but in my city we have magazine stores that strictly sell magazines that are popular around the world, especially in different languages.

Fire
here I ment my lil village in Belgium, in the city where I go to uni they prolly do, but since I have exams atm I can't go there when I feel like it

Samas-adian
I see, makes sense.

Fire
here we are a few months later and the site is up!
www.ageofempires3.com

Play with the French, Germans, Spanish, English, Portugese, Dutch, native americans (altho I think they will be more like allies) and one other unrevealed Civ.

This game is prolly gonna rock

SaTsuJiN
nooo I need an asian civ.. so I can get all.. samurai ish.. ~_-

Cid
^ agree with above, the screens look awesome

Fire
hehe maybe they had samurai in AoEII tho

Fire
All civilizations for Age of Empires III are known:
The Spanish, The British, The French, The Portugese, The Dutch, The Germans, The Russians and The Ottomanian (sp)

Native Americans, tho from what I have read this is not a basic civilization but you can form an alliance with them and then you will be able to build buildings and build units wiv them (You'll be playing wiv two civs at once)

Fire
I seem to be the only one waiting for this game but anywayz. You guys seen the trailer?

If you haven't you haven't missed much but there was something weird. There's a samurai in it.
Now the listed civs on their webby don't use samurai as far as I know. WEIRD

choosewisely
Bumping

and there it is! Aoe 3 finally in stores!
got it played it?

it's clear already that it looks absolutely great yes
i played campain for 6 hours since i got it....and i still wont bore me!
only 2 bad the mp doesnt work on copys

what do you think?

Fire
have the game since last night, pretty awesome, the idea of the Home City makes skirmish a lot more fun. You really want to get level 60. Campaign is too pussy easy.

Fire
Great game, too bad I took a wrong civ to start with, the french are way cooler than the german, altho the german get a kick ass amount of cavalry, the french get better cavalry and musketeers

SaTsuJiN
I wuv dopplesoldners

<3

Sir Mist
AoE 3 is out? shock

Sweet! *runs to the game store*

Fire
I'm more a fan of those unique french cavalry myself, too bad I started playing wiv the germans, all they have is a shitload of light cavalry.

Burning thought
I know ime resurrecting an old thread but ime wondering, do any of you guys know how the Two expansions Asian dynasty and Warchiefs work when you install them?

for example I have concerns on my home city, will i keep my fave home city or will I have to make a new one (this is for the ottomans, an original AOE 3 civ) which would be distressing or do I get to keep my old ones, also how does the game initiate, do you have to have the right disc for which expansion you want to play and can only use various features, for example I cannot use the Tribes and warchiefs civs in Asian Dynasty? or is it more like Dawn of War and Company of heroes where as long as the other packs are installed, you can use one disc to play all the content?
