Saw a programme on TV yesterday about Americans and their car obsession. Why?

Oil will run out, yet no-one on the programme yesterday wanted cars to do more miles/gallon, they wanted cheaper petrol.

One family with 1 infant daughter had 6 cars, normal paople but 6 cars, 6!!!!

So people of the forum, was the programme speaking rubbish or is America car crazy?

Good point though. Dodge Charger classic american car yet 9 miles to the gallon. And why do Americans call it football when there foot rarely touches the ball? And why do Americans call public toilets bathrooms? I mean you cant have a bath in a public toilet? And how come they cant spell colour properly? I could go on for days but I won't.

Im sure Americans have a million insults against the English. Every other county does!

Problem with England is, we would have that many cars, but they're way cheaper over there.

Petrol is short for petrolium.

Gasoline dont mean jack. It's petrolium. Gasoline is whats added at the first stage of...o forget it.

I think Americans have to have different phrases for words that are too long or they can't pronounce. Either that or it makes them feel important.

All of us drive our own car to work, mom keeps one to stay home.

One of them doesn't get driven though. My dad's all into restoring cars and stuff....

ONe of my buddies in Edinburgh, lives in town with his folks and 4 brothers and sister. They don't have a car. They use, wait for it...........................public transport

I'd ride my bike to work just for the exercise....but i work 40 miles away.

I kinda need my own car for school and work, because, wait for it...........there's no busline by my house that goes to either!

Edinburghs transport system is quite good. But obviously the dreaded "w" word is involved at some point when taking the bus/tram/tube/etc. I mean imagine a 5 minute, yes 5 minute, walk *gulp* to a bus stop. Scary thought innt. I dunno how some folk do it.

American Car Obsession will lead to a national and international petrol crisis eventually ending the reign of the US as a superpower... hopefully, not in the sense of punishing it, but making it understand that there is a world and not just a country on this planet. And I live in Texas.

And my mom has a minivan.

Only two. We have more computers than cars.

My dad has a work van which is like a minivan from the 80's that is square shaped and has been stripped of any back seats or whatever.. it's just two front seats and the back is all just a metal floor. He's a painter so that's what he uses for work. Then we have a regular little honda car that he drives everywhere but work and I drive anywhere I go. Also he has an old blue hippyish type van but that doesn't count because he never drives it. He just leaves it parallel parked in from of our duplex and we keep all our crap in it so it doesn't use any "petrol." Ah screw it I'm never gonna get used to saying that.

One and some of you have serious issues as you routinely turn alot of these threads into a US vs The rest of the world........damn get over it already, cant we all just exist?

My family has 3 cars..
A minivan, A new prius (that car is soo cool! it gets like 50 MPG! Fun to drive too) and my car, a 91 toyota camery..

its just me and my father and we have 3 cars and a motorcycle
an eclipse gsx, 81 vette, 4runner, and harley

2 cars. A Honda Civic and a Toyota Camry.

Lets see my dad has a van and my stepmom has a car and my mom has a car and my stepdad has a car.and my stepsister has a car.So two at my dad's house and three at my mom's house.JM

BTW, I have one car, a '99 Ford Escort, and my fiancee has a '97 version as well. Not flashy by any means but they're still running after 190,000 miles.

I live by myself but have 2 cars, a motorbike, a bicycle and a pair of rollerblades.

we only have the one ...but iam saving up for a car myself so when that happens 2

My family has two. My mam has one and my sister has one. It would be three if you count my dad but he doesnt live with us.

And by the way Astin martin's are my fave car. Well Astin martin vanquishes.
