The Inkeeper
Sometimes when i connect to the internet, when it is dialing, it will say that the line is busy and try again. I scanner pc and found a dialer, deleted it.

Now tonight i keep being DCed....like every few minutes, have i been hacked?

dave123
might have a trojan or some program that keeps requesting internet access....

do a THOROUGH check for anything else that might be dialing out, or containing some sort of trojan

also, check your physical connections

The Inkeeper
i had a trojan, but deleted it, now its doing it again.

dave123
the trojan file may but gone, but it's affect's are still active erm

run as much virus and spyware stuff as you can yes

and check for any .exe's made in the past week

The Inkeeper
and how do i do that weep
Im crap with conputers

Clovie
in file seach you write *.exe and in detail put last week eek! smart

dave123
yeah, it should identify anything that may have cause the problem

JKozzy
I'm privelaged enough to never have any dialup experience stick out tongue

But yeah, search for anything, and check this thread out, it might help you in your scanning:

The Inkeeper
Avg cant find anything
File searching looking for .exe in the last month cant find anything.....

dave123
you MUST have made an exe in the past month....

The Inkeeper
not according to this

dave123
go to search, and in "file type" select .exe

Clovie
you have to put "*" there yes

Raz
Make sure you update the AVG virus definitions to the latest version. If it doesn't find anything, you're more than likely clean.

Captain REX
Run Norton Antivirus! yes

yerssot
that's like throwing water on your keyboard blink

The Inkeeper
ok, i found millions of .exe files created in the last month
now, what am i looking for?

dave123
try the last week stick out tongue

anything that looks evil fear

The Inkeeper
Define evil stick out tongue

I am doing month, last month covers last week and before stick out tongue

dave123
anything like... porn.exe or dialer.exe stick out tongue

Clovie
and it could be located in system folder.

The Inkeeper
Nothing like that messed

Think im safe?

Raz
I think so. It might just be your ISP which is causing the disconnects. I've never heard of a virus or dialler doing that.

The Inkeeper
CermWINDOWS\SYSTEM\syswebTelecom.dll

Raz, why does it say line is busy weepweep

Raz
Thats a trojan: http://www.sophos.com/virusinfo/analyses/dialteleweba.html

Removing instructions here: http://www.sophos.com/support/disinfection/dial.html

Have you made the switch to Firefox yet? There are still unpatched secuirty holes in IE.

dave123
orroz

The Inkeeper
Im not the only one using net on here, if i switched to firefox and tried to explain.....erm

Check the analysis for any special details on removal.
Go to Start|Programs|Sophos Anti-Virus and run the Sophos Anti-Virus program.
Select the Immediate tab.
Go to Options|Configuration... select the Action tab, tick 'Infected files', select 'Delete' then click 'OK'.
Click the Go button on the toolbar to start the scan.
Delete the file.
Go back to Options|Configuration... select the Action tab, then deselect 'Infected files' and 'Delete'. Click 'OK'.
Alternatively, find the file in Explorer and press the Shift and Del keys at the same time to delete it.

I dont have sophos anti virus :/

Find it in explorer? messed

Raz
Have you updated the AVG definitions and done a full system scan?

The Inkeeper
My Avg updates everyday, soon as i come online.
So i think its safe to say its updated as much as i can get it.

I did the 'scan computer' check a few days ago, found the virus, since then it hast found anything, but the day after that i got the 'line is busy' but not since.....

Im checking just C: now, see if its there....confused

Raz
If you're still worried about a virus, then the best option would be to re-install Windows. (Maybe switch to Linux?)

If thats not possible then you'll have to go on what AVG says. Are you able to install Norton?

The Inkeeper
Not at this moment no. I would prefer the whole re-installation thing but, being a 15 year old male, my computer knowledge is highly limited. Plus, i think a switch to linux would kinda get me in trouble from....them

Tptmanno1
Firefox works just like IE
I made the switch on the family comp....
Jsut say. "IE sucks, use this for internet from now on..."
Or put a sticky note on the monitor.
