I'm confused
I don't know what I wanna become yet and I have to choose my specialized classes for next year
So far I have lawyer
Sex therapist, and no not the kind from Meet the Fockers
Advertising executive
or something like a personal shopper
I'm so freakin confused bawling
yerssot
perhaps make a list of what classes you'll have and which ones interest you the most
WindDancer
What has your school counselor suggested? Is he/she helpful or you just don't think you're getting good advise?
silver_tears
well I'm taking law next semester, and I'm also taking accounting, and art media, so that covers everything
I just don't know anymore
Like I've wanted to be a lawyer since I was like 6
but lately I dunno, things interest me more
And I'm also thinking maybe something like a archaeologist
silver_tears
The thing is with my high average I can get into any program I want
So the problem is just deciding what I wanna do first
yerssot
checked with people that studied it ? got extra info on it all?
and are you sure that what you have in mind about the job is also reality?
and I'm off... oh wait this isn't the bond-section
SlipknoT
I like to be A Herpatologist, Guitarist in a band, director, food critic, porn star, reptile breeder
silver_tears
Ive been to a bunch of career fairs and stuff
And I'm pretty sure it is, but since Ive never been one, I can't be certain
WindDancer
Hmmm....that is hard to choose. Have you thought about becoming an intern? Out of the list you provided I think Advertising executive is shortest and most likely to be in job market for quite a few years. Look into it more. You might get a degree in that career in less time.
silver_tears
Im doing a co-op next year
I think I'll decide to do it at a law firm, depending on how my law class goes next year
Dazzler619
You should choose something that you enjoy and are comfortable with. You still have a long way to go before getting a job so don't worry.
big gay kirk
Don't worry... I'm 35, and I still don't know whta to do with my life!!!
R0B
You sould like you would be good at something like designing cloths and shoes
But I really cant see you as a lawer shock
mechmoggy
Don't fret! Its normal not to have a clue ST, I fell into my career accidentally.
A4E
omg!! u havent decided yet!?!!?
i have mine decided since i was like 7 lol... i wanna study journalism but also i wanna major in languages...i lover langauges
silver_tears
Im minoring in languages
Smallville
Hunny... I am 20... almost 21... and I have no idea what the hell I want.
Evy_O
I don't think anyone can tell you which career to choose
It's something for which only you can decide, and even so, there is no way to take the absolutely "right" decision without any doubts.
Well, I'll tell you what I'd do: lawyer all the way
BackFire
Sil - You're what, 17? Of course you don't know what you want to do with your life yet. I'm almost 22 and I still don't know. There's no rush.
baracustastic
I have a masters degree in Structural Engineering. After 5 years studying it I HATE it, with a passion. I did not think carefully about choosing what to study, I honestly cannot remember why I chose Struct Eng.
I wouldn't say I wasted 5 years but I should have got much more out of them than I did.
As the old knight in "The Last Crusade" would've said, "he chose......poorly."
choose wisely young ones..........
silver_tears
what are you gonna be?
and yes, I'll be 17 in two months
SlipknoT
I thought you were 25
Silver Stardust
I for the longest time wanted to do art...until I actually got to college. One semester in and I've already changed my major to psychology. I still don't know exactly what I want to do though
Ou Be Low hoo
Don't worry about your choices now...What you choose now won't have much of an affect on what you do when you are older...You're only 16 and need to get through college and university first before you can even contemplate a career, so my advice would be choose whatever course you think you would enjoy the most and put thoughts of 'what-to-do-what-to-do' on hold.
Corran
If you continue to study law you don't necessarily have to be a lawyer, but law gives you many more options, you could work in some sort of consumer roles where you would have to understand consumer law, or Trading standards (if they have those over there), plus any other career that would benefit from an understanding and qualification in law.
I think if you go down that track you'll have more opportunities and choice of what you want to do.
silver_tears
ummm yea
Corran
Are you really?
silver_tears
no
Corran
Make your damn mind up, if you cannot even make your mind up about how old you are - and you know that - how will you ever make your mind up about a career?
silver_tears
Im 17
Corran
OK, so that's a start, hey wait I thought you were 16?
silver_tears
for like a month and a half more
Corran
But you are still 16, so you tried to deceive me by saying 17
Morning_Glory
I want to be a
1.pedatrist
2.marry a rich man and not work
3. a groupie
4. work in a call center for T-Mobile ( AGHHHH..no!)
5.a bum
6. work in a big business and be the boss of a bunch of men whip
uhhh thats it for now
Corran
Wow, that's sooo similar to my list except for point 1 I would replace with be a fireman, point 2 I would replace with become a rich man, point 3 I would replace with be a fire-engine, point 4 I would replace with be a movie star, point 5 I would change to a star and 6 would involve the whip but not the business or men. But other than that my list is almost identical in that it goes from 1 to 6.
yerssot
and what did they say there about the courses you have to take and such? still all interesting after that?
I mean, if you knew both sides of the job; cause i.e. archaeologist (sp) sounds fun when you actually do find something, the problem is you'll spend most time trying to find something to dig up...
naybean
I took this test thing and had an interview with a career person and it was the most useless thing ever - they told me i was either gonna become:
a farmer!?!?!?!
an air traffic controller
a pilot
a teacher
a social worker
a psychiatrist
I dont want to be any of those, i dont like heights, farms, brats and spending my life listening to other peoples problems doesnt appeal to me either but my friends found it quite funny. I guess your career path is just one of those things you'll stumble across by accident. I go to uni next yr to study history because i couldnt decide on a career path so just chose a subject i like instead.
Napalm
Film crtic or the guy that greases down hot super models before shoting pics
SlipknoT
dont we all
SlipknoT
Whoops
Napalm
Thats the job for me
pinsleepe
IRENE! Law studies are sooooo boring. Are you sure you'll stand it?
Alpha Centauri
People are conditioned to think that they HAVE to know what they wanna do when they "grow up" from a young age. There's a guy who works in Blockbuster Video near me and has been working there for as long as I can remember, bearing in mind I've been a member at my local one since 92. I'm pretty sure when he was a kid he didn't think "I wanna be a video store clerk".
Some people never become want they wanted to be but enjoy what they DO eventually become, alot more. I know someone who works in a music store but planned to do accounting. Is a far cry from what she planned but she enjoys her job and has a good time doing it.
Don't let it get you stressed out Tears, some people change jobs until they're 30+. My Dad has had the same job since he was 17. Now he's 53 and the best claims manager in London. My Uncle however went from working in pet stores to being a substitute teacher to being a top Safety Inspector.
Just get the grades you want to and then just do whatever takes your fancy. You don't have to enter your lifes work at 20.
-AC
SlipknoT
That just made me think of the movie Clerks
Alpha Centauri
Yes, yes it did.
-AC
Evy_O
always wanted to be a criminal record - lawyer (how are those called
) but due to certain reasons, I'm gonna be an architect
Silver Stardust
Remember that you can always change your major, Irene, if you decide you like something better
silver_tears
Thats just it, that job is kinda out, cause really how much more is there to find
And I took those tests things, but they dont narrow it down at all, they say my options are open
But yes, I know which courses I have to take in uni, but they all sounds pretty impressive
yerssot
it depends, for all anyone knows there might still be a lot... so I take you'll drop that one then?
nono, I don't mean the tests, I mean, if you have checked what subjects you'll get and if those interest you at all or not
impressive-good or impressive-bad?
silver_tears
impressive as in good
really interesting, specially law and the therapist approach
yerssot
so you're leaning to the lawyer-idea then?
Lara
Ai, Lady! I still dont know what I'm gonna do for a living when I leave college in july so I'm buggard!
silver_tears
what kind of law do you study?
silver_tears
actually Im leaning toward the therapist idea
on the advice of my teachers and friends
yerssot
then go for that one if you like it
silver_tears
well thanks for your help
yerssot
I didn't do anything but I accept visa, mastercard, american express and diners club
silver_tears
Tough luck sweet cheeks
you're not getting a penny winkiss
silver_tears
Sorry, I'm all out
Btw I'm taking classes
To limit my choices droolio
yerssot
so, what is it limited to now?
Jackie Malfoy
I am aiming to be a writter a fiction one. After high school go to collage and see if you can get a degee on something that you might like and go for it.
That is the only advice I can think of to give to you.JM
peterKSL
I think becoming a philosopher is not bad.. right?
silver_tears
All of the above
Corran
I think he meant what will it be limited to when you take the classes to limit your choices
silver_tears
I've decided to take said classes, don't know which ones yet
yerssot
well, that limited it down
when will you take those?
silver_tears
some time soon, spring time
Corran
Irene - what's wrong with being a chocolatiere as a career?
