I have an option of moving to Catholic school. But what benefits doI have there. Should i stay in Public school? In P. School i get distracted and screw and round and my grades are shi* so should i go there and be able to get my shi* straight?

silver_tears
Ive been going to catholic school my whole life, I have a 94 average, not bragging, but I personally think the academic expectations of a catholic school are higher, here anyways.

I love it here too yes
They also offer alot of extra courses and such big grin

Stealth Agent
yea but theres lotta smart ppl in my public school.....actually only a few wat about other ppl in your school? Whats the percentage of smart ppl and such

silver_tears
well out of 200 grade 11's or so, there's 75 or so with an 80 average or so stick out tongue

Stealth Agent
better grades then but what about the ppl there are they stuckup? my cuz told me at his private school they are

silver_tears
Not that I know of, it's kinda a priveledged school though and everyone is kinda the same erm
The uniforms alone are very expensive for it no expression

KharmaDog
Maybe the grades are higher because the marking is a little more liberal. Just a thought. You make of your education what you make of it. Wherever you go it will always remain if you study harder you get better grades.

I never attended catholic school, so my experience is limited. I did however date quite a few girls from catholic school while I was in public school, and I have to admit they must've been teaching the girls at the catholic school a different curriculum than they did at the public school if you know what I mean. wink

Jedi Priestess
ROTFLMAO!!!!! hysterical

Grading scale at the Catholic high school I teach at, which btw is an accredited college prep school, if you score a 94 on a test you are already in the B range. Score in the low 80's and you've bought yourself a D. Anything below 71% is an F.

now make way for all the flaming thats sure to follow about religious schools period. yes

Afro Cheese
That sounds incredibly hard Jedi. Anyway I never been to a private school so I can't tell you which is better... but I can say that class size and school size matters. For me at least. The school I went to in 9th grade was only about 1000 or so kids and I was doing good. Then I moved back down to Florida, and down here my school is like 3000+ kids.. and it's a lot harder to keep up with my grades. It's just so easy to get distracted. So if the private school which you can go to is much smaller (which it probably is) it could help you.

A4E
other than the fact that they teach me catholicism its great... there r many extraprogramatic classes... teachers r usually old laughing out loud he have big ass librarys etc

KharmaDog
Wow! Hard to believe that a grading scale can be so different than almost every other college, university or highschool in north america. What school is it at the you teach? I would love to research the placement of students and their successes at university. They must be astounding.

Draco69
I've been to a Catholic school. It's overrated. The education is the same. The teachers do get payed less though. My Catholic school was very sheltered and very ignorant of the real world. They distorted a lot of facts to bolster their Catholic faith. Science was not taught well. We learned about animals and stuff, but biology was out of the question (they don't like evolution). They also had several programs that poorly addressed teenage issues. "If you have sex before marriage you go to hell." "Homosexuality is a sin. You'll go to hell (I felt sorry for Larry since he was gay. He had to listen to this everyday)." Abortion is a sin. You'll go to hell." Sex was poorly explained. "Don't do it till you are married." No discussion. Just that. Several books were banned because it was considered anti-christ. Harry Potter, When the Caged Bird Sings, and 1984 are a few books that were banned. Martin Luther King was not celebrated because, as my history teacher said, "his contributions to America aren't that important to have a day off." All in all, it was a poor environment for me. Ironically enough three of my classmates got pregnant. One had an abortion. Two kept the babies. Chrissa Yatel got scabies. We never learned about condoms or other forms of protection. Larry became clinically depressed. I don't know what happened to him. I really hope he is ok. Of our 50 students that supposedly had better education and better teachers, only 6 went to college. I went to Drew (I transfered to Cornell). The others went to Fairleigh Dickinson, Rutgers and Marist.

This was just my experience. I don't mean to offend or belittle anyone else on this board.

This was just my experience. I don't mean to offend

A4E
thats not wut my catholic school was like!
teachers were the same i learned about evolution, etc. u proly went to a nuns school roll eyes (sarcastic)

BackFire
The best thing about Catholic schools are all of the girls with the catholic school girl outfit.

Draco69
Actually I went to a K-8 Catholic school. I'm a guy so I can't be a nun. I'm glad your Catholic school was more modern than mine.

Draco69
The skirts were not allowed either sad

unknownrocker
Private schools are alot easier to get better grades in by my experience

SlipknoT
Public school is much better, less strict and no stupid uniforms.

BackFire
Well then what the **** is the point of even going to a catholic school, everyone knows the skirts are the driving force behind choosing to attend.

Draco69
Uh...unity with God and Jesus and stuff? embarrasment

Jedi Priestess
I dont give that information out, but I can tell you that at our school, there are 278 students and
An approx. Faculty to student ratio of 1:11 with an average of 15-20 students per class
Student ACT scores higher than state and national averages with a 28 test score
Nearly 94% of graduates go on to post secondary education
Average scholarships are over 350,000 per year.

Does that help? And yes it IS hard but they are very well prepared for college. Alot of high school kids take Spanish for their foriegn language....over half of ours take Latin or Germ an.

SlipknoT
I'm taking German, and it sucks sad

Draco69
Spanish all the way baby! rock It's more useful. In America anyway.

KidRock
yeah becuase no one speaks english in America anymore.

SlipknoT
You should be required to speak english if you live in america

Ou Be Low hoo
Benefits of Catholic Schools?

Former Catholic School Girls...if you've never experienced one, you won't know what I'm talking about...

Silver Stardust
28 ACT average? DAMN. National average is like 19 no expression (I got a 32 stick out tongue)

EVERYONE in my high school took Spanish...there were 8 people in my AP German class. Talk about tiny.

I went to public school, so I don't know too much about Catholic schools...a few of my friends went to Catholic school, though.

BackFire
Psh, **** that.

Syren
OMFG laughing out loud

I actually find myself opening threads where you're the last poster just to see what you've written embarrasment At least I'm not doing the post search on you yet roll eyes (sarcastic)

Stealth Agent

Clovie
i've graduated catholic school..
and how to say it..
it wasn't much different from public ones..
we just had more classes, but no uniforms or anything

Stealth Agent
its a uniform school and the skirts are short i hear and i hear its great when there walking up the steps and your behind them you get a nice view

Jackie Malfoy
You are supose to learn more in a cathloic school then a public school but even if I wanted to go there I can't.Because Cathloic schools don't have special classes.
They should but they don't.So that is one thing that a Cathloic school does not have that a public school does.JM

finti
cant find any

Julie
I went to a private school...they're generally nice and small and yet active enough so you don't get bored....grades are stressed so you should do better....overall it just depends on the person

Jedi Priestess
bite me Fin stick out tongue

Id say having me as your teacher would be one eek! laughing out loud

KharmaDog
Special classes?

amity75
Benefits of a catholic school? You learn utter contempt for all other faiths (Any other faith now becomes "non catholic"wink and spend your life being ruled by a legal mafia who reside in the vatican, the most corrupt state on earth. Oh, and you'll no doubt get sexually abused by priests as well. (Though the caring vatican will cover that up).

finti
having me as a student would be the opposite of benefit

Jedi Priestess
No doubt. laughing out loud

And amity75, can you BE any more full of it??

amity75
When it comes to the subject of catholicism and catholic schools then yes, I can.

Jedi Priestess
Someone had a bad experience.....cry

Napalm, you are on your final warning. Give it a rest.

Napalm
sad

amity75
Actually yes I did.

Jedi Priestess
I can understand your feelings of bitterness, but that does not make all Catholics or priests evil. Nothing in this world is absolute. I am sorry for your pain tho. sad

amity75
I attended a catholic school. Every Monday the priest would come into the class and ask who did or did not attend mass on the Sunday. Of course he always seemed to know who didn't go before even asking and the ones who didn't go (and I'm talking about 13 year old kids here) would be brought to the front of the class and have their heads held under a cold water tap. Also at weekly assembly we would be told by the headmaster not to associate with the "animals" from the surrounding "non-catholic" schools. ie protestant schools. Some of my best friends attended those schools and anyone who socialised with other "nons" were victimised by the visiting priests. There was an instance onetime where all the secondary schools in Scotland were having fund raising days to raise money for the Ethiopian famine and my school and many otyher catholic schools refused to take part because some of the funds would be used to supply contraceptives to these unfortunate people.
I completely agree with you JP that not all catholics and priests are evil and many peoples lives are improved by the faith that the catholic church brings them but for myself and countless others a catholic upbringing is a thoroughly miserable experience. The world would be a better place if kids were allowed to wait and make their own minds up as to which faith they choose to follow instead of being brainwashed (quite a harsh term but thats basically what it comes down to) at such an early age by one particular religion.

Jedi Priestess
Precisely why my youngest daughter is being brought up in my faith and the faith of her father, so she can make her own choice when the time is right.

Amity I feel for you, I went to Catholic grade school and then Catholic high school and we didnt have any incidents like what you describe. Someone should have turned your school in to the Bishop and failing that, the law.

SlipknoT
Amitty, you should have punched the priest and gotten expelled

Jedi Priestess
Yeah thats always the best course of action Slip. Are you really this way in real life? If so, I feel sorry for you.

Capt_Fantastic
I went to catholic school my entire life. There are benefits to the environment. Less distractions for the outter world. You also look younger because facial hair and hip clothing are not allowed. We used to go out to the mall after school and all the public school kids looked so much older. We looked like middle school students.

But, as much as I hated my catholic school experience, I would not be the lovable, arrogant, upper class ******* I am today. So, take that for what you will.

If your parents want you to go for the religious aspect of it, then they are fooling themselves. The best way to get your child to resent the catholic church, send them to catholic school. That is assuming you are capable of thinking for yourself.

SlipknoT
What are you saying?

Capt_Fantastic
That you talk out of your ass....

SlipknoT
Oh no, I got suspended in 8th grade for punching my gym teacher.

Capt_Fantastic
That's why she feels sorry for you.

SlipknoT
Why would that make someone feel sorry for me?

Capt_Fantastic
I think her point is that you give into impulse, rather than think your way out of a situation...and then pat yourself on the back for your own lack of foresight.

Jedi Priestess
Indeed Captain....thats exactly what I am saying. yes Hit first and ask questions later is not the way to a happy life.

SlipknoT
confused

Silver Stardust
It will eventually land you in a lot of trouble, as I myself have found out messed

SlipknoT
What did you do?

Silver Stardust
I've never done anything really big, but just lots of little stupid things have turned out to cause a lot more trouble than it was worth. Problem is, when I'm madly I simply don't think before acting/speaking. I nearly got suspended last year though.

Tptmanno1
ohh,
its STORYTIME!!!
Do tell alana....

I must say though, If I were put in a catholic school tommrow, I would either cause hell, go insane, or both,
(that is providing im not insane now..)

Silver Stardust
Stefan, you are without a doubt already insane stick out tongue

Okay...

Well, I'll cut the story very short because it's quite long. To put it short, someone who had very much gotten on my bad side decided that he was going to act like everything was okay and sit with my friends and myself at lunch, and after I ignored him for 10 minutes decided to ask me if I was still mad at him. I sorta snapped and verbally ripped him to little pieces and nearly punched him embarrasment however I noticed a teacher that was nearby was watching with quite a bit of interest (probably waiting for the fight to turn physical) so I managed to stop myself because I would have been suspended if I had punched him...but not without telling him to get out of my sight and that if he ever came me or my friend Michelle again I wouldn't restrain myself. This was a year ago and he's still terrified of me today.

SlipknoT
I was just supended for breaking a meter stick over this kids face embarrasment

Tptmanno1
lol,
I would be too!

finti
what about a choice of no religion then? cool

Napalm
If I was a kid and I was being sent to catholic school Id run away

Napalm
Not true, violence is the best approache

Jedi Priestess

finti

Napalm
Im a grandmaster in kick boxing so no Im usually the wrong dude

pinsleepe
Catholic schools are definitely overrated erm There is only one in my city. You know, a few houndred years tradition, "great reputation" and stuff like that. The fact is, level of education is pretty crappy: it's on 10th rating position. Anyway, I know it must look a little different in USA.

finti
aint much of a grandmaster if you see violence as best approach

Napalm
Run children, guard your backsides. Here comes the catholic pervert priest
