Aku
Why is their both these forums? They are pretty much the same?

Corran
General discussion is for when you want to discuss something and you want to remain on that subject as much as possible, if it goes outside of the subject too much, or hits 100 posts and is not on subject (which is the old rules for threads) then it will be closed or moved to the OTF.

The OTF is basically open for random subjects to be discussed and you are allowed more leeway on going of topic etc.

General Discussion is supposed to be thought-provoking, intelligent discussion about various topics.

Off-Topic requires no brain to be able to successfully participate.

Corran
That's a little harsh, sometimes the OTF required thought on some subjects, but if you want it to remain more serious and on topic then the GD is the place to be.

Aku
Well put actually. True but when we have specialised topic forums like music/philisophy etc why do we need a general forum?

Silver Stardust
There are some subjects that don't necessarily fall into one specific topic.

I post in both a lot, GDF is always good for a debate, while the OTF is just general silliness.

This has already been discussed in News and Questions forum.

General Discussion forum is for serious current debates - an ''on topic'' discussions.

Off Topic forum is general randomness that would not fit anywhere else.

Closing.
