In my Philosophy class a few days ago, the girls on my table were discussing the interpretation of God as an interventionist. One, Jess, mused that perhaps this is the Day of Rest. As time is a relative concept, the day of an eternal being could account for thousands of our years.
We began discussing the possibility that - making the assumption that there is an omnipotent creator god - the millennia leading up to the establishment of the human race could represent the days of creation, now this age we live in is part of the day of rest in which there can be little divine intervention. (By this point we had moved to discussion of the reason for tragedy in the world).
Of course, this suggests more than a little embellishment in the Bible, but that depends on whether you see the text as something to be taken literally or symbolically.
Anyhaps, what are your views; is this the day of rest?
