just thought i'd post a thread to recommend this magnificent author to all of you if you havent already heard of him

he was written

empire of the sun
crash
high-rise
cocaine nights
the drowned world
the voices of time
the terminal beach
the drought
the crystal world
the venus hunters
the disaster area
the atrocity exhibition
vermillion sands
concrete island
low-flying aircraft
the unlimited dream company
hello america
myths of the near future
running wild
the day of creation
war fever
the kindness of women
rushing to paradise
a user's guide to the millenium

ive read most of those and would recommend highly the first 4 novels...the shortest one and easiest to get into would be high-rise...which is absolutely brilliant

my other favourite authors are

Brett Easton Ellis (american psycho, the rules of attraction, glamorama, less than zero)

Irvine Welsh ( trainspotting, porno, the maribou stork nightmares, ecstacy, acid house)

and douglas coupland (generation x)

Brett Easton Ellis (read the confidents scares you to death)

and douglas coupland (great but He doesn't give us complex histories, He propose great concept or terms instead)

Check what i have read
About James

Did you miss "the day of forever"? Did you see Crash?
Martin Amis (another one I recommend along with Burroughs) told that perhaps Ballard wrote books that anyone could have ever wrote.

I am waiting to read all of his works (lot of money required) to chose a favourite.

I first read Hello America, in fact I looked down or was "afraid" to came close to such a sordid subject at the public library(distopia involving a dammed Earth) and later (and recently) I pick it. Later I buy the day of creation for 1.5 dollars and move quickly with the rest of the list.

If his portraits or distopias became real, well we are all living just for a few time.

Did you realize that Coupland briefly argue about the ground zero situations?

BTW I posted a similar thread with Amis and Ballard together
