the manga tells you more about the story/characters (its a lot deeper stuff, more interesting too).

Manga equals books. Comic books. Simple as that.
Anime is usually the manga brought to "life". That's the way I see it. Yeah, you lose some of the depth and the story once a manga is put to anime, but it still makes it super cool!
