This is from a comic book scan I found on MF.com. If you notice, in the comic a rebuilt Darth Maul comes across Anakin's body in a search for Obi-Wan...behind him is an imperial shuttle. This raises alot of questions I think, since we also see Grievous - part living - part machine in Episode III and of course Darth Vader at the end of the movie. Is there some connection? Were Maul and Grievous Palpatine's first attempts? On a side note...this same picture reveals the death of Watto.

Makes no sense really. I assume Maul is after Obi-Wan? Well, asking Watto isn't the way to go then because they never met. And no, Maul is not in Ep3.

Yeah...I agree...I think it is better that Maul should be dead. But if they want to bring him back in the comic for one last battle with Obi-Wan...so be it.

Maul will not be in Episode III, and I wouldn't consider that "EU-canon", probably more akin to the TALES Comics.

As far as why Maul questions Watto it makes sense when you think about it...

Maul goes to Polis Massa and find a medical log which shows that Padme and Anakin had children and probably mentions Obi-Wan. So Maul finds out more about Anakin and discovers that he was once a slave to Watto on Tatooine.

Edit: He probably knew Anakin was Obi-Wan's former apprentice and knew enough to know where to look if he wanted to find Luke and also Obi-Wan.

Again, it has been repeatedly confirmed by GL and LFL that Maul is not in Episode III, though the Comic is very cool....
As far as "normal EU" goes, Maul died in TPM.

Yeah but it would do no good to question Watto about it because he's never heard of Obi-Wan before.

Lucas had said he intentionally showed Maul being sliced in half, in order to show that he was indeed dead, and would never come back. Cool concept, but better left alone, imo. Could be another cloaked man.

NO NO NO.. even the page you posted contradicts the thought that Maul might be included.... He kills the Polis Massans? THey come in at the END of the movie! Watto? The only way Watto could possibly know about Obi is after Obi arrives on Tatoine and thats the last friggin shot of the movie!!

If he was in the movie I would expect it to be a very quick flash to him on Mustafar with Palpatine arriving...just a nod to EU fans or something. Really this may be the first picture that shows what Anakin looks like after his accident on Mustafar!

ok man, YOU started the thread and didnt notice that the page you got this from said this happens 3 years AFTER Ep3? Well if you read it, it would have answered your question and you wouldnt have had to make this thread....

now, has it occured that maul might NOT be looking for Obiwan? he goes straight for owen's homestead, for luke. he woulda gone to watto to find out about where owen is.

This page is called a flashback - in other words this is Maul relating to Obi-Wan what he had to go through in his seach to find Maul...and no Anakin did not stay on Mustafar rotting for 3 years before Palpatine discovered him. I'm gonna post the whole comic in my next post so everyone can read it from start to finish...OK?

This is a comic from the upcoming Visionaries book. I am greatly anticipating it's release...especially after reading THAT.

The comic was an enjoyable premise, but it's definitely not cannon. For instance, a very small Watto is in the tatooine scene on the ROTJ DVD.

It's not even official EU. Its' from "Visionaries" and "infinities" section - which deals with "what if something new/something ele happened" storylines Most EU fans treat these are trash, naturally. Only the most dedicated who could buy anything that has to do with Star Wars, are fans of the infinities comics.

one thing i really hate about some people who are obsessed with eu is that some treat it like george lucas made it himself and they conflict eu with the movies

the only problem i have with eu, is kashyyyk. kotor made it so wonderful, then to see it in ep3, made me feel like kicking GL, even though ep3 kashyyyk is 'real' and kotor is 'fake'.

why put kashyyyk in kotor if its not even how it looks? couldnt they have waited?

I thought I'd go ahead and post the General Grievous origin comic as well. This was posted at the mf.com forums. I actually like this one. It proves that he was an experiment that proves useful to Sidious when he creates Darth Vader. That is...IF this comic is really how Grievous comes to be.

On the contrary, I'm a big EU fan, and I love Tales and Infinities simply because they can do things with the stories that wouldn't be possible to do otherwise. For example, there is a story in Tales about Vader fighting a reincarnated Maul to see who is really deserving of being the Emperor's apprentice. Of course that could never actually happen, but it's an interesting premise that easily answers questions that would be debated here otherwise.

I second that opinion. I like the idea of "What if Luke had died, and Leia became the Jedi..?" or they failed to destroy the Death Star. Wonderful things that they can't do in the movies.

The last comic there dealing with Kashyyyk made me wonder something crucial to Star Wars. Why does anyone give a rat's ass about Kashyyyk? Is it going to turn the tide of the Clone Wars? What use is it to Palpatine?

The whole premise of the visionairies book is that they wanted to showcase the work of some of the most skilled concept artists that worked on ROTS. Some of the stories interact with or lead up to events in the movies because these guys came up with these back stories for Lucas when they submitted character designs. Maul as a half cyborg was a concept they were kicking around but ditched. Lucas had asked the art dept. for a cyborg like character to help introduce the same technology that would be used to save Anakin and make Vader. They ended up tossing the cyborg Maul for General Grievous. GG's origin story in the Visionaires book is what the art dept. and Lucas used as his back story when fleshing out the character. This origin was also referenced in the novel Labrynth of Evil. But aside from that story, the rest are essentially what if?'s to show the artists work, not add to star wars as a whole. Enjoy the art, because these are usually the under appreciated and less famous artists. This book is to let them get a bit more in the public eye.

that was a what if comic in Star Wars Tales which, until recently, wasn't even EU canon. Its just what if's. LIke the Maul story in Visionaires.

yeah seriously, Maul was awesome. Double bladed saber, war paint, horns, attitude, and those freakin' contacts the actor wore!

I was just amazed at the Obi/QJ/Maul duel. There were always duels in the OT, but that one was AMAZING!!! Only problem was it was too short. Ray Park was awesome as Maul I thought....

Yeah you could see that Ray had real skills unlike the other actors.

i dunno about that, he had a voice actor. he was only there for his moves, which he did phenomenally. But i wouldn't put him higher than Liam Neeson, Ewan McGregor, Ian McDermid or Hayden or just about anyone else.

I think he means martial arts skills, not acting..

Wow this is very interesting stuff. I've heard alot of bullshit about Maul coming back and it used to really piss me off. I didnt want SW to turn into Friday The 13th where Jason keeps coming back; this is not the way for SW, but i have to admit, its very well put together story that makes alot of sense
