George Lucas Attends Celebration 3

StarWars.Com reports that George Lucas will be making an ulrta-rare convention appearance in Indianapolis at the Celebration 3 event. Hopefully he won't tell everyone to "Get a Life!". ComingSoon.Net will be there reporting.

The Emperor Speaks

Ian McDiarmid was interviewed by Sci-Fi Wire. Of course he had a couple of comments about Revenge of the Sith:

Ian McDiarmid, who plays Emperor Palpatine in the upcoming Star Wars: Episode III—Revenge of the Sith, offered SCI FI Wire spoilerish details about his mysterious and malevolent character, who rivals Darth Vader as the most evil character in the saga. "I think the Emperor is the incarnation of evil, and he's only really interested in power and manipulation," McDiarmid said in an interview. "Nothing else gives him any pleasure. He's a Sith from way back, and they don't have a moral universe. They want to create power for themselves by destroying others. It's very interesting to play a character that is irredeemable. There are even real people that have that kind of motiveless malignancy. It's like watching Milosevic, somebody that only seems interested in power and manipulation."

Which Line Is It, Mann?

It's the biggest Star Wars scandal since the Star Wars Kid. You may have heard the national coverage about how fans are lined up at Mann's Chinese Theater in Hollywood....and the theater isn't even showing the film. You can see the full history of the affair from the first forum post to the national media attention at TheForce.Net.

Premiere Covers ROTS

You can get a sneak peek at Premiere's Revenge of the Sith coverage over at Rebelscum.Com

Star Wars Fans Gone Wild

Over at NYLine.Org they have a fun video chronicling the Midnight Madness event that took place at the Times Square Toys R Us last weekend. Check it out!

Now I've Seen Everyting

Just in case you think you've seen Star Wars stamped on every product imaginable....think again. Rebelscum points readers to an image of Star Wars toilet paper. I'm not making this up, and no, Jar Jar isn't printed on it. On a slightly more highbrow note, you can also buy wine from Skywalker Ranch. Details are at TheForce.Net.

On the Star Wars Website when you click "The Movies" you get a link to each movie, and each one has a picture in it. Episode III STILL has a picture of George Lucas and some other guy. What the hell?

Boris
The other guy is the producer, Rick McCallum, They'll probably change it come May 19th..

I thought this was the Master Windu appreciation thread?

Christensen Wants to Escape Darth's Shadow
Tuesday April 12 2:52 PM ET

Hayden Christensen isn't worried he'll get typecast as Darth Vader the way the villain's two kids did. Christensen figures times have changed since the original "Star Wars" trilogy, which hampered the careers of Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher because they were so associated with the roles of Darth's children, Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia.

"I haven't had that problem so far," said Christensen. Since being cast as since he was cast as Anakin Skywalker, the future Vader, he has starred in two smaller character pieces, "Life as a House" and "Shattered Glass," and in an upcoming adaptation of Boccaccio's "The Decameron."

"I think it's a little dated, to be honest, the whole typecast thing," Christensen recently told The Associated Press. "I think 20 years ago, 30 years ago, there was only one blockbuster that came out every few years, and so audiences got such a strong association with the actor and the role in the film. Now, there's four or five a summer."

Christensen was plucked from relative obscurity by George Lucas to star as the teenage Anakin in "Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones."

With "Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith," debuting May 19, Lucas brings the Skywalker saga full circle as Anakin takes the final steps to the dark side and puts on the black Vader suit fans fondly recall from the first trilogy.

While he believes he can avoid becoming typecast, Christensen expects Darth Vader always will be the role for which audiences will best remember him.

"Obviously, it's a very iconic role, so I think inevitably that will always be the strongest association," Christensen said. "I'm happy about that, to sort of always be remembered as Darth. That's what people come up to me and shake my hand for. That's cool."

eh....he said IF George chooses to do so. The only thing that has me thinking is "alot bloodier.'' i wonder how that will play into it.

DarkYoda
Well...what's interesting to me is that he says it almost as if he and George had discussed it. But it is probably in the same manner that George mentioned to Mark Hamill the idea of doing 7,8,9 back around the time of ROTJ.

Prod
posted at TFN:

"Ian McDiarmid summary

Q: How did Ian get the role in a Star Wars movie, and how did
it all begin for him?
A: Ian got a call from his agent, and said that a car was
coming for him to pick him up to see George Lucas and Richard
Marquand during their lunch break while they were filming ROTJ.
They talked, but Star Wars didn't even come up in the
conversation.

When Ian got home from lunch, he got a call from his agent,
telling him he got the part of the emperor of the universe, and
of course, he accepted the part. Ian's says on hearing the
title of the part, "Oh, we'll be doing it then. (laughs)"

The casting director for Star Wars had recently seen Ian in a
play playing a very old man. (So that's how he assumes Lucas
heard about him).

At the time, Ian hadn't seen Empire Strikes Back, so he didn't
know exactly what he had gotten himself into.

He endured makeup tests about three weeks before filming.

The first scene he filmed was Palpatine coming off the Imperial
Shuttle. He did about two takes and we see the final result in
the movie.

Q: Describe the back-story of Palpatine
A: The only thing he knew was that he was very old, he ran the
universe, and Darth Vader worked for him.

He character came from the face. And from the face, emerged the
voice. Ian had no idea that his voice may or may not be used
for the final film. He was given the voice of the Emperor from
ESB, and was told to try to match it, or make it close.

George told Ian that he liked the voice, and told him to work on
it.

Q: Ian had no idea that he'd be returning to play a part in the
prequels, how did he feel about that?
A: During "Jedi" there was a rumor that Lucas had 9 films in
his head. Ian never thought "in a million years" that he would
be part of the early story about Darth Vader. He figured they
would just get a younger actor.

He got word years later (20 years) that Lucas was going to do
the prequels. So they met in London and they had a drink; Ian
orders a water, and George says to Ian, "Do you know anybody
that wants to play an Emperor?". Ian says, "Funny you should
say that." And George says, "Ok, you can give the water back."

Lucas told him about two people that might merge into one. It
was mostly a story about how a senator became an emperor.

The only reason it happened this way was because Ian was the
right age for the first prequel. The wonderful paradox -
"playing myself when young at my own age". He said we'll found
out that the Emperor is 120 or 110, (obviously referring to in
ROTS that we'll find out how old the Emperor is, and then tack
on the number of years to equal the age of 120 or 110 in ROTJ).

Q: Did his theater experience help him in any way?
A: Everything helps especially when you get older. He's not
sure if his experience has impacted his Star Wars performance.
He has played villains before, so he had ease with his role in
Star Wars.

Q: How did his fellow theater peers react to his involvement
with Star Wars?
A: They were extremely jealous.

He goes on to say that since then he's been very busy with other
things, he had retired from theater and put all his energy in
the last prequel, which made sense since he is a big part of the
third one.

He spends three months in Sydney, which he said was wonderful.
It was a thicker script, and he finally gets to publicly come
out with his character that has been hidden for so long, while
at the same time corrupting a young Jedi.

Q: What did Ian think the connection of Palpatine and Sidious
was, and how should the audience react to them?
A: He says the audience will react the way they react, and he's
not out to manipulate them.

He didn't know they were connected until he received the script.
He was on a need to know basis, and Lucas never told him. Liam
Neeson ask Ian, "Why didn't you tell me you were playing Darth
Sidious as well?" And Ian said, "I really didn't know 'til the
last minute and I didn't want to spread it about."

Q: What was Ian's reaction to wielding a lightsaber and
actually fighting?
A: He was furious to see that Chris Lee got to use the
lightning. He thought it was his prerogative. He was surprised
that he had two fights. His character was supposed to be the
fastest swordsman in the universe. He wondered how they would
accomplish this and he was given a stunt double/master
swordsman to do most of the fighting, but Ian was there for the
close-ups and had his do what fighting he could because Lucas
wanted the actor in there as much as possible. Ian said he saw
a bit of the finished product of him fighting, and he's
convinced.

Q: Describe the physical aspects of his character role in ROTS
A: Ian was relieved that he had some physical things to do and
that Palpatine wasn't just an intellectual. He was surprised that
he was involved in the big action sequence in the beginning of
the film. Ian comments, "Everything in the film is practically
my plot." and that he really don't need to be rescued. But, all
in all, he did his enjoy his experience and loved sliding down
chutes at various speeds bumping into Hayden and Ewan, and
laughing with them off camera.

Q: How did the events in ROTS effect his relationship with
Hayden?
A: Because of Palpatine's seduction of Anakin, they had a close
relationship since they shared each other's moments on screen.
The dialogue scenes between them were done at the same pace of
the fighting. The head stuff was just as important and
physical, as the physical elements were during a fight.

Q: What is Ian's opinion on who's to blame for Anakin's fall?
A: "It's a fall of a tragic hero." He falls because of his fatal
flaw. Part of what makes Anakin who his is, is his character
flaw. His flaw can be attributed by what happens to his mother,
and the absence of a father figure in his life. This can be
seen in Jake's performance in first movie and Hayden's
performance in AOTC. It really isn't straight forward or
obvious for the audience because it's not really supposed to be.

Ian said that a number of people didn't understand what was
going on because they were looking for "Luke 2." But Anakin
isn't Luke 2, he's Anakin 1. Coupled with the tragedies of his
life; Anakin's nature is his need for power. Palpatine sees
this and exploits it. Anakin could go one way of the other, but
he goes towards the dark. Ian says that it could have gone the
other way, the way of the light, but he doesn't and that's not
Palpatine's fault.

Q: What went wrong in ROTJ?
A: Ian speculated that maybe he wasn't really dead, but Lucas
said, "Yeah he's dead."

Ian figured he would have died anyway, since he was very old,
and Vader was old too, so he needed Luke, he need fresh blood,
but it doesn't work out for Palpatine.

Luke's refusal to Palpatine, coupled with Darth Vader's actions
lead to the end of the Emperor.

Q: What's the secret to Star Wars's long success?
A: Star Wars is a great myth. And myths last forever because
of their interpretation and re-interpretation. It's a myth for the
20th/21st century. Generations to come will want to see this
film because it's a movie about generations, fathers and sons,
strengths and difficulties of those relationships, and using
good things we have to make things better and controlling the bad
things that happen as not to make things worse.

---

It's a great interview, because they just let Ian speak. Most of the interviews today, the interviewer grabs onto something the interviewee says, and takes him onto a different tangent. They were good questions and Ian answered them to the best of the ability with personal experience, facts, humor and his love and appreciation for Star Wars and all those that were involved.

This summary does not do justice to Ian at all. If you get the chance, I highly recommend that you actually sitting down, listen and watch Ian speak. It is quite wonderful and enjoyable. "

LandoSpeeder2
Sorry if this is old news

From iesb.net -

Lucas referred to Clone Wars as a pilot. He confirmed that the animated series will continue as a 3D animated half hour version and will be a regular TV series.

Also, he is working on a live action series that spins off from the films that doesn't incude the main characters but is about characters that we already know.

He plans to begin filming in a year. He wants to get all the scripts written for the first season all at once and then go out and shoot them.

Lucas will get it started, hire all the showrunners and then back away from it.

Following this format, there will be multiple directors, multiple writers so we are in for a ride! The future of Star Wars looks bright.

The Heart of Darthness

This is the big one. The one that ties it all together. The one that will finally reveal how a pouty young space hero named Anakin Skywalker grew up to become Darth Vader, the biggest, most bodacious badass in movie history.

Star Wars: Episode III — Revenge of the Sith, the sixth and final installment in George Lucas' intergalactic saga, will land in theaters May 19. A total of 20,000-plus prints will allow the film to open simultaneously in the United States and dozens of other countries. Audience response is expected — make that guaranteed — to be seismic since, 28 years after the release of the original Star Wars, this universe created by Lucas is far more than eye-dazzling, heart-pumping entertainment. It is now part of our collective mythology. It is the lore of the masses.

"The fans feel a real sense of ownership with Star Wars, almost like they consider it public domain, so their expectations for this final film are huge... scary huge," says Hayden Christensen, who played Anakin in both Sith and its 2002 prequel, Star Wars: Episode II — Attack of the Clones. The 24-year-old Canadian heartthrob, a virtual unknown when Lucas hired him, says he "got goose bumps" when he read the script for Sith. Christensen goes so far as to call it "great art," but he also concedes that the challenge of pleasing Lucas' devoted but persnickety fan base is "daunting and terrifying."

He's got good reason to feel that way: Lucas seduced the world with his first trilogy, Star Wars: Episode IV — A New Hope (1977), Star Wars: Episode V — The Empire Strikes Back (1980) and Star Wars: Episode VI — Return of the Jedi (1983). But the grand master appeared to have lost his flash when, after a 16-year hiatus, he launched the first of three prequels. Star Wars: Episode I — The Phantom Menace (1999) was a massive moneymaker, but many hard-core loyalists found the film lacking in the soul and spirit they'd come to love and thought it way too kid-friendly. They especially hated that blathering, all-digital nuisance Jar Jar Binks.

Attack of the Clones didn't impress them much, either. And Christensen, who kowtowed to Lucas' direction and displayed no hints of the Vader to come, gave a performance so wooden it ranked right up there with Walt Disney's Pinocchio. But the actor has no regrets. "Every minute detail is pre-thought out by George, and I was only there to help him realize his vision," he says. "By the time we got to , I understood why he had me hold back. So will the audience."

Even Christopher Lee, who returns in Sith as Anakin's sardonic foe Count Dooku, was willing to give up creative control. "This is not like doing Hamlet, where one brings along one's own interpretation," says the 82-year-old Lee, a veteran of more than 200 films. "I do whatever George asks... well, except for backward somersaults. I have total faith in him."

That sentiment seems to be going around. "Everybody wants this to be a great film — everybody," says Entertainment Tonight film critic Leonard Maltin. "There is a lot of hope riding on Sith — hope that it will redeem the errors of the past and hope that it will send the series out with a bang." Even the snarkiest fans are thinking nice thoughts, according to Joshua Griffin, co-owner of TheForce.net, a popular Star Wars website. "With the last two films, they got more and more worried with each photo or bit of information that was released," Griffin says. "They were saying, 'Has Lucas lost his mind?'" Not so with Sith. "The fan community has taken a big breath and relaxed," claims Griffin. "They sense that Lucas got it right this time."

Maybe that's because the faithful already know a lot about Episode III, thanks in part to a movie novelization released in early April that lays bare the hush-hush screenplay.

The film, which boasts such icons as C-3P0, R2-D2 and Chewbacca, must sync up with major events in the original Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. In the new installment, the Republic will crumble and Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid) will become the evil Emperor of the galaxy. Most of the Jedi population will die, as does Anakin's secret wife, Padmé Amidala (Natalie Portman). Twins Luke and Leia will be born and separated. Yoda (Frank Oz) will go into hiding. And, of course, Sith happens: After a climactic lightsaber battle with his ex-best friend Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor), Anakin will emerge so disfigured and dismembered that he must don the famous life-support Vader suit in order to survive.

Knowing all these preordained twists isn't likely to ruin anyone's good time— in fact, it'll probably put even more butts in the seats. "Sith is the film people yearned for Episode I to be," says Rick McCallum, Lucas' longtime right-hand man and one of the film's producers. "They weren't interested in seeing Anakin as a little boy in I or falling in love in II. They want to see him make the terrible choices that lead him to become Darth Vader."

But Sith, the first Star Wars film expected to be rated PG-13, will also take fans to new and unexpected places. As Lucas told Lesley Stahl in a recent 60 Minutes interview, "It's much more of a tragedy... it ends in Hell."

He means that literally. In a riff on Faust, the film travels to the molten-lava world of Mustafar. There, Anakin — who has sold his soul to the devil, aka Darth Sidious, Palpatine's true identity — duels with Obi-Wan.

McCallum and avant-garde cinematographer Ron Fricke (Koyaanisqatsi) spent five days shooting the volcanic lava flows on Sicily's Mount Etna to help create the look of Hell, which isn't the first time Lucas has ventured into religious waters. In Phantom Menace he revealed that Anakin had had a Christlike birth — his mom was a virgin — and hinted that his "father" may be the Force itself.

That's hot-button stuff in these oh-so-sensitive times. "George is a man of very great courage," Lee says. "His nerve and imagination make him unique in the history of cinema." And Lucas intends to keep it that way. Though his Star Wars franchise has earned $3.4 billion in worldwide box office and $9 billion in merchandise sales, he sternly told Stahl, "There is no Episode VII."
But production will still continue on Cartoon Network's Star Wars: Clone Wars, an animated series that Lucas helms with McCallum. There's also talk that the duo might do a live-action TV series based on lesser-known Star Wars characters. And each of the six films will be upgraded to 3-D and rereleased one per year, with the first likely to hit theaters in 2007. So while it may seem to be over, in the world according to the 60-year-old Lucas, it's never really over.

"And that's one of my biggest fears — in fact, I'm already having nightmares about it," McCallum says with a laugh. "I just know that one day 15 years from now, the phone is going to ring and someone will say, 'Guess what? George wants to make Episode I all over again.'" — Michael Logan

Duel of Destiny

Warning! Warning! Spoilers approaching! From the beheading of Count Dooku to the genocide of Jedi younglings to Anakin's physical abuse of his dear Padmé, there will be little doubt why Revenge of the Sith might get slapped with a PG-13 rating. The film is also loaded with battles royal. Some are supersize, like the firefight between the Republic and Separatist forces over the planet Coruscant that kicks off the flick. Others are classic one-on-ones: Yoda vs. Palpatine; R2-D2 vs. a deadly droid; Anakin vs. Mace Windu (Samuel L. Jackson); and a penultimate face-off between Anakin and Obi-Wan where, says producer Rick McCallum, "there's no question Anakin will eat it and eat it big time."

But the executive warns that the sequence, which required three months of rehearsal and much buffing up for Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen, is more "intense and powerful because of what it means emotionally than for its technical wizardry." In other words, George Lucas couldn't go all House of Flying Daggers on us. "Stylistically, the duel has to fit into the bigger saga," McCallum says. "We couldn't break with Star Wars tradition and do it in slo-mo or have them jumping at heights we've never seen them jump before."

But Christensen still got his geek on. A lifelong Lucas fan — as a kid he used to pay to get into theaters just to see a Star Wars trailer — the actor kept his lightsaber after completing the fight sequence, with the boss' permission, natch. "I also nicked a few other items I won't mention," admits Christensen. But his best souvenir will never wind up on eBay. "People are already coming up to me on the street and saying, 'Hey, I wanna shake Darth Vader's hand!' And that is an honor I'll have in my back pocket for the rest of my life." Christensen might say that playing such a legendary villain is a dream come true. But, notes the actor, "Nobody could possibly dream this big."

I'm getting f$%^ing sick of all these damn generalizations that Star Wars fans don't like the prequels. have they been on these boards? there are plenty of people on here that love them as much of the old movies, some even think they're better. And when ROTS comes out, and the public finally gets why I and II were what they were and the reasons behind these alleged "flaws". The only reason the public thinks they're flaws is because the public wants to see Vader on a killing spree, and that's not the point of the movies. I'm just so goddamn sick of reading these articles where they always start with "this time Lucas gets it right". Its so irritating, he got them right in I and II also, the general public is just to dumb to understand that it isn't finished till III comes out. So how can they know they're mistakes when they don't even know how it ends? they think they know, they've come up with these things in their heads and imaginations, and are pissed when the reality doesn't match it. Its just so irritating when people can't see past what they want and understand WHY something, especially a film, is the way it is.

I guess this "SOUND EDITION" will use the same thing that they use for birthday cards and will probably feature Vaders breathing as the ad i saw in FHM had Vader on the cover.
ALSO there is a special one off SFX MAGAZINE Star Wars special edition due a week later with free Sticker book.
AND also in the Uk there is a tv special being put together by Dermot O Leary for BBC THREE due in May.

The new issue of TIME has a feature on ROTS. Unfortunately, you need a subscription to be able to read the whole thing online:

http://www.time.com/time/covers/1101050509/story.html

And I think its likly that it also has a review in there because the last 2 issues of time(in 1999 & 2002, when the prequals where released) have both featured star wars reviews weeks in advance. Late april, from what ive been told. So is anybody here or does anybody know a susriber that can copy all what is said in the artcle?

A Look Back in Wonder

After nearly three decades, George Lucas has finished his culture-changing saga of a fallen father and the son who redeems him. The director seems as surprised as anyone at what he has done. He sat down with TIME's Richard Schickel, who has known him since shortly after the original Star Wars came out in 1977, to talk about how he works, his fear of failure and the sort of movies he really wants to make.

By GEORGE LUCAS AND RICHARD SCHICKEL

TIME: Now that you've finished the entire saga, what do you feel? Sad? Glad? Half mad?

LUCAS: Well, I'm still stunned at this point. Yesterday was the first day I saw it, actually sat back and looked at it with an audience. I'm very happy with it. I think it turned out as well as I could have hoped, and at the same time I'm very glad that I finished it. It was desperate just to get the first one made. But the idea of actually doing the other two was this huge Mount Everest. And then the concept of going beyond Mount Everest was completely unthinkable. I expected this to be one movie. I expected it to take me a year, year and a half to make, and then I expected to move on to other things. Especially in the storytelling sense, it was very stylized, very much in opposition to what my natural inclinations are. It was a kind of whim which turned into my life.

TIME: Is that why, after the first three Star Wars episodes, it took you 16 years to come back and do these last three films?

LUCAS: Star Wars was written very carefully around the limits of technology. I had one big technological leap that I had to make, and that was to be able to pan the spaceships. I thought I knew enough about animation that I could make that happen. Everything else was written for what I knew I could get away with, given the fact that I had a limited budget, limited resources. But in terms of having creatures? I could barely get the cantina scene done. I had a couple of really stupid rubber masks. I had to go back and beg another $10,000 so I could go down to a garage and have a friend of mine make some better masks that actually moved their mouths. It took every ounce of energy to create Chewbacca. But then Jurassic Park inspired me. I didn't have to use rubber masks. I could build digital characters that can act and perform and walk around and interact with actors. I can use digital sets. I can paint reality. In essence, it means that cinema has gone from being a photographic medium to a painterly one.

Now just having made it to the end of the river is a relief. All the pieces are together, and I was able to buff up the older ones. I can put it together in a six-part DVD and be very proud of the way the story gets told. On the other hand, I have a feeling this one is going to be sort of like the last one in terms of some people like it, some people hate it. And like everyone who makes movies, I'm always convinced the next one will be a flop. So right now I'm thinking it probably won't make any money and will be considered a failure...

TIME: I think you've probably heard people say, "George doesn't really like directing actors. George doesn't really like being on the set and having the rub and scratch of egos and all that." Is there any truth to that? Is it easier for you to paint them on a computer?

LUCAS: No, no, no, it's not. People don't remember that every time you have a digital character, you have an actor. There's an actor doing the voice, or there's an actor on the set doing the performance with the other actors. He takes the place of the digital character. But you're still dealing with another human being, you're still trying to get a performance out of him, you're still doing that part of directing. I work with actors. I've always worked with actors. Francis Coppola taught me how to work with actors. Now, Francis takes them home to dinner. He lives with them. I'm a different kind of guy.

But I know a lot of directors who are far less communicative than I am. Am I less comfortable on set working with actors than I am in the editing room trying to put it all together? Yes, I would say that's probably true. Am I by nature a shy person? Yes. Have I kind of overcome my shyness to do things that a shy person shouldn't be able to do? Yes, of course I have. But people think of me as a sort of pathological, Howard Hughes-type guy sitting in a hotel room, which is definitely not so. I mean, you've known me for years. It ain't even close to that.

TIME: No, but everybody says, "Well, he's up there on the mountaintop, and he's all by himself—Mr. Mystery."

LUCAS: Yeah, but there's thousands of people here. I wish I worked by myself—it would mean the overhead's much less. But part of that comes from not being in a media center. I'm not in L.A., I'm not in New York, and therefore I must be out in the wilderness, sort of sitting in the Himalayas somewhere. San Francisco is not the wilderness. We have a nice little film community here. We make movies we're very proud of. We're not alone, and we may be liberal, but we're not completely crazy.

TIME: All right now, George, I've been hearing about these movies you're going to make since I first met you. In 1977 you said, "I'm gonna go off and make my little art films." What will they be?

LUCAS: I've got a whole binder full of stuff. Which one I'm going to take on first, I have no idea ... I know I'm going to produce a film about the African-American fighter pilots—the Tuskegee Airmen—during WW II. I've been working on that for 15 years. I've been having a very difficult time getting a script on it.Like everyone who makes movies, I'm always convinced the next one will be a flop ... it probably won't make any money.

TIME: And?

LUCAS: I'm going to go off in the direction that I was really interested in going off in when I was in film school—films like Koyaanisqatsi, films that are a little more abstract in nature. It's vaguely in the land of music videos, I guess, but I don't even know how to describe them. I'm going to deal with themes that have always interested me and are vaguely esoteric in nature. But I'm going to try to make them dramatic. I'm going to try to make them emotional. How they're gonna turn out, I don't know. I know they won't be mainstream movies. Fortunately, I have built my facility here to work in. I've set aside a chunk of money to do my movies—that I figure will last me for 10 years, when I'll be seventysomething and I should probably quit. I'm sure they'll be just as criticized as Star Wars films are. I'm sure some people will be just as devoted to them as the Star Wars films.

I'm also going to do some TV shows. I love television because it's not important. You get to do really great work, you really get to focus on the work, and all this megillah that goes on around it is gone. And you get to explore your interests, and it doesn't have to be that important. I want to get out of doing anything important.

TIME: Except maybe one last Indiana Jones movie.

LUCAS: You know, I said three's fine. And then I came up with an idea I thought was brilliant, so I told the other guys , and they kind of flipped out. It's vaguely in the realm of the supernatural. We have to accept the fact that Indiana Jones is an older man. But it's been hell getting a script out of it. Steven is committed to shooting it next year. I just got the latest script yesterday.

TIME: You don't have that many watersheds left, no matter how old you live to be. So, let me revert to my first question: What does it feel like bringing the Star Wars saga to a conclusion?

LUCAS: Well, I had mixed feelings about being George Star Wars Lucas. That was a hard thing, but I did finally accept the fact that there was probably nothing I was going to do with the rest of my life that was going to change that, that I might as well live with it. It's not the worst thing in the world. If that was my shot at some kind of vague little mark on history, hey, that's not so bad. That sort of led to saying, Well, if I'm already George Star Wars Lucas, then it doesn't make any difference what I do from now on. I've cleaned up the first three to the point where I am happy with them now. They may not be perfect, but they are as perfect as I can make them. I'm proud of the second three movies. People may not like them, but I'm proud of them. I never in a million years thought I could finish the whole story. In its course, I've done a lot of things I wanted to do, taking themes and stringing them different ways in different tones through different times—recurring elements twisted in different ways. And I've managed to do something that I've always kind of been fascinated with—doing something over 12 hours instead of two. What it really comes down to is, I am a happy man. What else can I tell you?

So did anyone besides me catch Hayden and Nick on GMA this morning? Cool interview and then they played around with stunt sabers. Then they did the unthinkable and got some TOTAL FREAK to duel with them. No wonder we get labeled as geeks. laughing out loud

vader519
I saw that this morning also. It was awesome. I guess they had the NY premiere last night cause Hayden siad he saw the film for the first time. I really liked the interview, and the little clip thery kept playing over and over again of Anakin snd Obi-wan fighting on top of the metal pipes on Mustafar. I also believe Hayden is going to be on Regis and Kelly tomorrow morning.

astrofan428
Regis tomorrow, need to remember that. Does anyone remember what day Hayden is on Leno so I can set my recorder?

vader519
Hayden will be on Leno this Friday, and also I was reading over at TFn that Hayden is going to be on TRL today in a couple of hours.

vader519
Anybody watching TRL right now, they have Hayden on, and they showed a clip from the Obi-wan Anakin duel. We have all seen it before, where they are in the Mustafar control room swinging their lightsabers fast and then they try to force push each other. Well they showed the clip a little longer, and it was awesome. Both Anakin and Obi-wan fly backwards after doing force push at the same time. Also they said the yare going to have a specail TRL Star Wars edition next week on May 13th, from Skywalker Ranch.
