When Obi Won and Yoda died, their bodies disappeared. When Vader and Qui Gon died, their bodies did not disappear and where finally burned during their funerals. Why the difference?

Watch Episode III and find out stick out tongue

Falacerjedi
aye its explained in ep3 ... gotta wait for the movie to find out

NoFate007
Vader's armor was burned at the end of ROTJ. His body obviously disappeared because he returned as a ghost at the end of the movie.

I think Sith don't dissapear after they are dead( like Maul), so Vader didn't dissapear until he was cremated mentioned by NoFate007. Though, that means Qui-Gon was a Sith. shifty

Qui-Gon teaches Yoda and Obi-Wan how to become one with the force and retain their consciousness and how dissapear when they die. It is achieved through being selfless and being in tune with the force, we will actually hear Qui-Gons voice telling Yoda about the secret of the Whills. Yoda explains to Obi-Wan that they have new training to recieve during their exiles.

Yup, simple answer, in advance of Episode III, we do not know. Point is that it is wrong to assume that Jedi normally do it- in fact, the Ghost appearances in the Original Trilogy are highly unusual- actively unique. How they came about, hot rumour has it, will be explained.

So to make it clear- Jedi do not turn into ghosts when they disappear, but a specific plot development will cause the pheneomenon we saw in the Original Films.

NoFate007
Obviously the only Jedi to fade after death are Yoda, Obi-Wan and Anakin (off screen probably moments after his last line). No other Jedi has done that in the prequels, (just look at Geonosis) and no other Jedi will. Qui-Gon will be the only other one we see as a ghost, unless Lucas decides to make him just a voice.
