What should Bush do to be a better president?

This is a serious topic here, folks--please don't come in here and leave a post that has a quality similar to that of my namesake. I'm talking about things such as:

"lolz get a brain"
"he should quit"
"bush is a moron"
"nuke everything lol"

Etc.

I would like to hear--or, more accurately, see--on what you believe he should do to help things in the US and other parts of the world.

Clovie
since he got chosen for the second time, maybe Americans do think he is a good president.
ergo he shouldn't change anything.

Echuu
Well, I think he should make reforms on keeping tighter security on the Mexican/US border. Illegal immigration is a problem that needs to be dealt with.
He needs to uphold the constitution against liberal idealogy that wants to destroy it. I.e. judges exceeding their authority above the constitution.

He needs to support the people of Iran against the mullahs- I'm not talking militarily for those of you who say The US had become an empire.

KharmaDog
Stop manipulating and paying the press.

Work a little harder to be a decent diplomat instead of someone who just pisses people off.

Stop lying and fabricating facts in order to go forward on agendas.

There's so much more, but that's a start.

He only barely got voted in, Clovie, it was very very close and he only won by about 3%, so many think that he's NOT a good president.

Corlindel
To help things in other parts of the world he should commit a colective suicide with all of his admnistration thumb down

lil bitchiness
Let someone else take over. That would be smart and noble of him. Something he never did so far.

Alpha Centauri
I was going to say that, thief.

That's poor logic.

American's voted for him the second time around because his competition was even more pathetic than himself.

No President...during their term....is a "good" President.

Bush could pull all the troops out of Iraq, Come to peaceful terms with North Korea and Iran, and give up every penny he personally owned to the point where he was broke.....and People still wouldn't change their opinion of him.

That's true, but being as he has made such a colossal mess of just about everything that he has touched I think that the feats that you have described are beyond an impossibility for his administration or any other administration that chooses to act like his.

Echuu
Yes i value your statements kharmadog; I think its sick that some would suggest collective suicide though. People should value life more, even if it is the life of someone they don't like.

Bush is giving America such a nasty name, and hes making those people in America who clearly are aware of what is happening look terrible! The world has this view that America is a Bush Bible Bashing* Country where everyone loves Bush the Criminal, when it clearly is not so.

If you love your country and your people, than why would you support a man whos getting you into an unncessary war, lying about it and then getting people killed?

*bible bashing is a term me and my friends use to describe super-religions people, it doesn't actually mean literlay bashing the bible.

manny321
Nah i like Clinton better. A president that sends a country through good calm times is better then a guy changing everything.(bush)

Also he should not mix religion with government. I don't see why you guys aren't fuming over that. IN any other Western country it would be political suicide.

roll eyes (sarcastic) My god, is there no end to your inability to think for yourself?

As for Bush, there is little for him to change. In the first post, FeceMan said that the rules of the thread dictate that comments like Bush stepping down should not be made. But, that sentiment is a knee jerk reaction. Those who disagree with his politics will always assume that would be the best course of action in this situation. But, he can't step down. He can't step down anymore than he can pull his lips of the conservative christian right's ass long enough to think for himself.

So, my advice to the president would be just that. Get up off that bent knee long enough to rock the boat. In fact, consider this a standing recommendation for any sitting president. Think for yourself. Once in power, use that one term you'll have to make changes for the better. Consider no one group superior to another. Actually act in accordance with the original ideals this country was founded to represent.

The United States was founded not by those who first arrived on Plymouth Rock, nor by the people who fought the civil war. This country was founded by people who experienced tyranny from afar. A sentiment that can be shared by many in this country today. In all honesty, the American revolution was less justified than many that have taken place in history. But it took place, none the less. This country would do well to remember that we a free. All we have to do is make the choice to act free.

manny321
A country founded with such great ideals and is turning more more away from these ideals.

I try and respect your posts. I really do. I know you are quite young and have trouble with your grammar. However, this crosses the line. This goes from knee-jerk post and blanket-statement attitude to completely idiotic.

Have you not read any of my posts? Do you just sift through the boards, posting whatever pops into your head while a strong sedative drips into your blood, dulling your thoughts? Or do you lack the ability to read and comprehend the English language aside from basic sentence structure?

DO YOU UNDERSTAND THE WORDS THAT ARE COMING OUT OF MY MOUTH?

(Man, don't nobody understand the words that are comin' outta your mouth!)

Seriously, I get this picture of a girl sitting at her computer, a glazed expression on her face. She stares at the screen in a drugged stupor, a bit of drool sliding out of the corner of her mouth which is twisted into a slanted smile. Other than making nonsense sounds while she reads, she is silent.

Step outside the box.

She has a slight understanding of what it truely means to think for herself. She sounds like a soundbite. A conservative voice among many, who don't seek representation. She makes an ass of herself and everyone she speaks for when she opens her mouth. Let alone the fact that she opens her mouth in a manner accustomed to a social retard. If I felt she was speaking from an imformed position, I wouldn't have half the problems with her that I do. As it is, shes a twit...who thinks she has a voice. But she doesn't. Even among those who believe what she does..she's only a source of ridicule.

she should learn to keep her mouth shut. But, none the less she doesn't. She keeps spitting in the wind and making an ass of herself, and everyone that agrees with her, inadvertantly.

In reference to this internet forum, shouldn't it be:

DO YOU UNDERSTAND THE WORDS THAT YOUR FINGERS ARE TYPING?

Of course, you were speaking metaphorically...

As for the BIG, BAD Bush...

I think he should show a greater respect for the UN, by choosing an ambassador who doesn't hold the contempt for it that Bolton obviously does...Please don't reply that Bush wants him there to 'stir things up'...He wants him there so that the US can gain a greater control of the UN by being so bloody belligerent towards it.

The same argument can be applied to the imminent appointment of Paul 'Let's bomb the damn place' Wolfowitz as head of the World Bank. By putting a man who shows infinitesimal concern for life beyond the US borders, it shows the disgusting extent of current US hegemony.

So, there you go...If you could pass those details on to Dubya, I'd be much obliged.

calvinNhobbes
I am not much into politics but I voted in the election and my choice lost. I was even further angered when I found out that so many of Bush's associates are getting key positions but then I guessed that perhaps this is a common practice. Is Bush doing more back scratching then previous presidents or is this about par for the course? Plus how come no one has mentioned Karl Rove. I think that Karl Rove is the Wizard behind the curtain choreographing the whole administration. My opinion about the president is that he has done what he has set out to do but he has not anticipated the consequences. Plus I am not to happy with the opening of Alaska to oil drilling. And what is the exact plan he has for Social Security? He makes a tour to promote his changes but I am uninformed as to what his changes exactly are. Am I not reading enough or has he never really stated a set plan? Okay I know I am not answering the question. So I think the president should stand for the environment as he claims to, help to straighten out the deception in the U.N. oil for food agreement, stop politicking for corporate america and stop looking so damn smug.

Here's my $0.02:

a) Stop the corruption in the current iteration of the GOP. All politicians are corrupt, but, please, Tom Delay makes Al Capne look like a saint (sans-ordered-killing)

b) Adopt a foreign policy that embraces diplomacy before military action. if you find yourself looking at war, chances are you haven't exhausted all your options first.

c) Stop trying to make it seem like Republicans are being persecuted. You hold a majority in both houses of congress and you hold the white house. You're not being persecuted, you're feeling the proverbial windiness at the proverbial top.

d) Read the US Constitution and the Declaration of Independence and try to grasp what the nation's founders had in mind. They fled England because they were being persecuted by a powerful religious group for their beliefs. The GOP is now persecuting people who don't fit in with THEIR religious beliefs.

e) FFS, when the PM of Israel gives you an ancient mesopotamian artifact and a metal statue carved by his own daughter, as a gift, do not return the favor by giving him a pair of Ostrich ranchers' boots with US and Israeli flags on them.

f) Repeal the PATRIOT act and actually think of ways to improve nat'l security without infringing upon every American's constitutional rights.

g) Stop Lying. Period.

h) Realize your family is from New England, originally, and you're the only Bush son with a twang. Your "Folksy, Aw-Shucks demeanor" is getting worn out.

i) Fire Rumsfeld. That man has done worse things for the reputation of the US than the rest of you combined. "Old Europe," my ass.

j) Say what you mean, and mean what you say. If you claim to support the troops, then don't cut veterans' benefits, don't send them out to war ill-equpped.

k) Drop the preemptive Warfare doctrine. That shit starts fights, and someone's going to get hu-- oh wait, ~1600 US soldiers are dead, thousands upon thousands are injured, and god knows how many "brown people" have gotten killed because of that horrendous screwball concoction.

l) Don't Lie. I'm serious about this. I know you're a politician, and you have to lie to fit in, but please, can't you just throttle back on the BS for just a little while?

m) Social Security Privatization is a farce. Few Republicans support it now. Drop the issue while you still can.

n) Take "cool" lessons from Clinton. I'm not saying that you need to get a hummer in the oval office, but Clinton knew how to bend his words and make people like him.

o) Rein in federal spending, or make plans to generate more revenue. it's hurting the US Dollar, and most of us don't have the finds saved up to survive a crash.

p) Don't count your "Mission Accomplished" banners before they hatch. I mean, don't count your eggs before they hatch.

q) You used to be the party of small government. So far you've done a lot of usurping power from the states by way of federal mandates. Let the states decide what they want to do, don't push constitutional amendments banning something you think is a "sin."

r) The media is not "lib'rul." If anything, the US media is far to the right of almost every other national news network around the world.

s) Don't rule with a bible in one hand and a gavel in the other.

t) Apologize to the world for all the FUD you've been spreading. That stuff never gets anything done.

u) Stop paying journalists (cough -- Armstrong William) to be nice to the horsesh*t legislation you're trying to ram thgouh congress.

Back up my friend. There is a huge difference between the words "DON'T" , "WON'T" , and CAN'T". I have no problem with people reaching a contrary point of view. Maybe you agree with her politics. That's fine. This is America and I will always agree with someone's right to have another opinion. My mother disagrees with me on almost every political point we've ever discussed. In fact, judging by the length of your posts, you put rational thought into your responses and the opinions you've reached. That's cool. Jackie's posts are always seven thoughts crammed, inncorrectly, into one sentance. That's why she reminds me of a fox news soundbite. Anyone who put any rational thought into their opnion would have more to say than she does. One sentence? 90% of the threads she responds in merrit more than a one line, an IGNORANT one line answer. And this isn't member bashing or name calling. At least not any more than calling an entire thread "ignorant DEms". Christ, it's like she sat down to dinner with her father and just comes into political threads and pukes up the highlights of what he told her to think. I don't care if she is 14, she should still be able to think. If not, then I would imagine she rides the short bus to school. Besides, I've been on her ignore list since day one. It hardly matters what I think of her. Maybe that makes her the bigger person in this situation, I just can't get over it.

We will always have a difficult time finding a descent candidate as long as we have a two party system. As it is now, this country is run by corporations and special inrests. They have the luxury of wanting something done, and simply buying the candidate that hasn't been bought by another company that wants the opposite. When this country takes into consideration the fact that a third, fourth even fifth political party is possible...even beneficial. There doesn't have to be only two points of view.

However, the rest are more personal changes as opposed to public changes. Philosophers who advocates anti democratic... well it's the best we have, but you can improve it for sure. The lobotomy answer said it all about the thread, and i posted somewhere my opinion about Republicans.

BTW, when did we reach critical mass, we (users) can turn any thread into BS or gold.

I assume the language barrier is getting in the way. What do you mean by: "Your followers"? I have no followers. Unless that too is meant as an out of turn statement?

Aside from that, my hope that there will someday be a multi-party system in the united states holds up. Why be limited to a two party system, when the constitution allows for more than two points of view?

Typical view of someone who has no grasp of politics.

People do vote outside of their parties. I know several people who usually vote Republican that voted for Kerry, and vice-versa.

Personally I think that if someone votes purely based on what party the candidate is, they're an idiot. Figure out the candidate's stance on issue you believe in and vote based on that.

1. Sign the kyoto treaty
2. Free those prisoners on Cuba
3. Stop the new laws that limit Americans their freedoms
4. Allow gays to get married
5. Stop listening to the bible to lead a country
6. Stay in Iraq (i'm anti war but leaving now will only make it worse) for as long as Iraq asks
7. Be nicer to China its the US its best chance for a future
8. Stop covering Israel its ass
9. Stop saying "God bless us"
10. Stop saying things like "Your either with us or against us" There is no black or white only grey
11. Stop pretending the US is all that matters in the world

13. Spend more money on US education and make sure that everybody can get it
14. Spend more money on Healthcare and make sure that everybody can get it
15. Restrict the gun laws to certain people only
16. Make people have tests before they buy guns, register guns, and register munition. (will stop thousands of murders)

I don't think I said it was the worst thing I could imagine. I think the question was why is there no descent candidates. I can think of a lot worse things that are going on in this country. Also, I may not be understanding your post, but my point WAS that the two party standard(it's not written into the constitution that there must be only two parties) should be changed.

And I think you're missing my point. When there are only two parties that means there is ONLY ROOM FOR TWO POINTS OF VIEW IN THE POLITICAL ARENA. There is so much middle ground to be covered. Take social security for an example. Right now there is a huge debate over whether or not to privatize it or not. There isn't another point of view, no other plan, no other solution to the problem. Maybe there is a third option that no one is thinking of or talking about. The country gets caught up in hating the point of view of the other guy, that they never get anywhere. President after president, year after year...things never really change. And this president, who originally ran as a president that would bring everyone together has done more to divide this country than any other president. Like Bill Maher said: "When did this country become Utah?" I really do hope there is a huge backlash on the conservative Christian Right. I hope they pull Jerry Fallwell off his fat ass and drag him into the streets and burn him alive.

I know that last part was irrelevent...I just wanted to say it.

The two party system is indeed one of the worst things that can happen to a country... Besides minor differences the two party's aren't even that different. Democrates are more like the Republicans then they should be. It doesn't really matter who you vote for not much will change besides things going on right now. And those will only change a small bit, as not to piss of the other side too much.

As opposed to spending tons and tons on a war that is not necessary - noone is threatening America, so why not just let it be?

i actually agree with JM. I understand constructive conversations on how the president can be a better president. However, if you are going to throw fire on the cause by keeping with the mindset that george bush shouldnt be president then your not going to have much to give.

The only thing Bush can do to be a better president is stop starting wars, continue to atleast try and clean up the mess with Iraq, dont taunt the rest of the world and piss them off with American ignorance. Focus more on the homefront of financial obligations which encompasses everything from healtcare to social to jobs. As long as Bush can cut the loses and ride this rotting horse that is the presidential party back to the stables. then i believe a new horse in four years will bring the country back into the leading lane.

IMO There are few things President Bush should do. They might be what some of you consider "Nationalism" but I just think thats what we need for this country. First and foremost he needs to put America first and the rest of the world DEAD last in his agenda. WE should come first! We are the people who elected him (by this I mean the majority that voted for him) so therefore he SHOULD take care of us BEFORE of helping another country or nation.

Our economy comes first and our Social system should be improved and more efficent. President Bush needs to STOP getting involved into foreign affairs and should concentrate more on us than the rest of the world. We the people of America should always come first in his agenda. Screw the rest of the World problems....our problems should be dealt FIRST! As harsh as this might sound to some of you the truth is that President Bush should always put America first and ignore the rest of the world. Why? Because again some of us voted for him so therefore we are entitled to be served first. If there is a revolution or a civil war in another country then that's their problem. Not our problem! Not our business and if they ask for help from the US. Then Bush should tell them to "Stick it up" and also say "My country comes first you ain't my problem! Go to the U.N. for your problems". Plain and simple America problems should be our prioirity.

From an economic perspective both need each other. Just like the world wouldn't be the same if England and Japan didn't exists. Do not think that my opinion is about isolating the US from the world. That could never happen period. But what I do want from my government is that beforeour politics go out there and help another nation. Our problems should be dealt first. And I'm not talking State by state. I'm talking as in a whole nation term.

I don't give a rat ass (excuse the language) if the rest of the world hates us, or hate our president, or even hate people like me that voted for Bush. Because for me they ain't provinding help or anything. They only are critics and full of themselves. They are too blind to see the problems in their own nation and use almost every excuse to blame the USA for the world problems. Now, I know that sounds little crappy, but I'm sorry that's the way I see it.

My main issue is that our politics belong to us. And we should come first. Our social problems need to be dealt prior to any other problem that needs to be resolve in another nation. Yes, if it is a humanitarian help thats all fine by me. The US should try to help in any way possible. As other countries that can afford help. But in political issues...we need to keep it home. Thats the way I feel.
