Photon can just absorb all of the energy in the ring.

GL's don't fare well against energy absorbers.

But this is HAL JORDAN we're talking about. How can he ever lose??

How many times have they lost to a foe who didn't have a device specifically built to absorb Green Lantern energy? Because by my count there are less instances of Hal having his ring absorbed by 'randoms' than there are of Surfer getting drained by generics.
