There are a lot of non movie books out there, what ones should be movies

jaden101
porno by irvine welsh...the sequel to trainspotting

the catastrophist by ronan bennet

high rise by JG Ballard(the writer of "crash" and "empire of the sun"wink

cocaine nights also by Ballard

*LEGATO*
Anthony Horowitz' Alex Rider series..

Darth Sidious
Complicity by Iain Banks

Another story set in the great Edinburgh!!

Filmmaker451
Angels & demons(though I wopn't be able to see it since it would be R or NC-17)
Charlie and the great glass elevator(I don't know how it would turn out but I loved the book even though it wasn't as good as the first one)

Maybe I would like if they made a movie out of te hatchet too.

TheFanboy
The Chronicles of Prydain would be cool. Don't think their that popular though and it's mainly geared to a younger audience. There was a crappy Disney version, cartoon, but I won't count that.

chilled monkey
Solitaire by Kelley Eskridge. That would be a great movie.

Telpy
"The Hobbit"!

Also, the "His Dark Material" trilogy.

They are being made into movies! If the first his dark materials movie is succesful they will make movies for the second and third book too. It's due to come out sometime in december 2006. The hobbit I think is coming out in 2009 but no one has a clue when it really is coming.

kanis
alien Because they mostly have no material of their own to work on so they pick books with interesting stories and make them into films

MildPossession
Nothing wrong with adapting a book.

Jackie Malfoy

forumcrew

The Catcher in the Rye was so boring why would you want to make that into a movie?jm smile

eleveninches
The 'Sandman' Saga (dc/vertigo)
Although this would be EXTREMELY challenging to bring to a cinema format.

If you need an example of sacrilege, read the above quote. You can probably add ignornce into the mix...

Red Superfly
Spot The Dog.

I can't say that I'm entirely behind books being made into movies. But, if I had to pick one...I'm going to go with Dante's Divine Comedy (Inferno). That would be interesting to see on the big screen. (Well, to me anyways.)

octapushunter
why not a series of movies of the Bible, from Genisis to Revelations

also, a quality version of the left behind books would be interesting.

i also liked choke, by the same guy that wrote fight club

-Funky Punk-
the litttle house on the prarie..... they have a couple shows about it but the dont follow the books at all....

Cait Sith
Theres stacks of books i would love to come out to movie.
Umm lets see Maybe the Matthew Reilleyt Books "Contest" would probably be the coolest.
Some of Raymond E. Feist Books Such as "Magician" would be good too. Clive Barker "The Great and Secret Show" would be a good horror movie.
BTW, im happy that they are making Chronicles of Narnia into a movie. But with Disney doing it, im thinking they might make it more kiddie like. I just hope it ends up as good as the books were.

@F1
Gengis Khan (Historic Books)

tomsgurlz
I tell you one thing they should of never made a seris of unfortunate events a movie. My god they totally slottered that movie!

mayor_gamgee
Nausea by Sartre.

And yes, "Series" was awful.

To some length, I think that there is limited gain that movie makers can have using books as basis for movies. They definately need to be creative in the way they choose to show the books visually. Also, they need to not worry whether fans of the book will apreciate the film. They never do.

In the catagory of films that were excellent adaptations of books, the judges need to be non-fans or objective people that will judge the movie based on its own merit. Thus I have created a column of movies and the books that they have been based upon. These are the best ever.

"Adaptation" The Orchid Thief
"Fight Club" Fight Club
"Apocalypse Now" Heart Of Darkness
"Lonesome Dove"(a mini-series) Lonesome Dove
"Blade Runner" Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep
"Sin City" A series of Sin City graphic novels

rogue21579
I know that they are making the novel by Dan Brown-The Davinci Code- into a movie. But in my opinion, I think that the prequel- Angels and Demons- would be a much better movie. I enjoyed it more. Anyone agree??

kanis
alien Then you will just have to watch evangelion movie when the bring it out

Delta 62
The novels that MUST be made into movies are "Fear Nothing" and "Seize the Night" by Dean Koontz. If they got the right actors..preferably unknowns..and the right director..they could be the best movies ever. Well..next to Episode III of course.

Nightwitch
If I had to choose a book or/and series I would choose Searching for Dragons (even though it is centered around elementary and junior high kids) it was a really interesting set smile reading lol

vanyoda
These Sci-Fi books would make great movies,

Arthur C. Clarke - Rendezvous with Rama

Robert A. Heinlein- The Moon is a Harsh Mistress

Larry Niven & Jerry Pournelle - The Mote in God's Eye

Robert A. Heinlein -Stranger in a Strange Land

Larry Niven - Ringworld

I'm not too sure about them makin the davinci code into a movie, i mean yeah its an obvious cash cow. Book makes money then movie = money. No brainer right?

But! I think that they should make the first book, Angels and Demons, into a movie. Its a shit lot hotter!

i completely disagree with the deltora quest books going to movies, they will rank with series of unfortunate events

I do believe though that the bartimus trilogy by Jonathan Stroud.
I also think that Homers Iliad/Odyssey would be a movie worth making.
I would also say Eragon/Eldest, but they are coming out this December.

Hobbit comes out this year too.(NOT ANIMATED)

Azure
i am going to disagree with you disagreeing,( i hope that made sense) if Peter Jackson directs it, i dont think it will turn out that bad

Azure
