I'm getting a laptop soon, before I go off to college, and I'm quite torn between PC(windows) and Mac(apple)...I've used windows all my life and quite frankly it's become annoying, bothersome, and unreliable. I've had experiences with macs and they've been pretty pleasant...but my sister says not to get one because you can't run a lot of programs on them...but if I get Windows, what's the point of having programs if they crash all the time? I don't know what to do, and I'm making a decision soon!

Echuu
What will you be using this laptop for? School mostly?

lil bitchiness
Windows. Most deffinitivly.

Mac is so user unriendly - windows all the way.

Echuu
Uh-oh lil b. You are supporting windows!!! Watch out! The mac people are sure to come! eek!

Draco69
Windows. Everything is compatible with it. Mac can't say the same.

Although Mac looks way cooler though

BackFire
Windows is easier to learn, and has better compatability, plus it's easier to find games for Windows.

PVS
they both suck
just in different ways

KidRock
get windows.

A mac is pointless except for movie editing.

BackFire
For once, I'm in agreement with Kid Rock.

SlipknoT
Windows.

MC Mike
If you're planing on only using it for student purposes, get a Mac, but make sure you are patient with it, it's not the kid stuff that Windows is...

GCG
that reminds me of Bill Gates Vs. General Motors

For all who drive cars or use computers: this is too good to pass up For all of us who feel only the deepest love and affection for the way computers have enhanced our lives: At a recent computer exposition (COMDEX) Bill Gates reportedly compared the computer industry with the auto industry and stated:

"If General Motors had kept up with the technology like the computer industry has, we would all be driving $25.00 cars that got 1,000 miles to the gallon!"

In response to Bill's comments, GM issued a press release stating:

"If General Motors had developed technology like Microsoft, we wouldall be driving cars with the following characteristics:

1. For no reason whatsoever, your car would crash twice a day.

2. Every time they repainted the lines in the road, you would have to buy a new car.

3. Occasionally your car would die on the freeway for no reason. You would have to pull over to the side of the road, close all of the windows, shut off the car, restart it, and reopen the windows before you could continue. For some reason, you would simply accept this.

4. Occasionally, executing a manoeuvre such as a left turn would cause your car to shut down and refuse to restart, in which case you would have to reinstall the engine.

5. Macintosh would make a car that was powered by the sun, was reliable, five times as fast and twice as easy to drive-but would run on only five percent of the roads.

6. The oil, water temperature, and alternator warning lights would all be replaced by a single "General Protection Fault" warning light.

7.The airbag system would ask "are you sure?" before deploying.

8. Occasionally, for no reason whatsoever, your car would lock you out and refuse to let you in until you simultaneously lifted the door handle, turned the key and grabbed hold of the radio antenna.

9. Every time GM introduced a new car, car buyers would have to learn to drive all over again, because none of the controls would operate in the same manner as the old car.

10. You'd have to press the "Start" button to turn the engine off.

Ahahahahahaa!!!

response number 7 is my favourite big grin laughing

Lana
OMFG that's hilarious laughing

Personally I wouldn't mind getting a Mac, but I do lots of Photoshop work and it runs much better on a Mac system than Windows.

Echuu
laughing out loud

I dunno; my laptop is an Hp pavilion with windows xp and the only problem I have with it is caused by the internet. I say just get a good virus protection system and you'll be fine.

sexylexy32
I'm liking the Mac for school stuff ,I use Apple at the moment. But for other stuff on the internet it runs better on Windows because some programs aren't programed to Mac. BTW, GCG that stuff is hilarious, thanxs for posting!laughing out loud big grin

speiderman
I would go with mac. I am a college student and so many problems wiht windows xp. Imacs are so much more reliable. They are well-made too.

Fëanor
me personally i'd go for the 'ONE' that rules them all...the 'ONE' that binds us...cuz, if it 'RINGS' true then that's what you'll hear

if a fellow ships you some advice and says: there are more doors for you to open as there are 'WINDOWS' ....heed them well lest you become a sour man...stick out tongue

misha
i definently reccomend windows - mac is so confusing wacko

Ou Be Low hoo
I'm currently pondering the same decision...My friend thinks I should get a sleek and sexy Apple G4, but I just ain't sure...

K Von Doom
If you want to play games, get a PC. If you want a computer that doesn't crash, get a Mac.

As usual, I find that we agree, my boyf has an AppleMac and when I first used it I couldn't get to grips with it at all, I was saying how shit it was and that he had to get a PC if only for my sanity. But I've gotten used to it; he had it basically for his Graphic design because, as Lana said, it runs much better and also looks better.

If you're getting a laptop just for college I'd say get a PC, it's geared towards offices and that sort of work environment, and the net works just as well on either depending on your connection. Mac's are generally for most types of multimedia such as music and graphics so they'd be better for more specific aspects. AND Windows is compatible with most programs happy

Linkalicious
Photoshop.

LOOKS...the exact same.

RUNS...the exact same.

Difference? No right click button.

Windows for the win!

Bardock42
I prefer MacDonalds...muhahahahahahah anyway back on topic

^well, that's just it....I WILL be doing lots of editing....seeing as I will be studying film and television, and graphic design at collegestick out tongue
So yeah, lots of visual arts...but then again, the college has lots of Pcs to use there, for editing or whatever, but I still would like one of my own, a laptop for off-campus work and such...

I just am really hating windows at the moment because It's given me sooo much trouble, crashing all the time and stuff, and I've heard good things about macs...

it crashes too often...god forbid should you get a 'memory error'...

i've a pc for most things...but use a mac for photoshop and mediastudio

Linkalicious
I have Photoshop CS on my PC at home and I took a Digital Media Arts class for Photoshop CS using a Mac.

I honestly cannot understand one reason why people would think a Mac is better for Photoshop than a PC.

If your computer keeps crashing.....learn to take better care of it. The only time I've had problems with my PC is when my brother used to go on porn downloading streaks using KaZaa. Aside from that, my comp would ruin every Mac short of a G5.

Laptops are different. I'd prefer to never buy one of those.

Smodden

blalocklover
Well If you have to deal with philogenies you will have to use a Mac

Lana
If you'll mostly be using it for video and photo editing, then a Mac is definitely the way to go. Much more stable OS and is less likely to crash. I always have Photoshop and Illustrator crashing on me on my Windows comp.

Damnit, I want a Mac.

I own a laptop, and I find it way better and more compatible than a PC - everyones different i guess.

Lana
I'd really like a laptop, if just for the portability. Sucks when I'm at school, with hours between classes, and all the comps at the cafe are taken...if I had a laptop, I could just plug it in and not have to wait for an available computer.

Fëanor
get yourself a mac...G4 with dual processors with at least half a gig to a gig of ram and a fast vid card a large HD along with a portable HD for your B/U's....and never...ever use it for the internet...keep it clean and pristine...

Kaleanae
I had an iBook for 4 years, I missed it sad
I never had problems with Spyware and viruses, just the ocassional bombs in the middle of my typing.

Imperial_Samura
I never really bought into the whole MAC vs PC thing. Both have there pros and cons (and what about UNIX eh?). When I started University and needed a new computer system I went PC as it had a versatility that suited what I was doing, a more developed "market" with easier access, and well, games.

It has served perfectly, and to be honest I have never had a problem with crashes at all, other then a year ago when it got a virus. Other then that it runs perfectly. Same with my Laptop.

sk8stuff09
mac is f*cking weird and most ppl dont have em around here..the cool thing mac made was ipod..

K Von Doom
PCs = crash more, more prone to viruses, slower but less expensive

Macs = more stable, virtually virus free, faster, looks better but more expensive

MC Mike
Or just get a Linux and almost all your virus-worries will be gone, plus the damn thing is free.

Tptmanno1
hehe.
For Desktop, I'd go PC, simply for games.
but School work, Mac...

(Link, you know you can switch out a Mac mouse right?)

I have more problems with Macs than just the mice. I don't like their OS either...

shugie99
My Mac can entertain me for hours. I love playing on iphoto and itunes. There are so many cool graphics, features, etc. I would not want to have to do work on it though. It would not be as efficent to do excel in for example.

Ou Be Low hoo
My choice is down to a Sony VAIO FS15 and an Apple G4 15" Combo Drive...What to do? What to do?

qubit
Don't get Linux unless you are a purist who believes that the only way to interact with a computer is by typing cryptic commands. Hey don't get me wrong, I've have Macs, Windows and Linux boxes at home. I used to use Linux primarily for file serving and web development, but since Mac went OS X I haven't had a reason to keep one around. Sure Mac OS X comes out of the box quite insecure, but if you know what you're doing to can protected it just as well as any Unix box.

But all that doesn't help. Unless you're going to study computer science, forego Linux. If you simply must play games, PCs definitely get the best games first.

If you're going with a Laptop, go Mac. I have both a Sony VAIO and a G4 15". The Sony's not bad but I just can't stand the Windows interface and the fact that it crashes and keeps loosing its connection with my wifi router, and the fact that Sony offers such poor support and has such poorly documented and yet proprietory hardware/software integration.

I use my G4 15" PowerBook almost exclusively even though I have a Dual G4 tower under my desk. OS X since Panther has never crashed on me, and the software/hardware integration is flawless. Mac is definitely the way to go if you plan to do graphics, design, or media. All new Mac's come with iLife pre-installed which means you get iMovie, iDVD (which would be wasted, however, if you don't get one with a Superdrive), iPhoto, iTunes and Garageband, which basically means you get a media management and amature video editing system straight out of the box.

I was waiting for someone to say that!

And it seems i must be the only person who found Mac OS easy to get to grips with first time round, im an XP user, and i used a mac for the first time around a month ago, and i could use it just as well as XP straight away, didnt find it confusing at all.

the only thing that got me first of all is that it has a weird "flower key" thats used as the shortcut button, but after about 3 mins that was all fine.

But at the end of the day, im a gamer, so i would always choose PC by default, but i do love macs aswell.
