Ok, so here are the participants in the Amalgam tournament.

Who wins this battle royale?

Smart money is probably on the unofficial defending champ (from the last tourney) Scoobless...but with 10 in the field, a repeat will be tough. demigawd has honed his fighting craft with a string of build-a-team and fight me threads, Khellendros nearly took out Scoob in the last tourney (in came down to the last vote), and Quick Freeze recently chose an obscure herald as his first character which may help or hinder him.

Will it be one of these, or will a darkhorse (pun intended) emerge victorious? Post your thoughts on this, and how long you think this thread will last before it's shut down by the moderators...

After getting bored and having read a good part of the last tournament, I'd say Scoobless. Or Nataku, cuz he has the ultimate in power equalizing, Silver Surfer...

Crazy arguing skills by Scoobless is what it came down to in the last one though, I still think Khell had a better team just at face value... I'm waiting for him to pull someone really random out of his a$$ this time.

Oh, and do the amalgams have the weaknesses of their characters as well as strengths if someone else in the mix doesn't cancel it out? Like will a character with Superman get wasted by a dude with Batman's handy dandy kryptonite ring? (like Batman being human durability would be canceled by Superman, but not a whole lot of people are specifically Kryptonite immune...)

I think that's probably what most people are thinking... for instance, have Superman but also have Dr Strange so the magic weakness is negated... or have Shang Chi melded with Flash thus multiplying his fighting ability and making him virtually untouchable

yeah, zod's weakness to magic is negated by loki's mastery of it

I agree with dizzle for the most part, Scoobless has consistently shown mad argument skills (I've been at the receiving end of them more than once so I know firsthand)...probably makes him a slight favorite, but I'm thinking in this one it may more about who forms the best character than who can argue the best (but they'll both be factors of course).

...just something to have some fun with...$5 American dollars (3.87 Euros) to get in the poll....just kidding, of course.

i think ScarletSpider replaced demigawd. he chose impulse and gl (hal) if i remember correctly. . . or maybe that was long pig. anyway no more demigawd and one of the newer additions as a superfast gl. . .

I shall replace demigawd if he does not "sign in" before a certain deadline set by Evangel.

Yep...so now Scarlet Spider is at 20/1 Odds...possibly the best steal in the tourney, given the high pay-back. And no offense SS, but like longpig, you have less prep time with planning your character, and chose last since you came in late.

That, and I needed to determine someone as an underdog for the tourney (longpig and SS it is, then)

And right now, Scoobless has the Asgardian Destroyer (picked through a small loophole in the rules) as one of his picks, so he's down to 2/1 and is currently the odds-on favorite unless Evangel prohibits the pick.

Only if you choose superman's body. Then you get his kryptonite weakness.

You choose whose body you want. Whose mind you wish to operate the body, and which powers you want.

Making the choices for the body or mind are crucial. For example, you may use:

Morg (Mind/powers)
Superman (body/powers)
Loki (powers)

Morg is a ruthless herald that likes to use brute strength against his opponents. He has no experience wielding magically asgardian powers or experience using another body. Those are the consequences of your choices.

Many factors like this come into play. Strategy is the key.

Well Quick Freeze had to drop out of the tourney (school stuff) and it looks like I might have his spot...too much is changing right now...

I'll update this thread with the complete list of contestants (and odds ) after the teams have been set.

Oh, and the Destroyer was officially banned (collective sigh of relief from anyone who isn't Scoobless) so it's back to square one...

k...here's an updated roster of people in the tourney. I'm back in it so I can't make "odds" because it might reveal who I think has better teams than others (there are some good ones). Technically, under my old system of "the later you enter the tourney, the smaller your chances are" I'm the biggest underdog in the whole thing. But we all know that's not the case...

Remember to vote once the tourney starts...but vote based on both how the contestants debate as well as the strength of their team, not just one or the other.

Feel free to remark on good/bad teams, good/bad picks, or liklihood of someone winning, but please refrain from talking individually on how the fights would play out. That's what the tourney is for...

well you both should have been worried..... that Destroyer armour is practically invincible to the power levels used in the tournament

you should put up a list of which mind/body etc... is used to control each character so that people get a better idea of what each amalgam would be capable of

Yeah...too lazy to do the mind/body stuff right now. I'll get to it soon though. This thread, at this point, is more to increase awareness for the tourney than anything, so that more people will vote.

And initially, I was going to have my Loki-run character just jump into the Destroyer (it can hold more than one person) and become the dominant persona (because Loki's controlled the Destroyer before), but if you had picked Thor like you did for round 3 that would've negated that strategy...it was a good strategy while it lasted though.

doesn't matter though...... i prefer it now that you lot have a slight chance against me, rather than me just annihilating you all

Teams...only one of the three in the amalgam can be the mind and/or body. Powers from all three are used, but the mind controlling them might not be completely used to the others' powers. For example, KVD has Manhunter and Mordred the Mystic. If Manhunter controls the mind, he'll be sweet with telepathy, but wouldn't be too proficient with Mordred's magic. It adds an extra layer of strategy to the tourney.

Popular opinion before the picks was that Khell and Scoob were the favorites. They have strong teams, no doubt, but honestly I'd wager that someone new will come out on top. Scoob and Khell will be walking targets, and no one's team matches up well against everybody else's team...they all have at least one or two weaknesses (mine included, even though I'm happy with my picks, though I wouldn't tell any of my weaknesses...hehe).

But again, remember to vote (intelligently, of course) once the tournament starts (which should be in the next few days).

Im going with some predictions in this Contest and it looks like Khellendros, Scoobless, Nataku, and Digi will be in the semifinals with Scoobless and Nataku advancing to the finals, but be careful with Sentry and K Von Doom their characters look like the Wildcards in this one... but im going with expierance in this contest cuz its gonna take alot of knowledge and stragedy to cut through the field thus the Last Man Standing after a hard long Final in my opinion will be Flash Thordon (Scoobless)... No offense to anyone else i think all teams look great and im sure all of you are knowlegable of your own characters, i mean you guys would crush me if i was in this, but im just giving my prediction.

I agree first and foremost Manhunter is a telepath, but he does have other attributed and powers.

Who might be some good "voters" if we ended up going to the 5-9 unbiased voters format?? Nimbus006 has already kindly volunteered (the fact that we're both in MI6 wouldn't play a factor in his decisions).

It's probably unlikely that this format would be used, but if we brainstorm some possible people to contact, maybe it would seem more likely...

ill vote......im not partucularly biased toward anyone here......but if u guys did something like that.....you should send links of ur people for the voters...because they might not have actually read them or even cared for the tournament.....just a thought.....

I think that the majority of forum users are non-biased and generally intelligent voters. I'm pretty sure (partially due to this thread, but other reasons as well) that this tourney is more widely known on the forum than the last one, and a bunch of people would be willing to vote. I honestly think just having an "open vote" system would work fine, and that we don't need the 5-9, but at this point just starting it would be a step forward...and Evangel picks the voting format, so she's probably decided on it already, and all of these ideas will be dropped...

Glad you offered though, Blair Wind...I'm about 99% sure it'll just be open vote, so you'll be able to vote anyway...but if the panel of voters idea ever makes its way to Evangel, nimbus and yourself are technically the first volunteers.

Supposedly, but I'm actually just as content to wait. Next week is free as hell for me, so any chance to push the starting date toward next Monday is great for me. But the brackets should be up any time now...the anticipation/apprehension is actually quite fun. I'm not scared of anyone, but there's 2-3 people I'd rather not face in Round 1, and I'm sure pretty much everyone else feels the same way.

Eh, I actually did my homework with those two, since I realize they'll be tough. They're obviously good debaters, so no one would voluntarily pick to fight them, but there's actually 1-2 others I'd avoid before them two. I doubt anyone picked deliberately against you specifically, but once all the Flash's started getting taken up, a pick or two might have been devoted to combatting them and the speed force. Not any of mine (hell, I didn't even pick most of my team, Quick Freeze did), but I've seen a couple picks that might be help fighting a flash-type.

And that's a smart tactic really, because most of us either have a Flash, or will be facing one at some point, so an anti-flash pick would be relatively safe.

Stormfront vs. Regular Storm (stormfront won't be able to attack his beloved Storm and will forfeit the match)

KVD vs. JP (he's everywhere at once apparently, so this isn't impossible).

Smart money is probably on the unofficial defending champ (from the last tourney) Scoobless...but with 10 in the field, a repeat will be tough. demigawd has honed his fighting craft with a string of build-a-team and fight me threads, Khellendros nearly took out Scoob in the last tourney (in came down to the last vote), and Quick Freeze recently chose an obscure herald as his first character which may help or hinder him.

Will it be one of these, or will a darkhorse (pun intended) emerge victorious? Post your thoughts on this, and how long you think this thread will last before it's shut down by the moderators...

It's something like 8-5 in Nataku's favor. There's 3-4 tourney members left to vote, and anyone else who wants to jump in, but Nat's lead would be pretty hard to overtake at this point.

Well forget what I said...I accidentally counted Nataku's vote (the participants aren't voting), and a vote was switched. Latest count is 7-6, still in Nataku's favor though.

A interesting factoid:

It's easy to see this forum has somewhat of a Marvel bias. Just look at the list of threads most of the time and it's obvious more Marvel comics are read collectively by members than DC. But our draft picks reflect this too...

Yeah, if she hasn't closed it then I would assume it's open for voting but Evangel initially stated that voting on your battle would be until Sunday night, so I figured she would've closed it by now.

after i had finalised my team.... 2 Marvel & 1 DC ..... i found out about the mind rule..... that whoevers mind is in control only has his/her own experience...... i think people would have been better with three characters who are familiar with each others powers

in the current fight Nataku has Surfer, Hulk and Damage, with Surfer's mind he knows all about Hulk... but loses out slightly on Damage
Stormfront, on the other hand, has all three characters from different realities.... i think this is be a big hindrance

Well, I'm the only other person representing 3 different realities (Marvel, DC, Wildstorm) but I think I'm ok. Loki won't have nearly as much to learn as Zatanna had to in the recent fight.

but he can still be hurt and knocked out

Adam Destine would have been a better pick than immortal. He knows how to fight and is immune to everything. But since he's totally indestructible even against mind assaults, he probably would have been disqualified.

Absorbing Man's powers may be very tough to deal with...... but i'm not going to post any stratagies or anything that may help/hinder either of you

Considering how far off I was about the last match in terms of how it would play out, I won't guess anymore about who has a better chance. I'm interested to see what longpig does with his Flash, though, and also how Sentry counters it. Obviously, I'll be doing the same soon (against SS) so I might be taking notes.

Is Ultron better than Nimrod Scoob?? Don't know a whole lot about him. There were a bunch like that, though, that were high on my "draft board", especially once I was thinking about replacing Quick Freeze's initial picks...Genis, Manhunter, Plastic Man (hehe), and a couple others I can't remember were all people I considered. I would've taken Genis too at some point, but KVD got him first.

Khell mentioned he wished he had known about Shaggy Man...that would've made a helluva pick too.

I wasn't really worried about the Flash. I was worried about Strange, since it's his mind that I have to deal with he won't be able to use the speedforce at it's full potential vice versa for my nega bands. But I will rely on them a lot, using a mystics mind. . Absorbing Man I'm not worried about. Flash I'm semi-worried about.

Ha! I was going to trade Zod for Super Skrull but figured he'd be banned because he's sort of an amalgam already.

And Shaggy Man is basically a brute type, but he is a "synthetic" organism rather than an organic one, and can somehow manage to heal amazingly fast by converting regular air (or something) into himself. He's also uber-strong and stuff...he's handed the JLA their ass a few times, and is in a recent thread beating the hell out of the Fantastic Four (no prep).
