I've been stuck in a rut for a long time. I can't seem to get out of my rut to read new authors. I've been reading Terry Brooks, R.A. Salvatore, Irene Radford, Ed Greenwood, Elaine Cunningham...
The last time I tried to read something new, I got hit with a terrible book. I need some good suggestions for some new authors to try out. I know there are tons of great authors out there. Also, I would love it if you could explain why you like the author you listed. That way I could make my decisions based on more than just your opinion.
All suggestions are welcome. Oh and I put Science Fiction in the title because the two seem to go hand in hand, though I usually read from the fantasy section.
Dreampanther
Terry Goodkind - Sword of Truth series, especially the first three
Robert Jordan - Wheel of Time series, though I got bored after book 7
Peter F Hamilton - Naked God trilogy
Vernor Vinge - Absolutely anything
Neil Gaiman - Everything, especially Sandman series
Roger Zelazny - Anything, especially Amber series
David Gemmell - This man is the best living British author of fantasy. I kid you not. I have read almost everything he has written to pieces
David Eddings - All his series
Orson Scott Card - Ender series and Alvin Maker
Stephen King - Dark Tower series
Frank Herbert - Dune series
Stephen Donaldson - Thomas Covenant series
Terry Prattchett - Duh!

Tolkien huh? I think everyone has heard of him. I didn't quite like his books though. I mean good stories, too much description...too long winded. *shrug* The movies are great!! I love them lots!
I was almost offened when you asked if I heard of Tolkien..*sulks*
