Krona is an Oan, he went back in time to attempt to attempt to unravel the secrets of creation. He saw a giant hand and energy was released. Some think evil into DCU Krona absorbed some of this power. Krona has never been portrayed as as powerful as in JLA/Avengers. He was usually about Thanos power level, that said the whole Oan race, The DCU equivalent to the elders were scared of him. Hope that helps
