Seeing how ali vs lee brought up a heated debate, who would you guys consider the best fighter ever! Now for all you movie buffs, this is not the greatest action star ever.I'm talking Vale tudo nhb tournement stuff.

the greatest fighter is probably some guy who died on a battle field a long time ago. Or some monk high up in a mountain somewhere.

personally i would say that the archangel Gabriel is the best fighter.

Probably a Gladiator or Pancrase Champion, pound for pound, from the ancient world as it was not a game or sport or even art to these guys. It was life and death.

platinum?

i prefer white gold studded in diamonds myself.

Bardock42
Prob ably some Wing Tsun fighter , Yip ;an or someone, maybe some other Chinese Kung Fu master......or someone totally unknown from ancient times.

KharmaDog
My pick...

Leonidas or some other Spartan of the 300 that faced a couple of hundred thousand Persians at Thermopylae and lasted for a week. Though they fought with Corinthian, Athenian and a few other allies in the last few days the allies left to shore up greece's defences.

The last few days it was only the spartans, they ended up using broken swords and their hands and teeth in the final hours. It is estimated that they killed anywheres from ten to twenty thousand (some estimate more but I can't see it) enemy soldiers.

I am sure that any of these 300 would wipe the floor with any current UFC fighter, boxer or movie martial arts star.

On their terms yes. However, under ufc rules with no weapons I say not

The question was "Greatest fighter ever".

Spartans recieved greco roman wrestling training from the age of seven. They were also taught hand to hand combat in case they ever lost their weapons. In truth they were the first Utlimate Fighters or mma fighters. They boxed (bare knuckled) and as mentioned before wrestled. They would never submit, and never retreat. I love NHB tournament stuff, but pound for pound I'd give it to a spartan any day of the week.

Aka he was dipped into this mixture to make him invincable, and they held onto him by the backs of his ankles, which ended up not getting touched by the liquid.

so the backs of his ankles became his weak spot. He got a spear through the back of his ankle and he died. This is where we get the term "archilles heel" from

Fishy
He was real, and so great that he became a myth...

Thats saying a lot for him... He really was a great fighter.

I seriously doubt that any modern fighter could any one of them out... Those guys are great fighters in and out of war. They were fearless more then willing to die if it was needed and would do whatever they could to win. I would rather face any modern fighter in a one on one fight to the death then even one of those guys

mr.smiley
I think I would too.I've herd people where stronger back then, but I dont think we have like any win lose draw records for any of them do we?

Fishy
No lose meant death, victory meant living for another day to fight again

mr.smiley
I definetly think they where tough, but I still think todays fighters could take out a good deal of them within ufc rules

Fishy
With rules sure, but those guys didn't fight with rules... They threw themselves into a fight gave it everything they had, had amazing discipline and courage. They were incredibly powerful trained from birth and fought impossible odds at several occasions and survived. There is a reason for them being so legendaric.

mr.smiley
I agree with for the most part. However, most the time legend is born from myth.

jinzin

this is completely pointless its like comparing apples to oranges to spaghetti....

you will never get a consensus, or even a close agreement on who it is, mostly cause, as we saw in the bruce lee vs. Ali thread, not many people know what thier talking about.

however in my opinion Its Muhammad Ali, and Chuck Norris.

now before you all go "chuck norris" "he obviously doesn't know what hes talking about" go and do a little research on him.... wink

here, read a little of this....

http://www.chucknorris.com/html/biog.html

as well he was a green beret in the US army and fought in the korean war...

so, hes a martial arts expert of a status that no one has ever achieved, as well as a weapon specialist and a grand master....

Both Bruce and Chuck were great fighters but they were both very small by modern standards. If we go pound for pound people like Azuma Nelson are as great as great gets in the modern world. Joe Louis would have to be in their.
I still believe though that a Greek pancration fighter from 2500 BC would defeat a modern fighter in no holds barred with few rules, pound for pound. A roman gladiator, medieval knight or samurai with weapons. Its really an impossible question to answer anomaly and you statement that no consensus can be reached is very sensible. big grin

yes this is correct, Norris did beat him...Obviously

yes....

horrible show.

but takes away none of Norris's achievements.

William Wallace.

The man is a legend. 6'7", solid as a brick water closet. In medieval Scotland you had to be born into power. The only reason Wallace commanded was cos he was hard as coffin nails. Maybe also because he'd killed a staggering number of Englishmen.

I don't go for this pound-for-pound stuff. There can be only one greatest fighter ever, and he'd kick the crap out of a short-arse.

Wallace was betrayed by a family member whom the English had bribed. He still managed to kill 5 of the 10 fully armed soldiers with his bare hands.

He was found guilty of high treason, against a king he'd never sworn allegence to, in a show-trial before being hung, drawn and quartered.

For those that don't know the process of his death was long and drawn out over hours, a day long "spectacle."

First he was tied to a cross and dragged for miles face down along the streets of London to the specially constructed gallows and "arena." Once there, Wallace was barely recognisable, his front a bloody mess.

He was then hung till unconscious.

He was then revived and was disembowelled and slowly had each of his internal organs removed.

Only then was he beheaded.

His body was then cut into 4 pieces and sent to Newcastle, Perth, Stirling and Berwick. His head was spiked and displayed on London bridge.

The baying crowds lapped up this barbaric, dispicable and truly horrific massacre.

The English people were so scared of him they went to these extreme lengths.

Now I'm pissed off, as it happened, so was Scotland. Enter King Robert the Bruce.

whirlysplat
Yup it was always a good idea in those days to go along with King. Don't
be pissed off it was long ago.

Bas in his prime might quiet of possibly been the best.Tito turned into a ***** however.

KharmaDog
Tito Ortiz is a joke

kyllacam
i agree tito ortiz is a joke and yes i seroisly do think that ali waz tha best no one can beat THE GREATEST and even to this day he is still considered the Greatest and for all of those that think that ali would lose to tyson yall are Very very ignorant about boxing and yes u pick a fighter and i guarentee that ali would have made fast work of him and i promise that no one of ur fighters can even fuk with ali except for maybe lee and bruce lee still would have lost but lee would have hit him and i bet my charecter on def jam is better then urs lol laughing out loud

mr.smiley
I disagree.Ali couldn't finish off Inoki.Their's no way he would take out a good fighter today.

Even though i'm not a fan of Tito I still have to give him credit. The man wasn't taken down for two years straight.

I believe that was because he picked his fights. There are some guys who face all challengers, other guys fight who they think they have a good chance to beat. I believe that Ortiz is one of those fighters.

He has great skill, technnique and strength, but he lacks balls, honour and class. Ortiz is afraid of losing, afraid of getting beaten, not because he is physically afraid, but because of his ego. That's why I think he's a joke.

True.I agree with you.
