I've started wondering, why is so much good music coming from the british isles? I found that most of the latest CD's I've bought lately are british. latest one is The Streets- Original Pirate Material, that's brilliant.

mechmoggy
Jeepers Mah, I agree that we supply a lot of quality music but that CD you've bought is pants! (IMO)

Go buy a Charlatans or a Stone Roses album, thats Brit music at its very best. smokin'

mah
nono, Mike Skinners music is pure genius!smile

mechmoggy
Frank Skinners comedy is better. stick out tongue

mah
is that that guy in Baddiel & Skinner unplanned?

mechmoggy
The very same.

A true hero of mine.

Raz
Yeah, the streets are good. Only heard their 'Lets Push Things Forward' song - its very diffrent to what I've heard before.

Texas
Never heard of said bands confused

finti
well if you took out the cotton of your ear you would

Dim
We don't have cotton in our ear...we're just STATESIDE..we don't need you mamby pamby bands stick out tongue

Texas

We've had enough of BB Mac and the Spice Girls!!! stick out tongue

LanceWindu

Ushgarak
Oooh, got your finger right on the pulse of things there...

finti
cotton balls in your ear

mechmoggy
If us Europeans were to generalize then we could say that all American stuff is either rap (the "C" is silent), heavy rock or country. Cus thats all the yank stuff we get to hear.

I'm not defending our piss-poor pop thats seems to have found it's way over to you guys but you lot don't really get the chance to hear all the stuff that comes out over here. If you like Oasis style indie music then you've only heard about 1% of the great stuf thats released over here.

Go buy one of the following bands albums and tell me if I'm wrong, I'll even go out and purchase one of your suggestions that I may not have otherwise bought to make things fair.....

Joy Division
The Happy Mondays
Ocean Colour Scene
Leftfield
The Charlatans
Supergrass
Paul Weller
The Jam
Massive Attack
Depeche Mode
Mansun
Portishead
Travis
Manic Street Preachers
Ian Brown
The Seahorses
The Smiths
The Stereophonics
The Stone Roses
Kula Shaker
Super Furry Animals

I can't think of any more right now but any of these will bring balance to your record collection.

Dim
laughing out loud
Hehehe..comments must have gotten under someone's skin. Truth be told there's alot of good stuff out there but I couldn't tell you if it's American, British, Australian (though doubtful, seems they only claim Kylie Miqonque) ..or whatever. To be honest I can't even name off bands I like..I know them only by their songs and can only remember their names while I'm actually listening to their music.

mechmoggy
I've got a feeling Texas and Finti may have an imput into this thread. Tex with weird she-devil music and Finti with 80's pap. roll eyes (sarcastic)

finti
oh man Mech that was a lot of overrated bands there, hardly any rock bands

mechmoggy
I wouldn't call any of those overated, except maybe the Smiths, but then they were recently voted the most influential band in history. I like Rock Finti, but its a little boring at the moment and needs an injection of youth to make it cool again. I bought the Linkin Park CD when it came out and still think thats really good but there has been quite a few copycats of that already which makes me think its all boring again.

At the moment I'm listening to The White Stripes and the Strokes mostly but I think both of those will be playing second fiddle when I finally get hold of some Cooper Temple Clause stuff. They sound like Oasis when Oasis were at thier best. smokin'

mah
that's a good list there mech

finti
What about Radiohead. They are pretty in inflewntial. The Smiths voted the most influential band in history. That is a laugh maybe for the indie scene not for the rest

tryui
The best british singer ever is Gina G.

mah
eh....

finti

mah
I never said the people here were sanesmile

finti

Gundark
Sting.

mechmoggy
Yeah, I forgot Radiohead. I've got all the ablums except the last, which was a little too "out there" for my liking.

I'm afraid to say Stings music is hardly ground breaking Gundy, the guitar riffs and melodies he used for the Police stuff were dead simple, catchy stuff though, but his new stuff I don't like at all.

I can't believe somebody mentioned a Eurovision song contest loser in a thread about good music! roll eyes (sarcastic) What is Gina G up to these days?

Exactly.

Texas
Sting's from the UK right?
Yup, there you have it, another crap performer from the UK! stick out tongue evil face

mechmoggy
Mmmmmm, and tell me Tex what great musical genius's (or is it genuii for plural) has Texas given the world of good music?

Texas
The Spice Girls sure as hell didn't come out Texas, that's for sure!!!

GIRL POWER!!!!
roll eyes (sarcastic) stick out tongue roll eyes (sarcastic)

Found this interesting article about no British hits in America
http://slate.msn.com/?id=2065252

finti

Texas
Birmingham Alabama? wink

Ushgarak
Yikes, Gina G... shot in the paddock, with any luck.

finti
hmm Gina G doesnt deserve to be mentioned around any thing regarding music, she can go back to host radio shows

mechmoggy
Yay, big up the Birmingham massive! smokin'

finti
