Movie directors in the 1930's and 1940's would use an alias when they did not want their name associated with a film they directed, does anybody know the name they used?

Clovie

Directors were under contract to studios back then, sometimes they would have to direct a film in which they did not have the control over the final product or as much control as they would like to have. When they were embarrassed to have their names associated with the film, because it did not represent their idea of what it should be they used an alias. This name was the same name used by several directors when they do not want their real names under "Directed By". Where else should I post this question? Also nice photo, Clovie. Where exactly is "little broken world", I mean besides between your ears?

Alan/Adam Smithee was one name used a lot for an alias.

Robert Totten was one of the first directors to use the alias.

No need for that.
