I've been jamming alot of alternative lately, just curious as to who everyone else likes from the bands I mentioned.
Cinemaddiction
U2, hands down. The Cure had a few good songs, two great albums (Kiss Me x 3, Pornograffiti)..U2..timeless.
Deathblow
That's a very strong list, great stuff. I like J&MC, The Cure and pre-90's U2, and I love Joy Division, Sonic Youth and My Bloody Valentine. But very few things in life can beat Pixies, and none of those bands are one of those few things.
Pixies all the way.
Imaginary
U2 is the only band I've heard more than one song from... I'm listening to them right now.
Ken Kenobi
I have to go with The Cure.
long pig
Put anything up against the Pixies and they will win.
No nirvana on there? How come?
MildPossession
I like songs by every band up there except The Smiths, their music does nothing for me.
jaden101
then you are truly a souless servant of the devil
KharmaDog
I love the Pixies. The Smiths, REM and The Cure were all good. But U2 has stood the test of time, have written some great songs and have really influenced music, I gotta go with U2. Unforgettable fire is also one of my favourite albums ever.
jaden101
great album...i cant never understand why more people prefered the joshua tree
RagnaViper
Yeah, I'm gonna have to go with the Pixies on this one.
Victor Von Doom
Very tough choice between The Pixies, The Cure and The Smiths.
The Velvet Underground possibly produced the best album of all those bands but they aren't/weren't consistent throughout.
U2 and REM are ok. Both overrated to hell though.
Went for The Cure.
Korri
Oh definately a tie between TVU and The Pixies.
Ladyluck
why no nirvana?
my vote's for them
Df02
The Smiths and Sonic Youth
StinkFist462
Cure, Joy Division, Pixies
sweetness
Pixies and the smiths both excellent
Morgoths_Wrath
The Cure sure has alot more votes then I expected...
not to say that they don't deserve them I guess, I just think there's alot better bands on the list. That's just my opinion though.
ElectricBugaloo
Sonic Youth or Pixies...they are head and shoulders ahead of any other band on that list.

Have you been awake for the last 15 years?
Alpha Centauri
The Cure for me. Honourable mention to a lot of the other bands.
Also, why are people saying U2 withstood the test of time? The Cure aren't exactly best international newcomer are they?
The Cure put out an album in 2004, sounding way better than most bands probably could after so long. If you put that up against How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb I'm pretty sure The Cure would take it.

I said that U2 have stood the test of time, well, because they have. They have been together since the late 70's/early 80's and that whole time they have been producing music. I like the Cure, but their musical output has not been as prolific nor have their musical arrangements been terribly varied (although I admit to not having heard the last album).
U2 have been a critical and economic success for over 20 years. They have changed their sound and evolved quite abit during that time. They have influenced quite a few bands and blurred the line between popular music and alternative music.
I am not the leader of the U2 fan club by any means, but I think saying that they are a band that have withstood the test of time is not a statement that is too off.
Alpha Centauri
The Cure have influenced "a few" bands in their time too.
They've withstood the test of time, I agree. I'm just saying I don't understand why people say that as if it's why they vote for them, only to ignore The Cure who have, quite arguably put out the better material at their very best.

Indeed.

I wasn't aware that anyone said that as if that was their sole reason for voting for them. Whether the cure has put out better material is debatable. In my opinion nothing that the cure has put out has ever eclipses "the Unforgetable Fire".
el_barto
I voted for U2, they are the best band on that list in my opinion.
Pezmerga
My Vote went to The Cure.

exanda kane
U2 and REM? I wouldn't say there alternative at all... Where's Bloc Party? Where's The Strokes?
Darth Jello
Robert Smith's Fender VI is one of the most far out instruments ever.
LizzyT123
My vote was for Velvet Underground. Don't care if you don't like them.
Bardock42
The Smiths. My favorite band actually. Although I need to listen to more of the bands, since I don't know all of them.
Roulette
U2 and The Cure
