At any moment we can find ourselves shifting from one state of mind and body to another. Example: Say you are having a fine day. At this time you are in a certain state of mind and body, if someone where to hurt you, your state of mind and body would change. Following is a list of Buddhist terms that describe “the ten worlds” or the ten states of mind and body:

1. Hell = Painful suffering, depression or grief.

2. Hunger = Domination by desire or craving, both physical and mental.

3. Animality = The 'law of the jungle'. Acting instinctively, Fear of the strong and oppression of the weak.

4. Anger = Aggressiveness, having conflict with others; selfishness and ego.

5. Humanity, or Tranquility = At peace; a time for rest or passiveness.

6. Rapture, or Heaven = Gratification; desire achieved.

7. Learning = Learning about life and oneself from others and from existing knowledge.

8. Realisation = The wisdom or insight where we gain an understanding of an aspect of life from our own observations and experiences.

9. Bodhisattva = Devotion to the happiness of others.

10. Buddha = Awareness to the true nature of life; absolute happiness, wisdom, courage, compassion, creativity and life force.

What do you think?

Take a closer look at the list... 9 and 10 are very difficult to attain. Jesus was a 9 and 10.

OK...I'm not god yet, but do try to see things from a whole view.. I look beyond the words and actions of others to see what caused the difference, and it is our course and how we deal with it... and our experiences... we all seemed to start out the same...just like most... But have different experiences...and tragedies.... just like many of them. we .are the same all the same, all all have the same opportunities on how to live this inner and outer live...mostly inner though .....So, maybe an 7/8 would be more appropriate..Not perfect yet? Definably not a 2-4....sorry to say...I've been there. Did enjoy 6 though....still do.

You might be surprised to know that Hell was my home turf form many years. I've only in the last couple years learned how to get out and stay out. Most people will be in the first 6 worlds bouncing from one to the next hundreds of time in a day.

True, but 6 and 7 are also astonishing achievements to accomplish.

A state that really sucks is 2, its often leads me to 4 when I´m weak, and makes my life a 1 !!! But sometimes I have some instantaneous insights that take me to 5, its a shame that they are so instantaneous, vacation, and weekends help me to achieve this particular state. A state that I really need is 6, I rarely have it in my life, and by achieving it, I hope to be free of 2, and be free to reach out higher states like 9 and 10. A state that I have plenty of, and I reach easily is 7, and I´m learning how to open my mind to obtain 8 more times. Ooooo... so many numbers.
Anyway, Buddhism is great ! If I dedicate myself to one religion it will be Buddhism !

lol

Different branches of Buddhism take on the levels of worlds in a different way. Some branches take worlds literaly while others take it as state of mind as opposed to state of being.

Buddhism is the true religion of peace (although it is more of a philosophy rather than religion)

I think most people don't realize that, but that's OK. I'm just trying to introduce some Buddhist philosophy. Tell us what you know.

I am a Nichiren Buddhist, we believe the ten worlds to be a state of mind and body, and that there is only on vehicle not three.
