So... I don't think it's anyone's buissiness how old I am in comparasin to what I read. I go to violent, bloody movies. Noone stops me (I'm young, by the way, young is what I am.), so why shoul you take the comics out of my hands? Unless you're banning all of the internet stuff, tv shows, movies, videos, dvds, games, etc... it's a stupid thing to ban comics. A whole generation of people, possibly good people, grew up reading these same adventures, are you implying that they're not good people in saying that these books are having negative affects? That's what I'm getting! And also, I'm getting that we only read these books for the blood and guts. PLEASE!!!! Take away the speech/thought/story bubbles/boxes then. Take out the kissing/talking scenes!
It's true, there may be more worthwhile activities then reading about Bats, but think about it. What's the best way to get a kid interested in reading? Cause don' forget: That's what comic books are!!!!! I read the adventures of Batman, which entail some bloddyfight scenes. Shall I maby... change the page after reading what this one has to offer? I think I will!! Cuz that's what the book is for. A comic is just a normal book but shorter and with drawings. Don't I imagine the blood in ... Lord of the Rings anyway? So why stop me seeing these things. Of course, I'm not trying to say that the pictures aren't nice to look at, they are good visuel supplements. They really help me to understand what I'm reading.

Thats a good point, the Bible is overlooked in so many areas nowadays. Everyone is looking for a way to feel good and leave some good impression of themselves on this world. They look for it in drink, sex, drugs, violence, Movie stars, and various new age products but they dont think to look at the word of God.......................

Why should i have to read bullshit just because the plausible force of action is to violent?

No easy answer to this...but if the focus were taken away from the children and placed on informing the parents, I think it would be much safer. Given the proper guidance, any child can be steered to a healthy lifestyle regardless of media influences. It is those who are neglected, or parents who do not take an interest in their children's interests who become the anti-social, possibly violent ones. If I have children I'm going to let them read comics as teenagers if they want to, but I'll make sure they realize which world is reality and which isn't. We don't need to be afraid of the violent comics, or violent media in general...we just need to be informed and prepared.

That, and I'll hold off giving them my Authority collection until they're at least 18. Embracing diversity is an important virtue for anyone, but exposing younger children to addicts, people who enjoy killing, etc. could be detrimental.

if my kids want my comic collection they'll have to become graverobbers

The United States has done a very good job of not teaching it's young the lessons it should. The sixties and seventies were a cluster **** of social and political insurgencies, yet no one thought to teach their children the valuable lessons learned in Vietnam, at Kent State, at the Bay of Pigs, etc.

What were the lessons plainly ignored? "Relax." After so much violence, one would think that conflagrations could be curbed and avoided. But no, like clockwork, every ten years or so another "police action", another "war", starts up. It's sickening. If Tipper Gore, the ESRB, the Comics Code Authority and MPA want to cover the eyes and ears of children in the United States, good for them. I'm glad they can feel so righteous while fostering ignorance. Heaven forbid we see blood or a set of breasts. Heaven forbid we unlawfully invade another sovereign country on outrageous claims, and refuse to leave long after our presence has become more a hindrance than a help. Quick, call the U.N., we've got dangerous comics! Be sure to prewrite a resolution first, wouldn't want to give them equal say!

Scoobless
not trying to offend anyone, but over here (UK) it's been shown that polls taken in America, that a large percentage of the Americans believe America is at war with Iraq because Sadam Hussain is part of Al Quieda (spell?)

whirlysplat
S H has nothing to do with Al Q, its sad how thick brits are.

ScarletSpider
I think you misunderstood, Scoobless stated that it's been shown, in Britain, that Americans think Hussein is part of the Al Queda. It's damn sad.

whirlysplat
Got it and your both rightsmile

DigiMark007
Er, we're not all that dumb. It's common knowledge, even here, that Saddam was in cahoots with Michael Jackson and the Church of Scientology. Luckily, the ring of corruption has been exposed.

-DM cool

you exposed Michael Jacksons ring?.... what are you ?.... twelve years old?

eek!

lol hey, don't diss michael! I don't give a shit what he did or didn't do, cuz smooth criminal, beat it, don't stop till you get enough, billy jean, and thriller never did anything wrong, unless being AMAZING SONGS is a feleny... in which case someone should confiscate all Marvin Gaye hits....
All aside the point... You can't stop kids reading comix without having to stop all video games, movies, online games, online fiction, videos, bibles (good point, scoob big grin), so on. And if they do that, America will take siege!!!!!! Serisously... lol and, asI said earlyier... actually, just go back and read my first post, im not gonne repeat myself like this... noon ever listens to me... I hate you all... I hate my life... o GOD!!!! aaaagggggghhhhh!!! lol

Lord-of-Dreams
I don't use it much for a reason... mate. I scan my posts after writing them to make sure they're legible. My comp. is far too slow for me to SC each post. I do use it if it's not easy enough to read though.

whirlysplat
Only kidding mate relaxsmile

Lord-of-Dreams
Don't worry, old man, I'm cool.
Anyways, what if they put stickers on the covers of each comic- like they do with videogames and cds? I mean, I know a lot of little kids who buy comics with their folks, so daddy would at least know that there's somefink bad (hehe, you know what I mean... lol) in his kid's hands? Thst's how they work it in the gaming bussiness, and it seems to work... a little bit... lol actually it does work pretty well. lol

Spiderkid515
thats messed up i mean im only 13 n i love reading the violent stuff and since it mostly guys readin comics thats wut they like best the violence

I think its understanding, not age. One of my younger cousin picks up some of that japanese comics that I have, and just looks at breast pics and stuff.

But, at the same time, comics have gone to extremes to get sales.

CorderaMitchell
Good point there...

Lord-of-Dreams
Wow... amazing... Man, Spideykid, do you even realize that you're just supplementing the Man's point? You are saying that kids only read the stuff for violence and sexual crap (I don't really understand what' so sexy about a drawing of boobs... I always thought that was trhe point of Comic-Films, to show the world those huge titters lol). But that's really not true. My cousin reads Wolverine comics, and he's eight. Real smart kid. Now, He isn't from around where I'm from and so he doesn't relly know much about violence or anything. He doesn't really even notice it. The diologues can be good (but It's Wolverine so... ) and the stories are fun. That's why he reads it.
But, I think that I can't really say what I've been saying without first saying: It's very true that a lot of today's comics are crammed with bloody, pointless fights, and huge boobs, half neked chicks, and the like. It's become a means of selling the books to idiots- about 80% of the market. lol So I think that Marvel/DC/Image/... the smaller people... should have a tighter bunch of people up top looking at the material and giving it the thumbs up or down. I mean God! Just hide your damn playboys in a box in the attic like the rest of us...

CorderaMitchell
Yes, its to sell, and they know people like it...

ayjay

Why do you peopl hate the Bible so much, >>???
BTW, the comic ban idea cannot be applied and go well, cuz everyone will just sneak in and buy comics !!
I'm only 15, a devout Christian, but I read Wolverine, I just use it to entertain me, but I have no will of applying the comics into real life,
