I got a book called "The Best American Sports Writing", from 2004. It has, as you might expect, the best American sportswriting of the year. One article that I'd read when it first came out in Bicycling magazine was called The Race of Truth.

It's about Graeme Obree, a rider who went after The Hour Record (going as fast as you can for an hour on a bike) I recommend you read it, even if it is a bit long.

It's not just about bike racing, it examine's Obree's mental problems, how the bicycling establishment tried to basically make him go away.
